I Know You Don’t Like George Bush, But How Could Anyone in the North Country Vote Democrat Next Week?

Gentle Reader:

I certainly understand the feelings that a significant number of New Yorkers have about our president, George W. Bush.  Mr. Izguhde and I have vowed to never vote for a candidate, Republican or Democrat, who hails from the Old Confederacy.

I found this interesting clip on Niagaratimes.blogspot.com.  It is a clip of Senator Kevin Parker showing his lack of knowledge about anything north of Westchester County.

He asks “what is in St. Lawrence County that terrorists would want to attack?”  Former Senator Jim Wright stands and shows Senator Parker’s ignorance.  The hydro plant that provides power for most of New York is there and probably one of the largest targets in New York.

Back to the point of President Bush.  The most recent public poll show the Democrat, Darrel Aubertine, with a slight lead in the special election.  That seat has about 30,000 more Republicans than Democrats.  Bush fatigue is the only explaination for that — unless people up there think that Governor Elliott “The Steamroller” Spitzer should have more power.

If Aubertine wins, the Democrats will be one seat away from the majority.  Guys like Senator Parker will be calling the shots in that house.  Does anone really think that is in the best interest for anyone living outside of the City?

Big Stakes in Northern NY Next Week — Special Election for Senate– Important For All of Us

Anyone who cares about upstate New York understands why it’s so important that the state Senate stay in Republican hands.  We already pay the highest taxes in the nation and our economy is the pits.  If the Democrats take control of the Senate, guys like Eric Adams “Show Me the Money” will be in control.

Occam has had several posts stressing the importance of gridlock — in New York’s case, Republican control of the Senate. Senator Jose Serano’s immigration legislation and the Steamroller’s crack tax proposal are among my favorites.

There is a special election in district 48 Tuesday – it’s important for everyone in New York.  The race features two Assemblyman Will Barclay the Republican, and Darrel Aubertine the Democrat.  I found a commercial on Youtube that really sums up why it’s important Barclay wins.  Aubetine put the interests of Governor Steamroller ahead of his constituents by supporting the ill fated plan to give drivers license to illegal aliens last fall.

Take a look at this video and let us know who you would vote for if you lived in northern New York.

Hats Off Mustardstreet — Thanks to Youtube David Gantt’s Antics Can Be Seen Worldwide

Gentle Reader:

Hats off to the folks at Mustardstreet.  They were the first to have the item below. Now the entire world can see how crazy this “distinguished citizen” is.

In Honor of Lemon Lyman’s First Post — I’ll Have a Diet Coke — Hold the Lemon!

Lemon Lyman — one of the first people to find us on the internet — made his first post last night and we would like to welcome him to Monroerising.com.  I came across this on youtube and thought it would be appropriate to post it in his honor.

Next time I order a drink, I’m not going to ask for lemon.  Here’s why

Where’s the Outrage? Spitzer Cuts Aid to Monroe County Schools by $21 Million

You have to be blind (or a liberal Democrat) to not see the hypocrisy of the special interest wackos (Metro Justice, NYSUT, Alliance For Quality Education, etc.) regarding school education funding in Monroe County.

Last week these social misfits held a meeting in Greece hosted by Monroe County Legislator Richard Beebe (you remeber him — he was the recipient of all that Working Families Party cash that wasn’t reported until 75 days after the legal deadline) complaining about the FAIR plan (you remember that — Maggie Brooks’ plan to save Monroe County taxpayers $10’s of millions of dollars in Medicaid cost) that reduced school funding.

You will also remember that David Gantt and company forced this plan on the community because of their opposition to raising the sales tax in Monroe County (after approving increases all across New York State) because it was too painless and they were trying to force local Republicans to raise property taxes.

What I found really interesting is that not one of these “concerned citizens” at Thursday’s meeting has said one word about Governor Steamroller’s proposal to cut the amount of money the state promised schools last year.  In Monroe County, schools will receive $21 million less than they were promised.

A reasonable person would expect to hear outrage “for the children.” But these these people haven’t said a word about Governor Steamroller’s proposal.  What makes this even more galling is that the Steamroller is proposing to increase school funding in New York City at the expense of Monroe County children.

Their silence on this issues shows them for what they are — special interest hypocrites with an agenda that isn’t in the best interest of Monroe County.  If their concern truly was “for the children” they would be holding hearings speaking out against Spitzer’s budget proposal.

And one more thing: someone should tell these folks that it is OK to bathe, trim a beard and get a haircut once and awhile.

Say It Ain’t So Rudy

Media reports indicate that Rudy Giuliani is going to drop out of the Presidential race and endorse John McCain.  It really is sad.  Giuliani would make a great President.  Look at what he did for New York City.

It’s easy to forget how bad things were in the Big Apple.  My husband and I lived downstate and worked in the City from 1992-1999.  Before Rudy was Mayor, you couldn’t go anywhere with out those disgusting car window washers coming up to your car and extorting money from you. Crime was way down and public safety improved under Rudy’s watch.

Rudy was also the best candidate to carry on the Reagan legacy.  He worked for President Reagan and the results he had in NYC were the best arguments for conservatism and the repudiation of liberalism.

It’s interesting to listen to all the pundits criticize Rudy’s campaign strategy.  I don’t question a thing Rudy did in this campaign.  I’ve concluded that there is one fact that doomed Rudy’s campaign — our country isn’t ready to elect an Italian-American President.

Walsh Retires — Maggie Brooks Possible Candidate?

Good news, Jim Walsh is retiring from Congress.  Liz Benjamin of the Daily News lists Monroe County Executive Maggie Brooks as a possible candidate for his seat.

We at monroerising doubt Maggie would be leaving Monroe County, she’s much too important to the local Republicans.

What about Stephanie Aldersley?  Don’t forget Walsh cleaned her clock in 2002 and she might be interested at taking another shot.

Where Are The Democrats — Is Anyone Running For State Senate?

One of the bromides of politics is that serious candidates thinking of challenging incumbents start to show some type of activity after the first of the year. Take a look at the Congressional races, announced opponents for Walsh, Kuhl and Reynolds.

But what about the big names who are thinking about running for State Senate?  David Koon — the gentleman who announced he was going to run against Jim Alesi — he has just under $15,000 in his campaign account.  That’s not enough money to run for county legislature.  Perhaps his son’s actions in East Rochester have effected the elder Koon’s fundraising ability.  Or perhaps Koon realizes voters may start to experience Koon Fatigue and he is having second thoughts.  The son’s conduct may play in well in the Koon’s native West Virginia, but it is beneath the dignity of those of us living on the east-side.

And what about a challenge to Senator Joe Robach? Do you really think the Democrats will wait around for Richard Dollinger — the man who showed his true colors by deserting his party as chairman to realize his personal dream of signing off on traffic infraction plea bargains as a Brighton Town Judge?  We doubt the Democrats are waiting for “The Judge” to make up his mind.  How can they be assured he wouldn’t abandon them as he did as chairman — or how about when he announced twice he has going to run for re-election in 2002 and practically handed the seat to Robach when he announced at the last minute that he didn’t have the fire in the belly? Not to mention the two failed tries for higher judicial office.

I guess that leaves us with perennial candidate for every office Sandy Frankel. As Mr. Peabody posted on the other day, she is up to her usual tricks and pandering to the neighbors in her town.  She reports raising a grand total of $0.00 during the past six months and has a campaign balance of about $25,000 — better than Koon, but still not enough for anything more than running for re-election as Supervisor of the People’s Republic of Brighton.

In the end, the smart bet is that she will not run for Senate.  Or for County Clerk against Cheryl Dinolfo.  As much as she needs to feed the beast that is her ego, that same beast is what will prevent her from running.  A huge defeat would expose her for the paper tiger she is.

We will be waiting anxiously to see what happens in the coming weeks.
