Now We Have Seen It All!

Ashley Dupre, the woman who brought Client Number 9 down, is getting her own reality tv show.  According to E ! Online:

E! News has learned exclusively that the former high-priced prostitute at the center of the Eliot Spitzer scandal is developing a cable reality series and is considering moving from New York to Los Angeles.

(snip)

A source tells E!, however, that Dupré, 23, has been developing an unscripted show with production execs at L.A.-based Handprint Entertainment, the same company that has managed the career of reality icon Nicole Richie and Pamela Anderson.

One of the concepts being considered is a dating format.

“They’re talking to MTV about Ashley being the next Tila Tequila,” says a source close to the project. (Handprint execs couldn’t be reached for comment on the project; MTV declined comment).

What ever happened to shame?

Finally, Something John McCain And I Agree On!

I don’t want to sound like one of those self loathing types who hates America, but at last I found something I am in 100% in agreement with John McCain on.  This clip is only 19 seconds and worth the watch.

Liberal Democrat to Endorse Two Liberal Democrats For State Senate

It has been said that one of the most dangerous places to be in Washington, DC is between liberal Senator Chuck Schumer and an television camera.  Well Senator Schumer will be in Rochester Monday to endorse millionaire, elitist Democratic Senate candidates RICHard Dollinger and David Nachbar. I hope RICHard and Nachbar don’t get in the way.

As Occam pointed out a couple of days ago, all three will undoubtedly insult the intelligence of anyone with a brain.  As Occam pointed out:

Yes.  When we think about out-of-control property taxes and the business climate in Western New York, we yearn for the leadership of Senate Minority Leader Malcolm Smith. (If the democrats take control of the Senate, he becomes the Majority Leader).  He seems like just the guy to turn the ship around.

Having two of the three men in a room negotiating state issue from Manhattan and the other one from Queens is just the thing to fix the woes of New York State.  I hope the local media ignores this non-event.  If they do cover it, I hope someone asks them how electing a Democrat majority is good for Rochester.

Someone Ought To Ask Dollinger And Nachbar About This

The New York Post had an interesting article this weekend concerning the possible consequences of a Democratic takeover of the state Senate. According to Fred Dicker:

Top Democratic and Republican strategists told The Post that a Democratic Senate victory would, in fact, trigger one of the fiercest political fights ever and produce a sustained period of even more than the usual Albany chaos.

The main reason is that after 44 years of being out of power, Senate Democrats don’t have the knowledge, skill or talent to be an effective majority. And many Democrats - including some close to Gov. Paterson - agree.

Senate Democrats are also so liberal and so disproportionately from New York City that some of Paterson’s aides fear a Democratic majority will refuse to join the governor in his effort to cut state spending, cap skyrocketing property taxes and improve the state’s harsh business climate.

Someone ought to ask the guy who wants to be a judge, and the guy who needs a job (Nachbar), why people in Monroe County should vote for them.

Say It Ain’t So Joe — Majority Leader Bruno Announces Retirement

It really shouldn’t come as a surprise, but upstate New York’s best friend over the past few years, Senate Majority leader Joe Bruno announced he will not seek re-election this year, ending a 32 year career in elected office.

Here’s Senator Bruno’s statement:

“Today I met with my Republican colleagues in the Senate and informed them that I will not be running for re-election this November.”

“After 32 years in office, I have decided that it is time to move on with my life and to give my constituents an opportunity for new representation and my colleagues in the Senate who have supported me an opportunity for new leadership.”

“Public service has been a blessing for which I will be ever grateful. I have had the opportunity to work for and with hundreds of proud, distinguished New Yorkers. I have viewed my work not as a job but as a privilege to come here day in and day out and stand up for the people of Rensselaer and Saratoga counties and stand up for hardworking people I have come to know through the years.”

“Politics is a tough ball game. Tougher now than it has ever been. But after 32 years of many successes and a few failures, I know now more than ever, and I can say that with comfort and confidence, there is no calling greater than that of public service. There have been few more rewarding experiences in my life. But, timing in life is everything. While there may never be a good time to make these kinds of life decisions, I have decided that it is time for me to move on with my life.”

“I do so with a heavy heart, but an optimistic soul, and I will rest peaceful in the knowledge that so many great things lie ahead for the great state that I have had the honor and privilege to serve.”

If you want to see something funny, take a look at what the liberals have to say about Bruno’s retirement.  Stlo7 has one of the dumbest lines I’ve ever seen on Bruno’s retirement and shows that anyone using their site for the analysis should be very careful:

My sources also tell me that Bruno’s staff have quietly moved on to other activities and have been replaced by folks tied to Guiliani.

What?  That’s right, in the last hours of session all of Bruno’s people have left and Guiliani’s people are involves in final negotiations.  Wow. That’s so ignorant that its scary.  People should really be careful believing what they read over there!

Anyways, back to Joe Bruno.  He’s done a lot for upstate and I’m going to miss him.  I hope when Dean Skelos is elected Majority Leader (not Rudy Guiliani) he shares Bruno’s vision for the importance of upstate.

D&C Editorial Board Goes Soft On Gantt

I should probably be congratulating the D&C Editorial board for their editorial on David Gantt, but I just can’t .  Cincinnatus pointed out in his post yesterday that he hoped the D&C didn’t try to tie Gantt’s conduct in a problem with the Albany culture:

I hope that when Jim Lawrence and his sidekick Tom Tobin write an editorial about this they keep the focus on Gantt (their hero from the Public Defender Fiasco) and don’t try to tie it in to what’s wrong with the Albany culture.  Plain and simple Gantt’s actions are highly unethical and should be characterized as such.

But they did:

The Albany political culture is suspect on many fronts, but its allegiance to special interests stands out.

Lawmakers have made some half-hearted stabs at reform over the years, but the perception of the Legislature in the state and outside is that legislators roll over for special interests on matters large and small. It’s up to individual lawmakers to correct that view, to monitor their own relationships with lobbyists and be vigilant about potential conflicts of interests.

Then they actually believed that Gantt doesn’t know who Gaddy’s clients are.  Imagine this, you are a lobbyist and have a bill that your client wants and the Chairman of the committee that the bill goes before, who has been quoted as saying you “are like a son to him”, doesn’t know who your client is.  Yea, right!

Companies left on the sidelines wondered pointedly why Gantt introduced a bill that gave Gaddy’s client a leg up, especially since Gantt in the past opposed what the bill proposes — street cameras that catch red-light violators.

Gantt says he doesn’t know any of Gaddy’s clients. He says his introduction of the bill was procedural and he hasn’t decided if he favors it.

The way out of this one is for Gantt to step aside when the bill comes up, if it ever does. And the way out for the future is for the assemblyman to know Gaddy’s clients and to establish distance early on, before problems arise.

Yea, right again.  Before a problem arises.  Isn’t it a little too late for that?  From the reports I’ve seen, the only business Robert Gaddy has are either transportation related, or something involving the City of Rochester — two areas soley under Gantt’s control.

The D&C blew it.  In the interest of fairness they needed to blast Gantt for his unethical behavior.  Treating Gantt with kid gloves doesn’t serve our community or the people he represents.

Kathy Konst Enters Race For 26th CD — I Think Jon Jon Is Going To Have A Problem

The Buffalo News reports Erie County Legislator Kathy Konst has enter the race for the Democratic nomination for the right to run in the 26th CD. According to the Buffalo news:

Surrounded by about 40 supporters waving campaign signs, the second-term Erie County legislator touted her record as the only candidate who brings both business and legislative experience to the race.

“Over the past few months,” Konst said, “I’ve watched a parade of candidates come forward, and like many of the people who contacted me, I noticed that the field lacked experience. . . . I’ve cut taxes, created laws and balanced government budgets.”

This is more bad news for Jon Powers, the former substitute teacher who uses campaign donations to pay his rent, takes money from men who exploit women, hasn’t done any mail yet, and likes to hand out Buffalo Bills schedules at veterans’ ceremonies.

Konst has experience that Jon Jon lacks:

As president of the Lancaster Area Chamber of Commerce, she said, she also has helped businesses to invest in the community, created private sector jobs and kept young people in Western New York.

I’m going to go out on a limb here.  I am predicting that Powers not only doesn’t win the primary, but he actually finishes behind Jack Davis and Konst.  We at Monroerising.com can’t wait for this primary to heat up.

Another Reason To Be Proud Of The Democrat And Chronicle

Boy, you really have to hand it to the brain trust over at the D&C.  For the second day in a row they have an article about PETA complaining about the treatment of circus animals at a show at the fairgrounds.

PETA sent a letter to the Monroe County Legislature on Monday urging it to ban the use of bull hooks and electric prods within the county.

The County Legislature does not intend to do that, according to a spokesman for the Republicanmajority. Furthermore, the county’s zoo director, Larry Sorel, said Monday that employees at Seneca Park Zoo use bull hooks to guide animals.

For two days in a row the PETA charges are denied and yet two stories.  Funny, they still haven’t been able to find the resources to read the Buffalo News story about how the hero of the public defender fiasco, David Gantt is passing bills he originally opposed for one of his favorite lobbyist, and telling the people of Rochester about it.  Nice work guys — no wonder you are losing subscriptions!

Jon Powers Accepts Tainted Money — He Should Be Ashamed of Himself!

I think the Tina Turner song Private Dancer is pretty sad.  Do you remember these lyrics?

Well the men come in these places
And the men are all the same
You don’t look at their faces
And you don’t ask their names
You don’t think of them as human
You don’t think of them at all
You keep your mind on the money
Keeping your eyes on the wall

What’s even sadder than this is that Jon Powers has accepted of $7,000 from Rick Snowden, owner of strip clubs in Buffalo and Rochester.  As we’ve said many times, this is a story the D&C hasn’t got around to yet.  According to Sunday’s Buffalo News: [Read more →]
