Unfortunately, we expect to be writing a lot of these. RICHard Dollinger and his New York City political smear machine lead by self proclaimed extortionist Senate Democrat Leader Malcolm Smith, have sent a number of negative attack mailers out claiming that school funding has been cut and redirected away from Rochester to be sent elsewhere.
Well, it looks like Dollinger and his team have been lying to us all along. Nothing new when it comes to RICHard Dollinger. He’s well known for lying to people; his political rhetoric; and telling both sides what they want to hear while supporting neither. You gotta give him credit if you like this kind of stuff. Dollinger has been a politician for many years and he knows how to play the political game.
Unfortunately, Dollinger’s lies have been debunked by reality. Remember, RICHard Dollinger’s attack mailer says that local schools have lost funding. But if you check NYS statistics for education funding to local schools, Rochester and the surrounding towns have seen record increases over the last several years. So how are record increases a cut in funding?
Maybe RICHard was confused by our previous reporting that disgraced former Governor Elliot Spitzer wanted to cut $21 million in support for our local schools and redirect it to New York City. That must be what RICHard was talking about.
Thanks to local elected officials like Joe Robach, Jim Alesi and any others who have truly advocated for appropriate funding support, our local schools are adequately funded. The problem, as many voters already know, is how those districts actually spend that funding. At around $18,000 per child in the City, it’s a crime that many kids still don’t have textbooks.
Now, electeds like Robach, Alesi, George Maziarz, Mike Nozzolio, and Assemblymembers Bill Reilich, Joe Errigo, Steve Hawley rightfully agree that we now need to get some control over skyrocketing tax increases proposed by some school districts. They’re continuing to support a property tax cap even though Democrats are fighting desperately to raise taxes instead of capping them.
Here’s an odd twist, A Democrat Governor, Republican Senate Majority and Republican Assembly Minority support capping skyrocketing property taxes, while Senate Minority Democrats and Assembly Majority Democrats want to raise taxes instead. Democrat Senate candidates Rick Dollinger, David Nachbar (and whoever is running against Nozzolio and Maziarz) all support the democrats’ plan to raise taxes. Interesting.
