Surprise, Surprise — RICHard Dollinger Has Been Lying To Us… Again.

Unfortunately, we expect to be writing a lot of these.  RICHard Dollinger and his New York City political smear machine lead by self proclaimed extortionist Senate Democrat Leader Malcolm Smith, have sent a number of negative attack mailers out claiming that school funding has been cut and redirected away from Rochester to be sent elsewhere.

Well, it looks like Dollinger and his team have been lying to us all along.  Nothing new when it comes to RICHard Dollinger.  He’s well known for lying to people; his political rhetoric; and telling both sides what they want to hear while supporting neither.  You gotta give him credit if you like this kind of stuff.  Dollinger has been a politician for many years and he knows how to play the political game.

Unfortunately, Dollinger’s lies have been debunked by reality.  Remember, RICHard Dollinger’s attack mailer says that local schools have lost funding.  But if you check NYS statistics for education funding to local schools, Rochester and the surrounding towns have seen record increases over the last several years.  So how are record increases a cut in funding?

Maybe RICHard was confused by our previous reporting that disgraced former Governor Elliot Spitzer wanted to cut $21 million in support for our local schools and redirect it to New York City.  That must be what RICHard was talking about.

Thanks to local elected officials like Joe Robach, Jim Alesi and any others who have truly advocated for appropriate funding support, our local schools are adequately funded.  The problem, as many voters already know, is how those districts actually spend that funding.  At around $18,000 per child in the City, it’s a crime that many kids still don’t have textbooks.

Now, electeds like Robach, Alesi, George Maziarz, Mike Nozzolio, and Assemblymembers Bill Reilich, Joe Errigo, Steve Hawley rightfully agree that we now need to get some control over skyrocketing tax increases proposed by some school districts.  They’re continuing to support a property tax cap even though Democrats are fighting desperately to raise taxes instead of capping them.

Here’s an odd twist, A Democrat Governor, Republican Senate Majority and Republican Assembly Minority support capping skyrocketing property taxes, while Senate Minority Democrats and Assembly Majority Democrats want to raise taxes instead.  Democrat Senate candidates Rick Dollinger, David Nachbar (and whoever is running against Nozzolio and Maziarz) all support the democrats’ plan to raise taxes.  Interesting.

Moore Good News For Monroe County Republicans!

The Democrat and Chronicle is reporting that Andy Moore is the new Executive Director of the Monroe County Republican Committee.  Moore is the former Chief of Staff for Bill Reilich when Reilich was first elected to the Assembly and he also was Chief of Staff for the Monroe County Legislature’s Republican Majority.

It appears that Reilich has made a wise choice in one of his first official duties.  Sources tell us that Moore is politically savvy and well respected by all in the Republican Party.  His experience in the County Legislature will be crucial heading into next year’s fight for Republicans to keep their slim majority.

It’s Now 12:22 A.M. and Democrat David Garretson Either Just Broke Election Law…

or he didn’t raised money for his political campaign against well known incumbent Republican NYS Assemblyman Bill Reilich.

An avid reader asked us to follow this one because indications were that Garretson wasn’t going to file his report on time like everyone else for some reason.

The fact is, Dave Garretson has now joined Democrat Dick Beebe on the growing list of Democrat political candidates who choose not to follow election law rules.  It kind of make you wonder how well these guys will govern if elected.  Beebe has been such a dud since he got in that he might as well not be considered an elected official.

Great job Democrats making sure your local boys stay on top of the whole rules and law thingy!

Or, Garretson just cut himself a bunch of checks like Democrat County Leg. staffer, Joe Rittler.

Maybe Rittler should be called on to resign.

With local Democrat candidates/electeds/staff like these, this is gonna be a great year for local Republicans!

<<UPDATE>>  Garretson finally filed his financial report after the deadline.  He’s taking a page from Dick Beebe… Better late than never on time!

I Agree With Jim Lawrence, David Gantt and Joe Morelle — Should I Be Concerned?

My earlier post on Maggie Brooks’ choice of Bill Reilich for Republican chair was mostly written last night — I polished it up this morning and posted it before I read the Democrat and Chronicle’s editorial on Reilich

Check out the editorial board saying:

Her recommendation of Assemblyman Bill Reilich is a good one.

I would have bet big money they would be critical.

Even Assemblyman David Gantt had nice things to say:

Assemblyman David Gantt attested to Reilich’s willingness to work across the aisle.

Heck, the Cat Wisperer called him a friend:

Monroe County Democratic Committee Chairman Joseph Morelle, who is a Democratic assemblyman from Irondequoit, called Reilich a friend and a colleague.

“I wish him luck, just not that much luck,” Morelle said.

This has been a PR victory of major significance for the County Executive. We’ll see how long the honeymoon lasts.

Chairman Reilich — Just What The Doctor Ordered

Maggie Brooks has made a great pick.  Assemblyman Bill Reilich is the right person to replace Steve Minarik as Republican Chairman.

Reilich has been around for awhile and has experience — but he isn’t an old school politician. He knows county and state government.  And unlike Minarik, he a consensus builder — all important attributes.

Reilich will be taking over at a critical time.  Local Republicans have some very big challenges coming up.  Keeping Jim Alesi and Joe Robach in the Senate are the first two to come to mind and it would be nice if could hang on to one or two of the three congressional seat that come into the Rochester area.

In order to accomplish this, the party needed to make a change.  For most of Minarik’s tenure, he faced a local Democratic party that was in disarray.  The Democrats were led by people like Molly Clifford, Ted O’Brien and Bob Cook.  All of them nice people, but they were unable to build support and organize their resources.  It’s easy to win races when you are outspending your opponents by huge sums of money.

But that all changed when the Cat WhispererJoe Morelle, took over the local Democratic Party.  Suddenly, Democrats had resources to be competitive.  If you take a look at the races that could be described as fair fights over the past couple of years, races where both sides had relatively equal resources, Minarik’s record wasn’t that impressive.

More than one source commented to us on the atmosphere within the local party structure.  It has been well documented that Minarik was at odds with many people in the community.  What hasn’t been talked about is that he was at odds with many of the political operatives that used to be part of the Republican campaign structure.

There are may talented people in the Republican party who didn’t feel welcome at Republican headquarters. Minarik had reached the point where he only talked to a small circle of advisors.  Their inclusion in his circle was based on how close and loyal they were to Minarik — not necessisarily their talent or ability.

This needed to be turned around. Reilich’s background is well suited to do it.  He comes from Greece and was a part of the rebuilding of the Greece Republican Committee.  Before Supervisor John Auberger was elected in 1998, the Greece Republican committee was in disarray.  Democrats had held numerous positions and Reilich was a part of the team that turned this around.

He is a former small business owner, so he should have no problem reaching out the business community.  He is acceptable to the base of the Republican Party, but he should also be able to reach out to people Minarik made a habit of antagonizing.

All in all, Brooks’ choice is right on the mark.
