ALGore is in the Oil Business?

Remember a few weeks ago when Al Gore was telling us that we should move off of oil within 10 years? Turns out he’s in the oil business. Gore is a member of Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers a major venture capital firm. The over $300 million green portfolio set up with Gore has many companies deeply invested in the fossil fuel business. One is the secretive Terralliance Technologies, which describes itself on its website as “an oil and gas exploration and production company.” Fortune reports that Terralliance “has already dug 100 wells around the world and is in the process of raising additional capital,” and that it “has developed software that purports to make it easier and cheaper to find and extract oil and natural gas.”

Fortune reporter Adam Lashinsky says, “It would be ironic, to say the least, if Kleiner’s first ‘green’ jackpot turns out to be a company that actually drills for oil.” Here is a link to a New York Times article from last year about the fossil fuel investments of Kleiner Perkins.

One thing we need to remember about Gore is that the 10 year clock never starts. 8 years ago he said the world only had 10 years to go. So we should only have 2 years left by his calculations. Maybe if he said we need to move off of oil in 10 years it would happen after he made his money in Oil.

I Still Don’t Think it Will Happen

Friends, on June 4th, I wrote a post stating that I’ll believe that Barack Obama will be the Democratic nominee for President when the Democratic/Progressive/Liberal/Socialist officially nominate him.

Apparently I’m not alone in my thinking.  Over at americanthinker.com, Dennis Keohane wrote an article stating the exact same thing.

“Many of us familiar with Hillary Clinton’s approach to achieving her goals refused to believe that she ever gave up all hope of winning the nomination and the presidency. Her words and actions on the subject of the convention itself always left the door open for a return, should Obama falter or suffer some calamity.”

He states that many super delegates having been getting the squeeze from the Clinton Camp on the level of giddiness for Obama and their security in his column, Clinton is stating that she wants her delegate seated out of “respect” for her accomplishments, and that she may even put her name on the ballot to be nominate.  Even Obama believes Michigan and Florida should be fully seated, which would give popular vote wins to Clinton, if that’s the case then some Super Delegates, under Clinton urging, could sit out the first ballot and then cast their vote for Hillary on the second.  These factors, along with Hillary’s popular supporters who plan on protesting outside Pepsi Arena in Denver could cause major problems with Obama and his campaigns sense of an electoral manifest destiny

“It looks like Obama’s belief in his inevitability may have led him into a blunder, making it easier for Hillary supporters to prevent a nomination on the first ballot. After that point, anything goes, as all super delegates and many pledged delegates are free to vote their preferences.”

If that does in fact happen, all hell will break loose.  Thank god it will be in prime-time cause it will be a show not to be missed.

Obama the hype movie

(The following is pure sarcasm)

A movement is sweeping the nation. Frenzied crowds gather in every state. Young people chant and sing. Women swoon. The result is record voter turn out and a rare political enthusiasm. At the head of this unprecedented phenomenon stands a charismatic figure intent on becoming the President of the United States.

Here is a longer view of the movie about plastic Jesus

Obama’s Winding War Path

Obama's lost on IraqBarrack Obama benefited mightily in the Democratic presidential primary from his consistent stance against the war in Iraq, while Hillary Clinton spent a lot of time parsing about why she voted for the then quite unpopular and seemingly ill-fated campaign.

But a funny thing happened on the way to the real election: things in Iraq started to get better. Now, with violence in Iraq at its lowest level in years, Obama is the one doing the parsing.  To be fair, Obama’s primary message on the war was going to change for the general election no matter what. His mantra that we never should have gone into Iraq, we shouldn’t be there now and we should leave immediately may have been music to the ears of the loony left of the Democratic party in a primary, but it was never intended for prime time. That’s why you heard him, especially once the primary seemed to be in the bag, shift to his message of getting out as carefully as we got in.  That sentiment (even though it makes absolutely no sense) had the necessary ambiguity to make Americans believe that Obama would push for a resolution that could make everyone feel better about the whole thing. That would likely have been Obama’s message in the general election had things not gone horribly wrong, which is to say right, in Iraq.

The progress in Iraq forces Obama to face tough questions about the glaringly obvious success of the surge, which he opposed and John McCain pushed hard for at his own political peril. Admitting that the surge has worked forces him to admit that McCain was right and he was wrong. Instead, he points to progress like the Anbar Awakening that had started to happen before the surge in order to (not so) subtly insinuate that the surge didn’t really do anything. His resistance to acknowledging the success of the surge just makes him look like a run of the mill politician who can never admit mistakes.

However, the larger point is that the recent success in Iraq has left Obama without a war policy. It’s hard to deny the distasteful idea that the best thing for the Obama campaign would have been continued violence and anarchy in Iraq. John Kerry, who famously voted for the $87 billion before he voted against it, was hurt by his nonsensical Iraq policy. His argument that he would basically do the same thing as Bush in Iraq, but in some ill-defined way he would do it better, more or less doomed his bid for the White House. Now that it looks like troops will be coming home as a result of progress and improved conditions on the ground, Obama’s position is that he too will bring troops home, but he would have done it even if things were still bad. That’s not exactly a winning message. Obama has even said that he would consult with the commanders, but that he wouldn’t really listen to them if they didn’t agree with him that troops had to start coming home immediately.

So, basically, the better things go in Iraq, the worse it will be for the Obama campaign. I know what I’ll be rooting for.

Obama The Politician Flip Flops On Offshore Drilling!

Barack Obama announced a flip flop on a major issue.  He now supports offshore drilling for oil. According to the Olympian newspaper:

The change is dramatic because Obama often pointed to his opposition to drilling as a key difference between himself and presumptive Republican presidential nominee Sen. John McCain.

“I will keep the moratorium in place and prevent oil companies from drilling off Florida’s coasts,” Obama said in Florida in June.

Friday, he said he was still not a fan of drilling, telling the Palm Beach paper, “I think it’s important for the American people to understand we’re not going to drill our way out of this problem.”

Obama also said, in a separate statement issued by his campaign, that he supported the bipartisan energy plan offered by 10 senators Friday.

“Like all compromises, it also includes steps that I haven’t always supported,” he said. “I remain skeptical that new offshore drilling will bring down gas prices in the short-term or significantly reduce our oil dependence in the long-term, though I do welcome the establishment of a process that will allow us to make future drilling decisions based on science and fact.”

(snip)

McCain reacted quickly to Obama’s switch in positions, telling The Associated Press, “We need oil drilling and we need it now offshore. He has consistently opposed it. He has opposed nuclear power. He has opposed reprocessing. He has opposed storage.”

Geesh, I wonder if polls showing 75% of Americans supporting offshore drilling had anything to to with his switch.  Can support for drilling in Anwr be far behind?

Is America Ready For Barack Obama?

With a voting record to the left of the only openly socialist in Congress, Sen. Bernie Sanders of Vermont, Sen. Obama, a product of the notoriously corrupt Chicago machine which rewards political expediency over character, is a plainly arrogant, calculating and carefully choreographed politician with seductive messianic charm, but with what appear to be disturbingly shallow core values.

An unapologetic and habitual flip-flopper, pied-piping sloganeer and nimble flimflammer, this woefully inexperienced and self-consumed elitist with not a single significant accomplishment to his name has been openly endorsed by the Democratic Socialists of America, MoveOn.org, Daily Kos, Hamas and the Communist Party USA. Need I say more?

With his possible election to the White House by a starry-eyed and fawning electorate, so goes the America I have loved and for which so many Americans some of whom were my buddies, have shed their blood and given their lives to protect.

With what might well be a Democratic-Socialist takeover in November, I really have to wonder if heartland Americans will any longer feel that the alien country which ensues will be worth the blood of their precious sons and daughters.

Let there be no  mistake–America is more than ready for an Afro-American or female president. But, God-willling, it is not yet ready for a far left socialist.

Clearly, Sen. McCain, a moderate liberal Republican, is the only legitimate choice left before us.

The voters have a little over 90 days to responsibly sort it out. Let’s hope their objectivity–and not their emotions–rule the day.

Rapper Ludacris Does a Lil’ Ditty ‘Bout Obama

Yesterday, the Atlanta-based rapper Ludacris released a song touting Barack Obama’s candidacy.  Due to the subjective and offensive lyrics that this (and many other) song uses, it has gained denunciations from all around the political world. I’m sure Jim Lawrence is going to have a field day with this.

I’m going to link to a story that features the song lyrics, the Obama reaction and a video that plays the song (its on the left of the story).

*As a disclaimer the link does have some coarse language, including an offensive term for women.*

Ludacris Raps About Obama

Barack, Who exactly is saying those things?

Here is a humorous graphic that is on the drudge report.

Its based on a story that Obama is saying the Republicans are using fear tactics because Obama does not look like the other Presidents on our Money.   Obama keeps using this stealth race card argument.

Mr. Obama, who exactly is saying not to vote for you because you are black? I haven’t heard it from anyone. Where are these comments? I haven’t even seen anything on the Loony right wing blogs, short of the Aryan nation blogs. Those guys are nuts and we condemn them like all good Americans do.

What I want in a president is someone who will keep me safe, have policies that will not put their hand in my wallet every chance they get and maybe lower gas prices a little. So if any one of the  good people on either side  of the isle or ideological leaning knows of anybody saying do not vote for you because of your race, please let us know so we can condemn them as well.

Media again fails to report big Obama crowd was helped by free concert

Remember back in May when the media gushed and fawned over a huge crowd in Portland, Oregon? Supposedly people gathered to hear the words of Democrat presidential candidate Barack Obama. However the media chose not to report the free concert given before his speech?

How many of you know that’s exactly what happened in Berlin?  Two popular German acts, reggae artist Patrice and rock band Reamonn entertained the gathering audience.

Will the media report this, or just gush and fawn over the huge crowd again? Its apparent once again the main stream media will not tell you all the facts.

Reamonn’s website proudly tell us that they performed. Does anyone know if Patrice or Reamonn have any songs about communism like the Decemberists did in Portland?

Obama Skips Visit to Wounded Troops in Germany

This is old news, but I had to give the shout out to Election Geek for covering  the story about Barack Obama skipping a visit to wounded troops while playing President in Germany.

Note to Obama:  Pssst.  Visiting wounded servicemen and servicewomen who put their lives on the line defending our Country’s freedoms and the freedoms of others around the world is something else the President should do.  As a matter of fact, it’s the least he or she can do while overseas.

Here’s Election Geek’s entire post.

Obama: “Inappropriate” to Visit Wounded Troops
July 25th, 2008

“The senator decided out of respect for these servicemen and women that it would be inappropriate to make a stop to visit troops at a U.S. military facility as part of a trip funded by the campaign,” Gibbs said.

Senator Obama skipped a meeting with wounded troops in Germany saying it would be “inappropriate” to do so during the campaign portion of the trip “out of respect” for the troops. In response:

John McCain spokesman Brian Rogers said, “Barack Obama is wrong. It is never inappropriate to visit our men and women in the military.”

McCain’s Senate colleague Jon Kyl, R-Ariz., also took a shot at Obama.

“I noticed that Obama had plenty of time to shoot hoops … but he didn’t have the time to stop by (the Ramstein base),” he told FOX News.

How would it be any more inappropriate than meeting with government leaders while openly bashing the current administrations foreign policy and hinting that they would be better off working with him than the sitting President of the United States?

Nice story Election Geek.  I think Barack Obama needs to realize that being President isn’t just about giving eloquent speeches.  At some point, Obama will also need to start providing some sort of substance to his supposed policy initiatives.  Right now everyone is letting him off the hook.  The media is too busy heaping adoration on him instead of asking him appropriate questions about his policies.  Barack needs to learn, you can’t just talk, you gotta walk too.
