Did Anyone Notice That Howard Dean Was In Town Last Night?

I don’t know if anyone heard (or cared), but National Democratic Party Chairman Howard Dean attended the Monroe County Democratic Convention last night.  I had heard from my more liberal friends and colleagues how they were bracing for the storm of wonderfulness and delightfulness that would result from Dean’s visit and subsequent speech (Hopefully, Mr. Dean would give everyone a great bid bellowing scream to get the party faithful all wound up.  I had heard that his visit would be a countywide referendum on the failures of Republicans and the way they’ve been governing our area.  Unfortunately, those darn Liberals got my hopes up that some great breakthrough would be made.  Well, they fibbed again.  [Read more →]

‘Tis the Season..for Ridiculos Pandering from Hilary Clinton

Friends, sorry for my long delay in postings, I have felt inspired to return to this blog and contribute along with all my new colleagues. My favorite morning show is MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” with Joe Scarborough, former Congressman from Florida. On his show on May 5th, he had Hilary Clinton, Democratic Senator from our great state of New York as one of his guests. I have realized that the greatest power she has is the pander. She spent almost the entire 10 minute interview speaking of the Gas Tax holiday she wants to institute in three weeks (I’ve posted the link under this paragraph). The day before the Indiana and North Carolina primaries, she couldn’t pander enough. There’s truly a difference between telling the people what you can do for them and outright making up national policies in effort to acquire votes from states that you don’t represent. She even uses Tiki Barber’s appearance on the show to pander. I’ll admit, before I was enlightened, I had cast my ballot in favor of her and every time I see her speak now, I regret it.

She speaks of financing this gas holiday by taxing the oil industries which employ so many people in this nation. If they’re not making as much money, they won’t be able to give as much money back to their workers, or pay as much taxes back to the government that she wants to use for her social agenda. I agree that gas prices are too high but this is not the answer.  She wants to give a $10,000 credit to help people afford hybrid cars.  How is she going to pay for it, especially when there are children without health care, a social security system that is going bankrupt and soldiers without proper equipment in the Arabian desert.

All during this swing of primary states, she has talked about how the voters of Indiana and North Carolina believe in her and her message and that she is going to do everything she can for them. I know the votes have already been counted but I’m still waiting for Hilary to do something for me, her constituent in Western New York. I wonder if I’m the only one who feels forgotten as she’s trying to find a better gig and leave us folks behind.

Be Careful of What You Ask For, A Government That Can Give You Everything Can Also Take it Away

Ladies and Gentlemen, the other day a friend of mine sent me this story. I believe it to be a cautionary tale that I needed to share with all my friends here at MR.

There was a chemistry professor in a large college that had some exchange students in the class. One day while the class was in the lab, the professor noticed one young man, an exchange student, who kept rubbing his back and stretching as if his back hurt. The professor asked the young man what was the matter. The student told him he had a bullet lodged in his back. He had been shot while fighting communists in his native country who were trying to overthrow his nation’s government and install a new communist regime.

In the midst of his story, he looked at the professor and asked a strange question. “Do you know how to catch wild pigs?”

The professor thought it was a joke and asked for the punch line. The young man said that it was no joke.

“You catch wild pigs by finding a suitable place in the woods and putting corn on the ground. The pigs find it and begin to come everyday to eat the free corn. When they are used to coming every day, you put a fence down one side of the place where they are used to coming. When they get used to the fence, they begin to eat the corn again and you put up another side of the fence. They get used to that and start to eat again.

You continue until you have all four sides of the fence up with a gate in the last side. The pigs, which are used to the free corn, start to come through the gate to eat that free corn again. You then slam the gate on them and catch the whole herd. Suddenly the wild pigs have lost their freedom. They run around and around inside the fence, but they are caught. Soon they go back to eating the free corn. They are so used to it that they have forgotten how to forage in the woods for themselves, so they accept their captivity.”

The young man then told the professor that is exactly what he sees happening in America. The government keeps pushing us toward the far left and keeps spreading the free corn out in the form of programs such as supplemental income, tax credit for unearned income, tax cuts, tax exemptions, tobacco subsidies, dairy subsidies, payments not to plant crops, welfare, medicine, drugs while we continually lose our freedoms, just a little at a time.

As Thomas Jefferson said, “A government that is big enough to give you everything you want, is strong enough to take everything you have.”

Please friends keep this story in your mind as you watch the Presidential contests and upcoming State elections. Please help to protect the freedoms that men and women like Robert Burke have fought so valiantly to preserve.

Tom Tobin, Are You Kidding Me?

According to Democrat and Chronicle publisher Michael Kane, a new mission was unveiled early in 2008. The new mission is stated as:

“The Democrat and Chronicle remains ever vigilant for the community good, dedicated to providing unsurpassed value and excellent customer service while expanding multimedia delivery of news, information, diverse opinions and interaction. Core Values: -Lead: We will defend free speech. We will champion an open and forthright government. We will be a catalyst for meaningful change - for our community and our industry. –Inform: We will serve a diverse community as the most reliable and trusted source of local news and information. –Innovate: We will anticipate and respond to the changing needs of our customers. We will be bold and creative in our use of media platforms, always instilling a sense of confidence in our content and value in our relationships. –Inspire: We will inspire new and renewed customer relationships through a shared commitment to quality by employees who care.”

Apparently, Mr. Kane forgot to forward the memo to Editorial Board member Tom Tobin.

In reading Tobin’s editorials lately, I’ve realized I want whatever he’s smokin’ (It’s probably something Governor “Steamroller” wants to legalize). His opinion of the recent Public Defender episode was embarrassing; I was actually ashamed to have a subscription to a paper that would sanction statements like his. He speaks of the GOP Legislators as being liars; well the mirror provides a very telling picture for you as well Double T. If he was any deeper in the pockets of the Democratic Party, he’d be the fuzz you find when you search for loose change that jingles. It seems as if he has completely ignored his boss’s and the papers priorities.

Sure he’s exercising his free speech rights, but I wish every once and again his words wouldn’t be so full of make believe; I already visited Disney once this year thank you very much. That sense of fantasy is best left to the professionals not the liberal pretenders. “Most trusted source of local news and information,” I wouldn’t trust Tobin’s take as far as I can throw the Sunday paper full of all those coupons. His words certainly inspire me…inspire me enough to be concerned over the sanity of the people who don’t share his sense of social liberalism. And Tobin unquestionably cares…about himself and his views, not the majority of the people who read the paper that allow him to have a published voice.

Environmental experts always say that purging burns are good for forests and to reinvigorate growth. Perhaps its time for the D&C to take heed of this unfair and bias sense of reporting and reinvigorate the development of a once credible source of news and do the right thing….show Tom Tobin the door.

In Honor of Lemon Lyman’s First Post — I’ll Have a Diet Coke — Hold the Lemon!

Lemon Lyman — one of the first people to find us on the internet — made his first post last night and we would like to welcome him to Monroerising.com.  I came across this on youtube and thought it would be appropriate to post it in his honor.

Next time I order a drink, I’m not going to ask for lemon.  Here’s why

Shouldn’t be suprised, it’s typical behavior….

Ladies and Gentlemen, we all knew that this election cycle, especially the Presidential election, was going to be particularly rough and inspire a level of heated debate on the issues that we as citizens value with the highest level of importance. However, according to http://www.factcheck.org/, the Democratic National Committee has set up an unlimited fund to intentionally spread disinformation against the presumptive Republican nominee Senator John McCain. Many of the “charges” that DNC Chairman Howard Dean is spewing could easily be said for Democratic Party lapdogs, Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama.
The liberal progressives believe that by reverting to negative politicking almost 9 months before Election Day, that they can show that they are better than the good Senator from Arizona. This notion is absolutely absurd. Personally, I have quite a lot of faith in my fellow Americans. I believe that voters will see through these libelous attacks on an American patriot. His record may not be perfect for conservative Republicans or for liberal Democrats, but he encompasses an area of the political spectrum that a large majority of Americans reside in. The article on Annenberg Political Factcheck just goes to show how the Democratic Party will stop at nothing to take offices from deserving candidates no matter whether it be at the local, state or federal level, often times reverting to behavior, that when we were kids, would have gotten us a timeout in the corner for quite awhile.
