More News On Former Governor Spitzer

Gentle Reader:

I’ve taken a little time to cool off after my previous post on Senator Debbie Stebenow’s husband’s arrest for soliciting a prostitute.

After having time to reflect on his humanity, I’m actually starting to feel bad for former Governor Spitzer.  The pictures of him walking the dog or riding to marriage therapy in the front seat while his wife Silda sits alone in the back seat are very sad.

I’m not the only one with the former Governor on their mind.  I was at the Santana concert in Albany last week where Carlos Santana commented on the events that brought about the former Governor’s demise.  (I’m a big fan of Santana — I think 1968’s Live At The Fillmore is the best live album ever recorded.) Spitzer Finds Job — Working For His Dad!

Gentle Reader:

Disgraced former Governor Spitzer, aka Client Number 9, has a new job according to the New York Daily News. And he’s going to a therapist working on his “issues” (see definitions 2 and 3).  According to the Daily News:

Eliot Spitzer may have lost his office but he’s found a job - working at his father’s real estate company.

The disgraced Spitzer, who resigned as governor a month ago after the feds caught him soliciting sex from a call-girl ring, is also seeing a therapist, according to a report in the upcoming New York magazine confirmed by the Daily News.

(snip)

But mostly Spitzer is overseeing his family’s real estate business for his father, who is hospitalized with Parkinson’s disease.

“Eliot’s sort of running the show. It’s money management and property management, basically,” said a friend.

The elder Spitzer, 83, built a $500 million real estate empire that includes a full or partial stake in 10 buildings in Manhattan, including five facing Central Park.

Imagine — one of the most powerful men in the state one month and then having to work for your Dad.  That’s quite a fall.

More Proof of How Bad Spitzer Really Was — In Case You Still Needed To Be Convinced

In case you needed it, there has been more proof uncovered of how bad disgraced former Governor Elliott Spitzer really was.  No, I’m not talking about revelations about a second escort service he used for whoremongering (and how one of the girls involved claimed the Steamroller liked to watch other people have sex — we would call him a freak where I come from), but rather I am talking about Troopergate.

I remember at the time of the initial investigation by Albany DA David Soares, my Democratic friends claimed the matter was over and proof that Client number 9 couldn’t have been involved. But Soares released a report that showed Spitzer to be directly involved in manufacturing a story to try and damage Senate Majority Leader Joe Bruno.  This is from Rick Karlin in the Albany Times Union’s Capitol Confidential blog:

I’m in the middle of Albany County DA David Soares just-released Troopergate report and a couple of points jump out at me. For one thing, the Spitzer camp early on expressed concern about whether the governor might have a problem with his use of the helicopter, this as the TU was inquiring into use of the copter.

Then it looked like one of the more aggressive members of the Spitzer camp, visa vi Joe Bruno, was Peter Pope who first suggested the Inspector General and possibly the feds, investigate Bruno and his use of the helicopter.

Also notable was Spitzer’s reaction when former spokesman Darren Dopp, just to make sure, asked the ex-governor if he really wanted to release the records on Bruno. This came after the governor originally demurred on the idea of a press release, saying it would be too much of a distraction. [Read more →]

A Decsription of Kristen — In Her Own Words. Oh Yea, Client Number 9 is Announcing His Resignation at 11:30 AM

Here is what you get for $4300.  The Daily News found this description of “Kristen” on her website:

She boasted of being an “intelligent, sensual” woman - a college-educated 27-year-old who is 5-feet-8, a size 2 and almost a D-cup. She likes peonies and will never go skydiving again.

Other reports listed her weight as 105 lbs.

Oh yea, he is having a press conference at 11:30 am.  Probably to announce his resignation.

***BREAKING*** Spitzer to Resign Today, Possibly This Morning

Numerous media outlets are reporting that Governor Elliot Spitzer, under federal investigation for money laundering, human trafficking and soliciting the services of a prostitute, will very well announce his resignation today.  It is widely reported that the Governor and his legal team are negotiating with federal investigators to exchange his elected position and possibly his law license for a much reduced sentence as part of his conviction.

The NY Times reported this morning that Governor Spitzer’s aides leaked to them that the Governor’s wife, Silda Spitzer is urging Governor to not resign his position.

Not only does Governor Spitzer completely humiliate his wife by having her stand by his side while he tells the media and the citizens of New York that basically he does not deny any of the rumors and charges against him, he is now using her “support” as a reason for possibly refusing to resign amidst this scandal.

Where is NOW to help and stand up for this poor woman during this horrible time in her life.

If they don’t come out to defend her, they lose what little shred of credibility they had left in serving as an organization created to support women.

The Inside Scoop On the Spitzer Prostitute Scandal

I want to thank Monroerising.com for giving me the opportunity to share some thoughts and information on this latest scandal surrounding NY Governor Elliot Spitzer.  I have been following this story and the wide array of coverage closely these past two days and it’s been very interesting to hear and read comments from those who are lining up against the Governor and from those who are supporting Spitzer during this sordid affair.

First, here is a timeline of events from the Associated Press leading up to the newsbreaking story of Spitzer’s involvement with the high priced prostitution ring.

The New York Post also provides very specific details about the encounter, right down to the Governor’s apparent disappointment that he be made to wear a condom.

And now the Associated Press is reporting that Spitzer very well spent up to $80,000 on prostitutes from the Emperors Club VIP.

What I find intriguing is the fact that some people are claiming that this is nothing more than a guy getting caught with a hooker and that any further delving into the issue serves no purpose and we should just leave Spitzer alone to work things out with his family.  Spitzer himself said at his very peculiar press conference that he needed to immediately go and regain the trust of his family.  This turned out to be code for “I need to go hire some very powerful lawyers to get me out of this mess.”

What is lost in these statements is the fact that there are some felony level laws that Spitzer broke as part of his indiscretions:

1. Money Laundering:  The claim is that Governor Spitzer organized and structured the illegal payment plan with the leaders of the prostitution ring with the intention to cover up the payments and his tracks.  The investigation essentially began when Spitzer’s bank contacted federal investigators when they found substantial monetary transactions being made that gave the appearance of potential bribery, extortion, or campaign finance misuses.  Apparently, this is routine practice on such accounts of which the Governor should have been very aware.

2. Human Trafficking:  The claim is that Governor Spitzer participated in the shipping of a person across state lines for the purposes of engaging in prostitution.  Spitzer is caught on the federal wiretaps stating that he will finance the travel, hotel, and personal expenses of the prostitute to travel from New York City to Washington D.C. to meet him at the Mayflower Hotel.  Old tapes of Spitzer effectively warning potential do-badders not to provide prosecutors with obvious documentation of illegal behavior have surfaced, raising questions about the Sheriff of Wall Street heeding his own advice.

Now, the word on the streets of Albany is that Spitzer, who has claimed that he needs to regain the trust of his family and that politics is not about the individual, is hunkered down with his hired legal team of powerful lawyers working out the deal that will trade his Governorship and possibly his license to practice law, for a free ride on the several felony charges he now faces.  That doesn’t sound like someone who is concerned about his family and the public he says put their trust in him.  Right now, it’s all about protecting his own backside.  He’ll probably work on the family and public trust thing later.

Some say he’s already set in motion the process for handing over the office key to Lt. Gov. David Patterson.  I feel really bad for this guy.  Look what he has to inherit and what he needs to overcome in order to rebuild the public trust.  Hopefully, his style is to be less offensive, less aggressive, less verbally abusive and more interested in working on joint solutions, rather than the “take no prisoners” style of our disgraced Governor Spitzer.

Finally, on a side note, I found this neat pic on the AP.  The “unidentified man,” I believe, is Rochester State Assemblyman and Monroe County Democratic political party Chairman, Joe Morelle.  Morelle has effectively said he doesn’t believe discussions of impeachment are warranted.

Governor Spitzer’s Whoremongering: The Sordid Details

Normally, we wouldn’t waste our time digging into the sordid details of this debacle, but some liberal lunatics have forced our hand.  According to Liz Benjamin of the Daily Politics, “There seems to be a small, but vocal, and growing feeling in certain left-leaning cornersthat Gov. Eliot Spitzer shouldn’t resign and also might have been a target of the Bush administration’s DOJ. ”

Before we allow Client 9 to be portrayed as a victim of the Bush administration, let’s briefly review what we know about this scandal so far  (we’re basing this on the federal affidavit and several news reports):

1.  Governor Spitzer arranged for a high priced prostitute to travel across state lines to have sex with him in Washington D.C. the day before Valentines day.

2.  Governor Spitzer had used this particular prostitution ring previously, and had a credit of at least $400 on his account.

3.  Governor Spitzer gave his prostitute extra money (well over $1,000)  to be credited to his account for future use.

4.  The manager of the prostitution ring knew of Spitzer, and considered him to be “difficult.”  I’m not really sure what you have to do to be considered difficult by a pimp, but I don’t think it has anything to do with requesting red M&M’s and Fiji water.

5.  The manager of the prostitution ring was concerned how the prostitute would react when our governor “would ask you to do things, that, like, you might not think were safe.”  I’m not going to touch that one.

6.  This was not a spur of the moment transaction, where the Governor looked at the fat stack of 100’s in his wallet and decided to find himself a whore.  The investigation started when banks notified the IRS of some suspicious transactions.  According to the New York Times, these were ”transactions by a governor who appeared to be trying to conceal the source, destination or purpose of the movement of thousands of dollars in cash, said [IRS] officials, who spoke on condition of anonymity. The money ended up in the bank accounts of what appeared to be shell companies, corporations that essentially had no real business. The transactions, officials said, suggested possible financial crimes — maybe bribery, political corruption, or something inappropriate involving campaign finance. Prostitution, they said, was the furthest thing from the minds of the investigators.”  Based on my extensive experience with watching mob movies, the IRS only pays attention to transactions that exceed the $10,000 range.  Which leads us to our next sordid detail.

7.   According to the L.A Times, Governor Spitzer used the services of this particular prostitution ring on 7 or 8 previous occasions.

Governor Spitzer is toast, and the longer he holds out before resigning, the higher the likelihood that we are going to find out what a prostitute considers to be “not safe.”  Liberal apologists need to save their righteous indignation for some other cause.

Letterman Top 10 Spitzer Excuses

I would have done this on same post as monologue, but I’m techno-challenged.

This is pretty good.

Day 436 — It Looks Like It’s Over! or — Is The Steamroller Steamrolled?

Wow!  What a shock.  One of the most powerful men in the nation brought down by a scandal with a high priced whore.  I thought someone was pulling my leg until I checked out Internet reports and saw it was true.

The picture on the front page of the D&C says it all.  It looks like soon to be former first lady Silda was punched in the stomach and her family held hostage. How could your heart not go out to her and their three teenage girls, who are probably not that much younger than “Kristen” (the high priced prostitute)?

This really shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone though.  Proof of Spitzer being a bad person has been around before day one .  During the campaign two years ago, there were all kinds of charges that he ran roughshod all over people he prosecuted when he was Attorney General, but who could feel sorry for millionaire Wall Street types?

He showed very early on he couldn’t play by the notoriously lax rules of Albany protocol.  He outwardly tried to buy off as many people as possible with jobs so he could take over the Senate and get his way without having anyone stand up to him. He abused the power of his office in Troopergate. He constantly attacked political opponents, i.e. Mayor Bloomberg, as morally wrong because he did buy Spitzer non-sense that giving licenses to illegal aliens was going to lower our car insurance rates.

Yet despite this evidence, the Democratic establishment was falling all over themselves to get on this guy’s good side because it was apparent he was going to be Governor.

But now there is no way the Steamroller — or client #9 as he will now be know, can carry on.  The D&C says that 58% of the public thinks he should resign — I’d like to know who the 32% who think he should stay are (my guess is that our friend Prudence Izbad falls into this category).  They should forfeit their right to vote in my opinion.

We will watch today’s events with great interest and we will keep you posted. Who thought we would be longing for the old days when George Pataki was Governor?
