Cara Matthews over at the D&C wrote an editorial about New York City Governor David Paterson and Assembly Democrats refusing to give middle class and lower income citizens a break on rising gas prices.

Here’s a clip on Paterson’s hardline stance against cutting taxes.

Gov. David Paterson said today that he would not give in to pressure from Republicans to give the state a sales tax “holiday” between Memorial Day and Labor Day.

The governor, speaking at a news conference in New York City, said he was taking responsibility for the issue by doing nothing.

There you have it folks!  The Democrat Governor, Democrat Assembly and some Democrat Senate members have made it very clear that they will NOT cut taxes on gas to save us money. 

Blogger Anthony Morelle makes a good point when Paterson does his typical dance by joking about the issue.  Paterson tries to explain that doing nothing to help burdened taxpayers is good for us, referencing the 1967 movie “Cool Hand Luke.”  Mr. Morelle aptly retorts:

Yeah well in 1967 gas wasn’t $4 a gallon either.  Not everyone has a government car to drive around or a mansion to live in paid for by the taxpayers

Personally, I don’t care what the reasoning is behind cutting gas taxes or if it would be a nominal savings for our working families and older folks who live on fixed incomes.  Every little bit helps when you’re not a wealthy Democrat elected official.  Cutting taxes is good, but the media is helping the Democrats by making you think cutting your taxes is bad.

Remember, the Democrat/Liberal/Progressives actually WANT gas prices to go higher to support their ”alternative fuel sources” political agenda.  ”But, doesn’t that just give more money to the big oil companies?” you might ask yourself?  ABSOLUTELY!  Their wanting to force you and I to live the way they want us to outweighes the negative impact to our family budgets.

And New York City Governor David Paterson, the Democrat Assembly and those Democrat Senators opposing these tax cuts promise that they will do nothing to help us.

One more reason to not let New York City Democrats take over the entire State of New York.

Yesterday’s D&C had a very interesting editorial about Governor Patterson’s plan to  eliminate the position of Upstate Economic Development Czar Dan Gunderson’s job. Paterson is showing his NYC bias by listening to downstate interests who feel there should be one economic development leader for the entire state.

The editorial stated:

As Paterson correctly surmised during a visit to Batavia earlier this week, the negative reaction to his intent to take away Dan Gundersen’s authority is based on fear.

Our good Governor, David Paterson, has a life coach.  Would you like to guess the coach’s gender?  Would you like to guess whether he or she would be considered attractive by most people’s standards?

If you ventured a guess, the correct ones would be a) female and b) yes.  Meet Sandra Tate — according to The New York Daily News:

As a state senator, Gov. Paterson spent $4,500 in campaign money on a woman who bills herself as a “life coach.”

Sandra Tate, who calls herself a “life coach” and is sometimes known as “Reclaimurlife Diva,” got the money in 2006. Paterson aides said she did campaign work; her Web site version is a little more vague.

On Valentine’s Day 2006, Paterson issued seven $500 campaign checks for “wages” to Tate. He later sent two more. All told, she was paid $4,500. [Read more →]

The final numbers are in and Robach’s bill passed overwhelmingly 46-15.  I’m told that not only did Democrat Senators vote FOR the bill, many of them spoke at great lengths on how it will help their constituents and why they were supporting it.

This dispels any rumors and misinformation that Democrats were only voting for the bill just because they’re afraid that a “no vote” would be used against them in the upcoming elections.  If that were the case, you’d quietly vote yes so you wouldn’t appear to support the other sides’ bill too aggressively.

Supposedly, some Assembly Democrats are supportive of cutting taxes (can you believe that?!) and Governor Patterson has not ruled consideration for it out entirely.  He rightly so would like to see some more teeth to ensure the stations pass the savings on to the customers.

The continued discussion on this is good.  At least Robach and his Senate Republican colleagues got the ball rolling on cutting state taxes for us hardworking folks footing the bill.

A contact just called me to say that the State Senate is voting right now on Joe Robach’s bill to suspend New York State’s taxes on gasoline.  Despite all the naysayers, including one of our own State Assemblymembers and Democrat political party boss Joe Morelle, who apparently don’t want to help struggling seniors and working families, the kicker is Robach’s bill is actually getting bi-partisan support from Senators on both sides of the aisle.  How about that?

As you recall, Robach held a press conference recently announcing his bill to eliminate the state taxes for the summer, stating that the measure would save families $.32 a gallon.  The feds are talking about doing the same thing on the national level which could increase the savings to $.50 a gallon.  Figures show that it could save citizens anywhere from $55-$150 over this period of time.  I know my friends and family who are not earning Dan Gunderson’s high end salary of $175,000 a year sure as heck can use this break, and so can I.

We’ll keep you posted on the outcome of the bill.

State employee Dan Gunderson was very lucky that the Democrat and Chronicle broke the story on his misuse of state taxpayers dollars to feed him and his friends at some fancy schmancy restaurants.  Poor Danny Boy is only paid $187,000 by us “rich” lower/middle class taxpayers.  Had this been a story written by the New York Posts’s Fred Dicker, it probably would have been more thorough and fairly written.

It’s comical to see that the only people Jay Gallagher sought out for comment on this story were a spokesperson from DEMOCRAT Comptroller Tom DiNapoli, who said that “… it’s not clear if these expenses violate state guidelines.”  Really? That ENTIRE state department is UNCLEAR? [Read more →]

Dan Gunderson, Client Number 9’s personal pick for Upstate Economic Development Czar, has expensive tastes.  The only reason this matters is because the taxpayers are picking up the bill.  The Democrat and Chronicle had a piece that pointed out the following examples of Gunderson milking taxpayers:

The official, Daniel Gundersen, also spent $407 to lease a car from a limousine company to get from Manhattan to a meeting in Nassau County and back, and another $239 to leave his car parked in an airport garage for 11 days just a few miles from his Buffalo office, according to a review of travel records by Gannett News Service.

$418 for a dinner, including $91 for wine and beer, in Watertown on Feb. 2, 2007, with 11 people, including the commander of Fort Drum, the head of three local companies and local economic-development officials. [Read more →]

Danny Hakim over at the New York Times wrote a piece last week about Governor David Paterson’s remarks made before the Greater New York Hospital’s Association.  Here’s snipet of the story:

But in remarks afterward, he also took a swipe at the millions of dollars the hospital association and its close ally, the hospital workers union S.E.I.U./1199, have been plowed into Senate Republican coffers in recent years.
“I think that they make their own determinations as to where they make contributions and they can do it any way they like, but boy, it sure would be funny if they keep doing it and then there’s a change,” he said, referring to a potential change in control of the Senate, “and they come asking me about it, I’ll say, ‘That’s really not my problem.’”

Is that a veiled threat from Mr. Nice Guy Paterson?  You bet it is.  My recollection is that union’s don’t take too kindly to being bullied and threatened by pretty much anyone, especially some high and mighty wanna be tough guy politician.

So, what the Democrats are saying is, if you support democracy in this state, we’re gonna come after you if we ever take over everything?  A resounding plug for letting the Democrats steal the State Senate this year.

I love the Liberal/Progressive Elite.  We’re the party of compassion, acceptance and understanding…

Unless you don’t bow to our will.  Then we’ll threaten you and make your life miserable until you conform.

I thought this type of crap was over with the exodus of discraced Liberal/Progressive former Governor F*cking Steamroller Eliot “Go Hookers!” Spitzer.  Apparently for the Democrats, sadly it’s not.

We expected more from you Mr. Governor.

I have a natural distrust for self-anointed reformers.  In most cases, politicians who cry for reform are merely trying to further their own political agenda.  And they know that as long as they use the magic R word, the dim-witted public will immediately support their actions.  Pavlov’s dogs salivated at the sound of a bell, and newspaper editors ignore reason at the sound of “reform.” 

Even worse, the politicians who cry reform the loudest are usually the biggest hypocrites.  Recent history has borne this out. 

Exhibit A, of course, is Client 9, the big bad reformer who liked to transport hookers across state lines and then make the beast with two backs while wearing black dress socks (look it up, it’s true).

Exhibit B would be the number two man on the reform ticket: David Paterson.  As we all know, this guy admitted to having an affair, having a few affairs, and then having many affairs.  Soon thereafter, he was caught using campaign funds for personal uses (including for hotel stays in Albany despite the fact that he lived 15 minutes away - I bet that had nothing to do with the many affairs to which he admitted).  And then he also admitted to cocaine use. Disgraced former Governor Spitzer, aka Client Number 9, has a new job according to the New York Daily News. And he’s going to a therapist working on his “issues” (see definitions 2 and 3).  According to the Daily News:

Eliot Spitzer may have lost his office but he’s found a job - working at his father’s real estate company.

The disgraced Spitzer, who resigned as governor a month ago after the feds caught him soliciting sex from a call-girl ring, is also seeing a therapist, according to a report in the upcoming New York magazine confirmed by the Daily News.

But mostly Spitzer is overseeing his family’s real estate business for his father, who is hospitalized with Parkinson’s disease.

“Eliot’s sort of running the show. It’s money management and property management, basically,” said a friend.

The elder Spitzer, 83, built a $500 million real estate empire that includes a full or partial stake in 10 buildings in Manhattan, including five facing Central Park.

Imagine — one of the most powerful men in the state one month and then having to work for your Dad.  That’s quite a fall.
