Who’s Running RICHard Dollinger’s Campaign — The Albany Political Bosses?

Hats of to Channel 10.  They did a story on anonymous mailing sent out on Dollinger’s behalf attacking Joe Robach and one for who ever is running against Jim Alesi for voting for the same budget that Dollinger’s political patrons David Paterson and Joe Morelle voted for.

There was no return address on it — I think this is illegal.  The bulk permit said Atlas Direct Mail a mailhouse used by state Senate Democrats.  Take a look at this expense report I found on the state BOE website.  Atlas was used by Democratic Senator Craig Johnson in that special election to replace Mike Balboni — the first and only rat to jump at former Governor Steamroller’s offer of a job to try to buy the senate.  Ironically, Atlas Direct Mail is housed in Long Island — the very place they say Robach gave tax cuts to — how’s that for nerve?

Channel 10 went to an RIT Political Science professor and here’s what he said:

News 10 NBC took the anonymous mailer to Spencer Meredith, professor of political science at R.I.T. He said, “Setting this aside, this specific message here. Is it ethical to blame one person or one party for something that received support across parties and in different branches of government? Of course, it’s not ethical.

Wait, Dollinger do something unethical?  I thought he was the great reformer?

The local media really needs to ask Dollinger about this.  He can’t claim a lack of knowledge.  If he does, it shows the political bosses are calling the shots.  If they are doing this during his campaign, what would it be like if he were to win?

And what about Joe Morelle, David Gantt and Susan John?  They voted for the same budget Robach did — why not criticize them?

Dare I point out that this all makes RICHard look like a hypocrite.  This reminds me of former Governor Spiter’s conduct.  Claim you are a reformer when you can’t even play by the notoriously lax rules of Albany!  Nice going.

This should give Sandy Frankel even more to think about!

Mr. Peabody Is Wrong. Gantt Is Doing The Right Thing — Just Ask Pastor Manning

James David Manning, Pastor of the Atwah Ministries in Harlem, has an interesting take on African-American leaders.  In this clip, he berates Barack Obama for never having been in jail.  He feels a black leader isn’t “keeping it real” if they haven’t been to jail.

So, Assemblyman David Gantt’s action in February make all the sense in the world.  And his support of Hillary Clinton makes sense now in light of the Pastor’s comments (who cares who you vote for when both candidates have white mamas?).

Mr. Peabody, I agree with about 95% of what you have to say, but you’re wrong on this.  To quote Pastor Manning, “if white people haven’t put a black person in jail then he’s not qualified to be a leader in the African American community.” Assemblyman Gantt is doing the wright right thing!

Is Assemblyman David Gantt Selling Out The Black Community?

Monroerising wrote a number of articles covering the antics of State Assemblyman Gantt and his band of forty thugs during our “David Gantt attempts to hijack the selection of Public Defender” series.  If you missed them, feel free to reread here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, aaannnnnd here.

Well Gannett News Service Political Scene Reporter Joseph Spector wrote a neat little piece that helps shed some light on why Gantt all of the sudden had such an unusual spurt of energy back then.  Here’s Spector’s post:

The state Democratic Committee completed its selection today of its 320 delegates and alternates to attend the Democratic National Convention in Denver this summer.

They also named four new superdelegates, all of which are backing Hillary Rodham Clinton — Attorney General Andrew Cuomo, former Manhattan Borough President C. Virginia Fields, Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli and state Assemblywoman Carmen Arroyo.

Clinton has 139 pledged delegates and Obama has 93 pledged delegates.

Here’s the list of the delegates selected today.

Politics Is Taking Over The Rehabilitation Of Our City Schools — What Is David Gantt Doing About It?

While trolling through the D&C editorial blogs recently in an effort to find some semblance of fair and balanced reporting from the powers that be over there, I actually happened upon an excellent post from Tom Tobin that blows the whistle on some political hanky panky going on with some appointments to a local board — and no, it’s not the Public Defender or the President of MCC.

It’s a board that is supposed to manage millions of dollars in state funding for improvements to deteriorating city schools.

Here’s Tobin’s post in its entirety:

The games being played over at MCC should stick in the collective craw, but there are political games being played as well over the naming of the special board required by law to oversee the huge school modernization project in the city. Mayor Duffy mentioned it yesterday during his visit to the Editorial Board, and said that he and school superintendent Brizard are close to making their appointments to the board.

It’s taken months to get this thing set up. Why? Because there’s a ton of money, perhaps as much as $1 billion in design, construction and other kinds of contracts at play here, and you can believe that the special interests want not only a place at the table but enough clout to have things their way. Much of this is going on behind the scenes but the political maneuvering, in style and intent, probably isn’t all that removed from what’s going on with the MCC search.

Record Increases In Aid To Rochester City Schools — Look At What We Get For Our “Investment”

I’ve never heard of the Northeast and the Northwest College Preparatory Schools in the City of Rochester.  Considering the Rochester City School District has a 39% graduation rate, you would think it must be where the cream of the crop of City school students go.

There was a story on Channel 10 last night about an incident there yesterday afternoon.  Someone pulled a fire alarm and after the fire department responded the students went back into the school.  Evidently a fight broke out in the school and one of the youngsters went after the school’s police resource officer — yes that’s right, a 15 year old student went after the police officer — at the College preparatory school (maybe they should transfer him to the James Madison School of Excellence).

Apparently the school resource officer felt concerned for his safety and the safety of the other students and had to use pepper spray.  Three students were taken to Rochester General and one was seen by the school nurse and one was sent to the pokey.  Channel 10 reported that parents “were screaming at police” — yes that’s right, they were yelling at the police — not the youngsters at the College Preparatory School — for using pepper spray.

While this was going on, another fight broke out off of school grounds.  More police were called. Rural Metro responded to a “mass casualty incident”.  A student criticized the police for pepper spray and arresting people “for no reason.” [Read more →]

Conservative Party Boss Tom Cook Calls Out Monroe County Bar Association President Tom Smith

Can you say big liar? Those are the words I would use to describe Monroe County Bar Association Tom Smith.

Of course I’m talking about that article in Monday’s Democrat and Chronicle about Monroe County Bar Association President Tom Smith lying about judges abilities to serve on Public Defender selection committees.

According to the D&C’s Gary Craig:

In an opinion released last week, the state’s Advisory Committee on Judicial Ethics stated that there is past precedent for the involvement of judges on a screening panel to choose a public defender. The opinion of judges may be vital because “there exists a constitutional obligation to provide competent counsel to represent indigent criminal defendants,” the committee noted in a 2001 opinion.

Similarly, the committee said in last week’s opinion, “a full-time judge’s service on such a (public defender screening) panel is ethically permissible and consistent with a judge’s important role in ensuring the adequacy of indigent criminal defense services.” [Read more →]

They’re At It Again — Create A Controversy Over MCC Presidency And Then Complain About Its Effect

They’ve done it again — the liberal political activists have generated tens of thousands of dollars worth of negative publicity for MCC  over the Presidency “controversy” and now they’re in the D&C complaining about the effect of that controversy on MCC fundraising.

According to the D&C:

In a March 18 letter to MCC board Chairman Richard Guon, 16 members of the MCC Foundation’s executive committee wrote that “appointing a president who is not acknowledged to be the best candidate for the position will hamper the ability of the Foundation to raise private funds.” [Read more →]

MCC Presidency Heats Up — A New Cause For Assemblyman David Gantt and Company

Gentle Reader:

Our friends over at Mustardstreet are on top of the newest “controversy” — the selection of a new MCC President. Take a look at their post – once again they are spot on regarding the cause of the day.  Gantt is once again showing his political skills — deflect attention for his failings in Albany by leveling charges at Mr. Charlie once again.  It is rather predictable but why not?  The liberals in the media fell all over themselves with the Public Defender issue — why not go to the well one more time?

Nice work Philbrick and Company!

Appellate Judges Overturn Supreme Court Ruling On County FAIR Plan

The D&C is reporting that the Appellate Division’s Fourth Department found in favor of the Monroe County School Board Association’s lawsuit it brought against the County’s FAIR Plan.  As you know, the intention of the FAIR Plan was to utilize collected sales tax revenues to pay for Monroe County’s increasing Medicaid costs prior to distributing the remaining funding the County shares with local school districts across Monroe County, except for the Rochester City School District, which would not have been impacted by the move.

The County chose this course of action to pay for mandated welfare costs instead of increasing property taxes on homeowners.  But the Rochester Democratic Assembly Delegation (David Gantt, Susan John, David Koon & Joe Morelle) made it clear they would not allow Monroe County to raise its sales tax a penny to pay these costs.  Their resistance was meant to force Monroe County to raise property taxes on us homeowners instead.

Well, if the local Assembly Dems and democrats in the County Legislature have their way, we property taxpayers will foot the bill for these increased welfare costs.  I don’t know about you, but as a member of middle class I just can’t take another hit.  At least with the sales tax I could control my purchases.  Will my school district retract their huge proposed tax increase now that they don’t need the money?  Doubt it.  They’ll find another reason to need it “for the kids.”

Monroe County says it will appeal.  I hope to God they do or New York is losing two more people who are among the decreasing number helping to foot the bill.

Gay Bashing Incident — Did It Really Happen? It Looks Like Political Correctness Wins Out Over Facts

Channel 13’s Rachael Barnhart had a fantastic piece Wednesday on the “Gay Bashing” incident from last summer.  You remember that, there were protests, press conferences and outrage in the gay community.  Too bad Maggie Brooks wasn’t appealing the judicial decision to re-define marriage last summer – then the liberal professional activist community could have been blamed her for promoting an intolerant attitude and this would have been her fault.

According to Channel 13:

13WHAM News has obtained an internal police department document into last year’s alleged anti-gay hate crime on South Goodman Street. It says there was no hate crime, and raises questions as to whether department leaders misled the public.

The RPD conducted two investigations into what happened on June 1, 2007. One was an internal affairs investigation into complaints of officer misconduct. The other was a criminal investigation that went to the grand jury.

13WHAM News obtained the incident report, which details the criminal investigation. The city did not want us to release this document, saying it was sealed by a judge in the grand jury proceeding.

(snip)

The report says one of the alleged victims and their friend were actually the aggressors in two separate fist fights that started when someone yelled an anti-gay slur from a parked taxi cab.

Investigators say one alleged victim told them he “did not believe the other group knew that anyone in his group was gay.”

Investigators say another alleged victim told them she “never heard any gay comments before, during, or after the fight.”

A friend of the alleged victims told police he “was pretty much in shock that the fight was turned into a hate crime.”

Investigators identified four people who fought with the alleged victims, but at no point did they consider those four people suspects.

Yet two weeks after the incident, Chief Moore announced the department was looking for four suspects, two men and two women.

Wow! This is a blockbuster and only one media outlet has done a story.  Take a look at what the Mayor’s chief flak, Gary Walker had to say:

City spokesman Gary Walker said there would be criminal and internal investigations into who leaked the document to 13WHAM News.

“The document is misleading,” Walker said. “It’s not the full story.”

What?  After the Public Defender selection issue, how can the City shut out “the community.”  We have a right to know what is going on.  The process works best when it is exposed to the light of public scrutiny.  The Mayor allows political correctness to effect criminal investigations.  All of this on “Sunshine Week” and the Democrat and Chronicle doesn’t even mention it.  They don’t have a problem using leaked information — they do it all the time.

Where is the outrage? Where are the protests? Let the police officers speak!  Let our people in ! We shall over come!  Sorry, I got caught up in the moment.

Seriously, this is big.  It shows how the liberal media, primarily the D&C, really fails to do its job.  It also points out the need for outlets like Monroerising.com.  The public has a right to know what’s going on.  It is starting to look like you need to be a professional protester to get the media’s attention.  We are at a disadvantage here. The conservative community doesn’t have a professional protest network (most of them have jobs and families to take care of).

Mayor Duffy’s breach of the public trust is bigger than almost any local issue in the last year and yet most people in Rochester will never know the facts of this case.  Think about the implications of what has happened.  Members of a protected class, in this case gays, uses their protected class status to incite the community in a case where it appears they were the ones acting inappropriately.

Maybe it’s me, but doesn’t that sound a lot like what happened at that first meeting of the Public Safety Committee when Assemblyman David Gantt refused the lawful orders of a police officers and his buddies actually pushed that poor woman around?

This is really getting out of hand.
