Albany Times Union Calls Out Dollinger/Nachbar Flip-flop

Got a big laugh outta this one.  It’s a little old but worth the read.  Here’s a story in the uber-liberal Albany Times Union.  Even THEY can’t help but call out millionaire candidates RICHard Dollinger and Dave Nachbar on their flip-flop on their now lack of support for Governor David Patterson’s and Senators Robach and Alesi’s efforts to provide property tax relief to working families in our community.  Here’s a snippet of the article written by Irene Jay Liu:

They accuse Robach and Alesi of “participating, while on the public dime, in a special session of the state Senate that has served as nothing more than a political public relations gimmick…”

Hm.

Just a little over a month ago, the same Dollinger and Nachbar sent out a press release where they “BLAST REPUBLICANS ROBACH AND ALESI FOR LEAVING ALBANY WITHOUT GETTING THEIR JOBS DONE,” in which “the candidates listed a litany of bills that the Republicans Senate refused to pass in a critical year for New Yorkers, including a property tax cap…

I agree.  Hm.  How does Dollinger and Nachbar call for a property tax cap one day, and then when their opponents actually get it passed, they attack them for getting it done?

I think the real flip-flop is Dollinger and Nachbar going against what Robach, Alesi, Governor Patterson and 70+% of the people in this state want — property tax relief. [Read more →]

Surprise, Surprise — RICHard Dollinger Has Been Lying To Us… Again.

Unfortunately, we expect to be writing a lot of these.  RICHard Dollinger and his New York City political smear machine lead by self proclaimed extortionist Senate Democrat Leader Malcolm Smith, have sent a number of negative attack mailers out claiming that school funding has been cut and redirected away from Rochester to be sent elsewhere.

Well, it looks like Dollinger and his team have been lying to us all along.  Nothing new when it comes to RICHard Dollinger.  He’s well known for lying to people; his political rhetoric; and telling both sides what they want to hear while supporting neither.  You gotta give him credit if you like this kind of stuff.  Dollinger has been a politician for many years and he knows how to play the political game.

Unfortunately, Dollinger’s lies have been debunked by reality.  Remember, RICHard Dollinger’s attack mailer says that local schools have lost funding.  But if you check NYS statistics for education funding to local schools, Rochester and the surrounding towns have seen record increases over the last several years.  So how are record increases a cut in funding?

Maybe RICHard was confused by our previous reporting that disgraced former Governor Elliot Spitzer wanted to cut $21 million in support for our local schools and redirect it to New York City.  That must be what RICHard was talking about.

Thanks to local elected officials like Joe Robach, Jim Alesi and any others who have truly advocated for appropriate funding support, our local schools are adequately funded.  The problem, as many voters already know, is how those districts actually spend that funding.  At around $18,000 per child in the City, it’s a crime that many kids still don’t have textbooks.

Now, electeds like Robach, Alesi, George Maziarz, Mike Nozzolio, and Assemblymembers Bill Reilich, Joe Errigo, Steve Hawley rightfully agree that we now need to get some control over skyrocketing tax increases proposed by some school districts.  They’re continuing to support a property tax cap even though Democrats are fighting desperately to raise taxes instead of capping them.

Here’s an odd twist, A Democrat Governor, Republican Senate Majority and Republican Assembly Minority support capping skyrocketing property taxes, while Senate Minority Democrats and Assembly Majority Democrats want to raise taxes instead.  Democrat Senate candidates Rick Dollinger, David Nachbar (and whoever is running against Nozzolio and Maziarz) all support the democrats’ plan to raise taxes.  Interesting.

Senate Democrats: Showing Leadership by Playing the Race Card

As we reported yesterday, the leader of the Senate Democrats basically invited his supporters to commit some felonies related to paying off public officials.  According to minority leader Malcolm Smith, supporters should view the possible takeover of the New York State Senate by the Democrats as an initial public offering of stock.

Presumably, the “stock” being offered by the Senate Democrats is ownership of their votes in next year’s legislative session.  Malcolm Smith encouraged supporters to buy in early - by contributing large amounts of cash to the Senate Democrats now - or face the prospect that the same amount of influence would be much more costly later.  “Then he referred to [Bronx state Sen.] Jeff Klein about four times as his ‘enforcer,’ who is going to be brutal, aggressive, about collecting the contributions, and that he was the one managing the IPO.”

The Senate Republicans (and most anyone else who read this story) were understandably horrified by the remarks, and in an interview, Senate Majority Leader Dean Skelos stated,  “You cannot threaten people to give contributions.  That’s thuggery.  And I think that’s totally inappropriate to make those sorts of statements.  Quid pro quo is a crime; you go to jail.”

Can you predict what came next?  If the Senate Democrats had any kind of honor, they would have removed Malcolm Smith from his leadership position.

Instead, Malcolm Smith offered the lamest of excuses for the remarks (”I was just kidding” does not cut it in elementary school and it doesn’t cut it when you are the leader of the Senate Democrats), and then played the race card.  According to a story in the New York Times, he ”called on Mr. Skelos to apologize for the ‘thuggery’ comment and suggested that his remarks had a racial tinge.  ‘I think that demeans his position and has questionable overtones.  I call on him to apologize,’ said Mr. Smith, who is black.”

Let us review: the leader of the Senate Democrats tells everyone that his conference’s votes are for sale, and when he is confronted about it, he plays the race card.

I think I just threw up in my mouth.

Face It — The Liberals Like Taxes

We’ve commented many times about how liberals like taxes.  One of my favorites was a recent post on rochesterturning calling taxes an “investment.”

Let me start by saying I believe taxes are an investment in the future. They fund infrastructure, they pay into accounts (like Social Security), and can be a huge lever that everyone helps with to do things we just can’t do on our own.

Yes, exactly — an investment in the future.  That’s why our state is doing better than any other in the nation.  We invest 79% more than the national average through property taxes.

Well now, the Working Families Party, the people supporting millionaires RICHard Dollinger and David Nachbar, are airing television commercials against Governor Patterson’s property tax cap. According to a source no less reputable than the liberal standard bearer the New York Times, which had this article:

Starting on Tuesday, the left-leaning Working Families Party and the education advocacy group Alliance for Quality Education began broadcasting commercials in the state’s biggest television markets that assail the governor for his support of a cap in property tax increases.

The commercials, which are being broadcast at a cost of $1.5 million and will run repeatedly on cable and network television from now until Aug. 19, the day the Legislature convenes for a special session, refer to the cap as a “gimmick” and a “scheme.”

(snip)

Mr. Paterson’s office responded to the advertisement on Tuesday in a written statement calling the cap plan “sensible” and citing progress by students in Massachusetts, where a cap on increases was put in place. It also tied the cap in with the governor’s plan to turn New York’s economy around.

“There is widespread recognition among New Yorkers that runaway increases in property taxes are deeply hurting our state,” the statement said. “Anyone who does not acknowledge this trend is out of touch with working families. The longer we wait to approve a property tax cap, the more we will hamstring New York from reaching its full economic potential.”

And rumor has it Tom Golisano wants to help these same Democrats totally take over state government?

It truly is galling that Dollinger and Nachbar received the support of this union special interest group and they have the nerve to claim their opponents have done enough to control property taxes.

We at monroerising.com are commited to getting the truth out on this subject.  We mentioned an e-mail we received earlier from a reader about the Working Families Circuit Breaker property tax cap.  Take a look at their website.  Use their calculator.  Let’s just say you are one of those really wealthy families making a total family income of $60,000 and you are paying a total of $3700 in property taxes.  Their plan would save you an amazing $100 per year — a little less than $10 per month. That would make quite a difference in your life wouldn’t it?

The Working Families Party is nothing more than a front for organized labor.  They are using our kids to protect their union members. You would think that the public would see through this, but who knows?  $1.5 million dollars in special interest money could have a significant impact on the public.

So This Is Campaign Finance Reform — A Billionaire Helping Millionaires Get Elected?

“Republicans are for the rich — they just don’t relate to the little guy like me.”  How many times have you heard that from some misguided liberal?  An article in yesterday’s Democrat and Chronicle about campaign finance really has me wondering.  How is it that the Democrats are running so many millionaires? Just look at this:

Dollinger raised money from people in Rochester and outside the district, and lent his campaign $12,500.

(snip)

Dollinger’s mother is part of the Wegman family and she contributed $9,500, while Danny Wegman contributed $6,000.

(snip)

In another competitive race, in the 55th Senate District, Democratic challenger David Nachbar has raised $50,866 and contributed $175,000 to his account

This is unbelievable.  Do you, or anyone you know, have an extra $175,000 laying around so you can run for public office?  How about an extra $12,500?  Could you go to your mother and ask her for $9,500?  Would your stepbrother kick in $6,000? My answers would be: no, no, no and no.  My guess is that you would answer the same way.

And now a billionaire (Tom Golisano) wants to throw his money around to help these guys get elected.

What makes this even more incredible is that the sellouts in the Working Families Party are so desperate to get rid of Republicans, they will dump on people like Jim Alesi (who is a successful, selfmade businessman) and Joe Robach who grew up in Charlotte for these mamby-pambies.

I can’t believe that if these guys were ever to get elected they would adopt the soak the rich philosophy that the Working Families and Democratic Parties have adopted.  I hope the Republicans point this out in the upcoming election.  The fate of our state depends on it.

Liberal Democrat to Endorse Two Liberal Democrats For State Senate

It has been said that one of the most dangerous places to be in Washington, DC is between liberal Senator Chuck Schumer and an television camera.  Well Senator Schumer will be in Rochester Monday to endorse millionaire, elitist Democratic Senate candidates RICHard Dollinger and David Nachbar. I hope RICHard and Nachbar don’t get in the way.

As Occam pointed out a couple of days ago, all three will undoubtedly insult the intelligence of anyone with a brain.  As Occam pointed out:

Yes.  When we think about out-of-control property taxes and the business climate in Western New York, we yearn for the leadership of Senate Minority Leader Malcolm Smith. (If the democrats take control of the Senate, he becomes the Majority Leader).  He seems like just the guy to turn the ship around.

Having two of the three men in a room negotiating state issue from Manhattan and the other one from Queens is just the thing to fix the woes of New York State.  I hope the local media ignores this non-event.  If they do cover it, I hope someone asks them how electing a Democrat majority is good for Rochester.

Someone Ought To Ask Dollinger And Nachbar About This

The New York Post had an interesting article this weekend concerning the possible consequences of a Democratic takeover of the state Senate. According to Fred Dicker:

Top Democratic and Republican strategists told The Post that a Democratic Senate victory would, in fact, trigger one of the fiercest political fights ever and produce a sustained period of even more than the usual Albany chaos.

The main reason is that after 44 years of being out of power, Senate Democrats don’t have the knowledge, skill or talent to be an effective majority. And many Democrats - including some close to Gov. Paterson - agree.

Senate Democrats are also so liberal and so disproportionately from New York City that some of Paterson’s aides fear a Democratic majority will refuse to join the governor in his effort to cut state spending, cap skyrocketing property taxes and improve the state’s harsh business climate.

Someone ought to ask the guy who wants to be a judge, and the guy who needs a job (Nachbar), why people in Monroe County should vote for them.

Nachbar Announces in The New York Times

The following appeared in today’s New York Times. Why do these guys scoop out of town papers and ignore local media?

 A Rochester-area Challenge

One candidate exits, and another enters. The Democrats have enlisted a former Bausch & Lomb executive, David R. Nachbar, to challenge Senator James S. Alesi, a Republican who represents much of the Rochester area.

“I’ve spent my entire career listening to people and understanding what their hopes, their skills, their ambition and their dreams are, and finding the best way to put people to work,” said Mr. Nachbar, who was an executive vice president of human resources at Bausch & Lomb.

“I’m not a politician; I’d rather be known as a public servant and as someone who can get things done, and that’s why I wanted to do this.”

He will face a tough battle. Mr. Alesi, a six-term incumbent, is not considered a weak candidate, and Republicans have an enrollment edge in the district.

“Alesi is very strong in that district,” said John McArdle, a spokesman for the Senate majority leader, Joseph L. Bruno. He added that many previous potential candidates had seen that Mr. Alesi “would be overwhelmingly re-elected and decided to take a pass.”
