Its A Boy!!!

Friends, Alaskan Governor Sarah Palin is now an official Grandmother.  Yesterday, her 18 year old daughter gave birth to a 7 pound, four ounce baby boy.  He was named Tripp Easton Mitchell Johnston, and born in Palmer, Alaska.  The father is 18 year old Levi Johnston, who is an apprentice electrician and former Wasilla High School hockey player. He and Bristol have been dating for 3 years.

While one Grandmother is an Governor and former Vice Presidential nominee, the other is currently facing six felony counts of misconduct involving a controlled substance, rumored to be Oxycontin.

Palin’s Church Torched — The Work of Leftwing Hatemongers?

I thought you might want to see this video from the AP on Alaska Governor Sarah Palin’s church being set on fire.  Evidence says it was deliberately set — I’ll be real interested to see who did it.

Grace Jones said she can not stand Sarah Palin

Jamaican-born disco diva Grace Jones said she can not stand Sarah Palin.

She told German magazine TV Spielfilm Wednesday that Palin stood for a backward vision of America laden with government restrictions of sexuality and social behavior.

Jones made the following quotes to German magazine TV Spielfilm.

“I believe a woman can present herself as a sex object if she has fun doing it”.

“I would have loved it if Hillary Clinton had pulled it off”.

“I can’t stand Sarah Palin. I bet a woman like that has no sense of humor.”

Judging by our picture of Jones she obviously has a sense of humor. As with all our celebrity endorsments we do not comment whether they endorse Barack Obama or not unless they explicity say so (Woody’s rule). In this case Jones has endorsed Hillary Clinton. So therefore we advise any fans of Grace Jones to write in Hillary on their ballot.

What’s The Problem With Palin?

Sarah Palin appeared in a cameo on Saturday Night Live. It was a funny sketch, and she handled her part quite well. This despite the fact that, even with her present, Tina Fey continued her unfair (in my opinion) and unflattering (in everyone’s opinion) portrayal of the GOP Vice-Presidential nominee.

What has caused the deep and visceral negativity towards Palin among Hollywood and Washington elites?

First, on a basic level, she is simply not “sophisticated” or “experienced” in the way the elites expect a candidate for high office to be. Her manner of speech is common; she is an every-day person. Further, since she has not been an inside-the-beltway politician, she has had no reason to develop detailed positions on a number of issues that are at the forefront of the campaign.

Joe Biden is, on the other hand, quite sophisticated and experienced. After the Vice-Presidential debate, many pundits, including our D&C editorialists, lauded Biden for his broad grasp of the issues and the ease with which he spoke about them. Of course, he was dead wrong about a number of the facts that glibly issued from his lips, most notably regarding how the U.S. and France threw Hezbollah out of Southern Lebanon.

The second problem the elites have with Palin appears to be the bigger one. She is, in effect, a walking, talking, repudiation of those elites. She has succeeded without the elite establishment. She can reach the average person without going through the filter that the establishment has created. Efforts to denigrate her evaporate whenever she meets people, people who develop an instant connection to her.

McCain-Palin may well be destined for defeat this year, but I hope Sarah Palin survives and looks for a place on the national stage. If she can find a vehicle to get around the country, to develop her message and has an opportunity to touch more Americans, she will be in a prime position to ride the popular backlash against what is certain to be 4 years of an extreme leftist agenda from the Obama administration.

Sarah Palin More Than Holds Her Own

The consensus is that Sarah Palin more than held her own in last night’s vice Presidential debate.  I particularly liked the Wall Street Journal’s editorial:

Maybe John McCain should fire the advisers who won’t let Sarah Palin do more interviews. The Alaska Governor has faced two major campaign challenges — her acceptance speech and last night’s debate — and each time she’s shown herself worthy of the national stage. Let Mrs. Palin be herself, and then when she makes a mistake, as every candidate does, it won’t be treated like some epic judgment on her fitness to be Vice President.

(snip)

Mr. McCain can nonetheless thank Mrs. Palin for defending him with energy and confidence, and thus disappointing those in the media who wanted to see her fall.

Respect Diversity — Unless It Involves Religion

That appears to be the liberal mantra.  Bill Donohue, President of the Catholic League, issued this statement in response to the attacks on Sarah Palin regarding the visiting minister from Kenya, Bishop Thomas Muthee, who was doing a service at her church. He offered a prayer asking Jesus to keep her free from ‘every form of witchcraft.’

Keith Olbermann ridiculed this matter and claimed that it made Barack Obama’s pastor, Jeremiah Wright look pretty mainstream.  Here is Donohue’s statement:

“For the past two decades, Americans have been lectured by educators and the chattering class that we must respect cultural, religious, racial and ethnic diversity. It seems that exceptions to the creed of multiculturalism are only made when it suits the ideological agenda of the left. Enter Keith Olbermann: He exploited this incident last night as a club to paint Palin as an extremist. Moreover, he used this single blessing to unfavorably contrast the African minister to Barack Obama’s spiritual mentor, Rev. Jeremiah Wright. The MSNBC commentator incredibly said that Wright-who spewed hate speech before Obama for 20 years-‘seems pretty mainstream’ by comparison.

“Witchcraft is a sad reality in many parts of Africa, resulting in scores of deaths in Kenya over the past two decades. Bishop Muthee’s blessing, then, was simply a reflection of his cultural understanding of evil. While others are not obliged to accept his interpretation, all can be expected to respect it. More than that-Muthee should be hailed for asking God to shield Palin from harmful forces, however they may be manifested. And for this he is mocked and Palin ridiculed?

“We know that many cultural elites have a hard time embracing religion, but is it too much to ask that they at least show some manners when discussing subjects which most Americans hold dear?”

Well put Mr. Donohue.

Look At What The VP Nominee With All Of The Experience Said About The 1929 Crash

I’ve written about my fondness for Philbrick over at www.mustardstreet.blogspot.com many times.  In fact a few friends say I sound like a giddy school girl when I write about him.  I’ve lifted this clip form him on Joe Bidden talking about how Franklin Roosevelt handled the 1929 stock market crash when he was President.  The only problem is Roosevelt didn’t take office until 1933.

If Sarah Palin said this, the liberal whackos would be saying it is an example of her being unfit to serve.  Joe Biden says it and Philbrick is the only one I heard talk about it.  Nice work Phil — everyone else enjoy the clip:

Palin draws crowd of 60,000

Yesterday 60,000 people had shown up in Florida to see Sarah Palin. All this happened without a warm up band.

Republican vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin told wildly cheering, flag-waving, chanting supporters that John McCain is “the only great man in this race” and promised Sunday he will fix the nation’s economy if voters give the GOP four more years in the White House.

“He won’t say this, so I’ll say it for him,” the Alaska governor said in an almost confidential tone at the close of her first Florida stump speech. “There is only one man in this election who has ever really fought for you. John McCain wore the uniform of his country for 22 years — talk about tough.”

Bad News For All Of You Liberals — Palin Turning Out To Be Big Factor In McCain Surge!

The Wall Street Journal had an interesting opinion piece on the Palin factor.  The least qualified person ever to be selected as vice Presidential nominee of a major party is making a big difference in the race.  According to the WSJ piece:

While Sen. McCain’s support among Republicans inched up to 90% from 89% preconvention, his support among independents jumped to 52% from 40% at the end of August. Neither Mr. McCain nor Barack Obama had previously clocked majority support among independents in this election cycle, according to Lydia Saad of Gallup. Among what Ms. Saad calls “pure independents” — those who say they lean neither liberal nor conservative — Mr. McCain’s support nearly doubled after the convention, to 39% from 20%.

Thus the combination of the convention and the Palin pick seems to have done much more than just shore up Mr. McCain’s conservative base. It helped swing a substantial number of those precious swing voters — for now. Whether the most recent numbers stick in the coming weeks remains to be seen. Even now, some 40% of these true middle-of-the-roaders say they are undecided in the race.

Still, the bottom line is that Mr. McCain seems to have broadened his appeal to moderates and independents by his choice of running mate. No wonder, then, the all-out push by the Obama forces to paint Mrs. Palin as some sort of extremist. The bad news for Mr. Obama is that, so far, it isn’t working.

Illinois Governor Defends Sarah Palin

(Update: Governor Blagojevich is a Democrat)

Illinois’ Governor Rod Blagojevich didn’t do Barak Obama any favors.  People familiar with government know that being a legislator isn’t really all that governmental — it’s more politicial.  According to the Politico’s Ben Smith Blagojevich said as much on a Chicago radio station:

“The reality is, governors every day have to make decisions for better or for worse. That’s part of the job. It’s an executive position. And it’s a position that is like what you’re going to do when you’re president. Legislators, they do different things. They debate and they pass their bills back and forth,” he said.

“But governors make decisions, and I think it’s a tactical mistake for the Democrats to question Gov. Palin’s experience when she’s been a governor of a state,” he said. “I don’t think the size of the state is relevant. It’s the kinds of decisions you have to make as governor. They (Democrats) should focus on the issues…

Imagine that — focus on the issues that would be real CHANGE!
