Message to Senate Republicans: “It’s Time for a New Leader”

Friends, I was in Washington, DC last week and got to talking with a fellow who deals with State Legislatures in the North.  It was brought up that I was a New Yorker so the topic of our valiant state senate came up.  This gentleman told me that he has seen some crazy things over his many years of dealing with dysfunctional state houses but our current Senate took the cake.  He understood why it was imperative that Republicans keep control but mentioned that they will never have an opportunity as long as the current-Majority is led by the current faction.  He stated that if we ever want to see real progress again, we need Republican leadership that can maintain Republican values yet still be able to work with Democrats.

Over the past couple days as I fumed about Caroline Kennedy, I began to ponder who would be able to effectively fill the role that this man thought would save our state.  This morning, it dawned on me.  The next Republican leader in the Senate should be…Joe Robach.  And believe it or not, I’m not the first to think this.  Commenter Saratoga Steve on Liz Benjamin’s blog, Daily Politics thinks Joe fits the mold too.

He is a Republican in a heavily Democratic district who withstood the shelling of a Liberal Elitist, with the backing of Don David Gantt in the year of Obama, 2008.  He is beloved by the constituents in his district, loved by the conservatives in Greece, the Hispanic and African American communities in the city, and traditional Democratic supporters in Brighton.  His district can be described as a microcosm of what this state is.

He was an elected Democrat in the Assembly for 10 years who, before an attempted coup, worked with Speaker Silver.  He then went over to the Republicans in the Senate but has continued to work with Democrats in the Assembly and Senate for the betterment of his constituents.  He has a good relationship with Governor Paterson (Paterson even called into his radio show in the midst of a dog fight of an election). Even while Senator Robach was a Democrat, he carried conservative values that defined his district and his party.

He can be a beacon to Assembly Republicans, who with their smallest minority ever, need a little bit of leadership from someone other than Jim Tedisco.  He had a working relationship with then-Governor Pataki and resisted the bribes of Spitzer to be bought out for a Cabinet position.  As Labor Committee Chairman, he knows how to get along with the Blue Collar men and women who do the heavy lifting, yet he also is close with college presidents like University of Rochester’s Joel Sigelman.

Most importantly, he’s one of us.  He’s not a part time representative who balances representing his constituents with his law firm.  He cares about the voices he speaks in Albany and does what he can to best serve them.  New York needs someone like Joe Robach to lead the Republicans as we find our way out of the woods.

Man-Made Global Warming Myth Unravelling–And None Too Soon

Dare attack the Eco-Movement high priests, and you may find yourself out in the cold.

Enter Dr. Will Happer: A Princeton University physicist and fellow of both the American Physical Society and the Nat’l Academy of Sciences, Dr. Happer had been Dir. of Energy Research (1990-1993) during the Clinton years until fired by Al Gore for “refusing to go along with Gore’s alarmism” about global warming. Dr. Happer asserts that “he had been told in 1993 that science was not going to intrude on policy.” He went on to point out that “fears about man-made global warming are unwarranted and are not based on good science. The earth’s climate is changing now, as it always has. There is no evidence that the changes differ in any qualitative way from those of the past.”

Continuing to scan a plethora of climate warming-related articles recently, it has become more than obvious that the man-made climate change myth is driven by ideological and political agendas, greed and power. Nothing more.

Blithely ballyhooed by the media, the man-made climate change mythology has been perpetrated by the effete liberal elites and their willing political cohorts in Washington. The short of it is that the “climate warming movement”, a religious and political movement in its own right, is probably every bit as menacing to the modern world as is Islamofascism, both being clear and present dangers to our liberty and our very way of life.

Dr. Happer joins a large number of respected scientists from around the world who are courageously countering the global warming hoax, and their ranks are growing exponentially. And while climate warming elites in America embark on what could be sweeping and costly programs to counter man-made global warming, Europe, a watershed of socialist drivel, is already backing off Kyoto and the economically debilitating cap-and-trade program as well. Will America learn from Europe’s mistakes? Right now, I’d say it’s a better than even chance it won’t. To paraphrase George Will, “The one surefire lesson of history is that we don’t ever seem to learn from it.”

No doubt, we’ve all heard that dissenting scientists around the world have been scorned, shunned, and their livelihoods often threatened for their apostasy. These folks are owed an immense debt of gratitude for bucking the opportunistic alarmists and for speaking up against global warming true-believers.

In addition to the 31,000 scientists from the Oregon Institute of Science & Medicine, about whom I wrote in a previous post, whose urgent petition to both the White House and Congress in May 2008 stated that “there is no convincing scientiific evidence that human release of CO2, methane and other greenhouse gases is causing, or will in the foreseeable future, cause, catastrophic heating of the Earth’s atmosphere and disruption of Earth’s climate,” in 2007 and 2008 over 650 additional climatologists and other reputable scientists from around the world have similarly and openly debunked the myth. Among them, and some of their more revealing comments, these notables as well:

  • Ivar Giaever, Nobel Prize Winner for Physics: “I am a skeptic. Global warming has become a religion.
  • Dr. Joanne Simpson, Atmospheric Scientist, formerly of NASA: “Since I am no longer receving funding, I can speak frankly…As a scientist, I remain skeptical of global warming.”
  • Dr. Kiminori Itoh, Environmental Physical Chemist: “When people come to know what the truth is, they will feel deceived by science and scientists.”
  • Dr. David Gee, Geologist, Uppsala University of Sweden: “For how many years must the planet cool before we begin to understand that the planet is not warming.”
  • James A. Pedden, Atmosphereic Physicist: “Many scientists are now searching for a way to back out quietly (from promoting climate warming fears), without having their professional careers ruined.”
  • Prof. Delgada Domingos, Environmental Scientist: “Creating an ideology pegged to carbon dioxide is dangerous nonsense. The present alarm on climate change is an instrument of social control.”
  • Dr. Takeda Kunihiko, Vice-Chancellor, Institute of Science & Technology, Chubu University: “Every scientist knows that CO2 emissions make absolutely no difference one way or another, but it doesn’t pay to say so.”
  • Dr. David Deming, Geophysicist & Assoc. Prof Arts & Sciences, Univ. of Oklahoma: “It is time to file this theory (global warming) in the ashbin of history. Alarmists are in denial and running for cover.”
  • Dr. Bruce West,, US Army Chief Scientist: “Sun, not man, is driving climate change.”
  • Dr. E. Wegman, Nat’l Academy of Sciences; Prof. H. Tenehes, Royal Netherlands Meteorological Institute; Dr. A Zichini, world-reknowned Physicist; Dr. Z. Jaworowski, world expert on ancient ice cores; Prof. T. V. Segalstad, University of Oslo’s Geological  Museum; and Dr. Claude Allegre, US Nat’l Academy of Sciences, have all joined in “rejecting the global warming theory as scientifically unsound, implausible, fraudulent.”

And these tidbits from scientific studies:

  • Europe’s cap-and-trade program has been a  disaster, yet an Obama Administration seems nonetheless committed to cap-and-trade. DUH……….
  • Since the release of High Priest Gore’s “Inconvenient Truth”, the earth’s temp has dropped 1/3 degree Celcius.
  • If the US reduces carbon emissions by 75% by 2050, it would result in just .013 degrees Celcius of
    “prevented” warming by 2050
  • Without India and China participation, even if the US, Europe & Japan were to take every vehicle off the road and shut down every power plant, atmospheric CO2 would still climb from the current 35 parts per million to 450 ppm by 2070.
  • Had the Lieberman-Warner cap-and-trade plan been implemented, economists determined it would cost the US economy $4-8 trillion in GNP and a net loss of 1 million jobs by 2030.

I thought Doug Giles of Townhall.com nicely summed it up this way: “The specious science of global warming establishes truth not by facts but through non-stop repetition.” Now, where have we seen that familiar strategy before? He goes on to say that “everything is being blamed on global warming from summer frost in Africa, snow storms in Las Vegas, freezing penguin chicks, poorly rising bread dough, forest fires in California, hurricanes, impoverished fashion houses and the recent economic downturn suffered by whorehouses in Beligium.” Amazing. More to the point, INSANE!

Could anything be plainer: on the matter of global warming, there is NO scientific consensus. Zilch. Zero. Nada. Thus, before our leadership commits our fast-dwindling fortunes to fighting windmills, shouldn’t the entire subject be openly, honestly and objectively debated by a transparent government commission of respected SCIENTISTS representing all points of view on the subject? Only then should we rationally contemplate draconian and intrusive spending programs to reduce our so-called “carbon footprint.” Is that really too  much to ask? Unfortunately for us all, in these politically correct days of “governing by soundbites & repetition” I suspect a majority of us will blindly follow like sheep to their slaughter…

Tricky Dick

No people, I’m not speaking about former President Richard Nixon, nor am I speaking of new movie “Frost/Nixon.” I’m talking about Buffalo Bills Head Coach, Dick Jauron. While I know this is a blog about politics, I believe this issue needs to be pressed by all who share it so it hopefully resonates to Ralph Wilson’s hearing aid. He and Bills Chief Operating Officer Russ Brandon (Fisher Grad) need to fire Dick as soon as humanly possible. I have been a lifelong Bills fan, but I don’t know how much longer I can handle the depressing state of this franchise. Watching Sunday’s game just pushed me to the edge of being able to rationalize why I allow myself to be a Bills fan. Should have been fired at halftime for the series that ended the 1st half. Why in God’s name would you call a HB Dive on the 12 yard line with 22 seconds left and no timeouts left? I just can’t comprehend this strategy. In game where they can beat the Patriots for the first time in 11 tries and knock them out of the playoff race, you don’t take ONE shot towards the endzone when losing 3-0. He is aware that there is no way to stop the clock unless Fast Freddie Jackson takes it to the house. 22 seconds minus however long the run takes (say 5 seconds) is no enough time to get the field goal unit out there and line it up with hurricane force winds a-blowin’. I think that was much more boneheaded than the Losman call in the Meadowlands. At least most of us could understand, not agree, but understand what his intention was. That wasn’t the case this time around. I think a Monore County coach can do a better job (paging you Rich Lipani).

Let’s put this season into perspective. Start 5-1 (Yay, Lets Go Buff-a-lo), then proceed to go 2-8, with wins over the Kansas City Chiefs and Denver Bronocos. 2-8? Are you freaking kidding me? The Jets just fired Eric Mangini because he went 1-4 over the last 5 games which would have equated over 5 more games to….2-8, Jauron and the Bills record over their last 10. Some coaches show some passion while on the sidelines, such as playoff-bound coaches Tony Sparano, Andy Reid, and Mike Tomlin. Whereas Dick Jauron has the passion of a rock, and not a very large one. He’s gone 7-9 for the past 3 years. In all of his years as an NFL Head Coach, he’s had one winning season. He is the triumph of mediocrity. He has one of the best running backs in the league yet wouldn’t use him in a game in Toronto against the future division champs. The play calling from he and Turk Shonert is as predictable as Church. It is simplistic and undeniably unexciting. Yes, when Ralph announces he will be retained, he’ll refer to the backing of the players. Well, maybe for a change, Mr. Wilson should concern himself with the folks who allow him to have a team believe. The Fans. The people who buy the tickets to watch this team underperform for 7 games a year, enjoying it while they can before the team moves to the TO are overwhelmingly in favor of showing Jauron a pink slip. Maybe Special Teams Coach Bobby April would be interest in the posistion. He shows passion, is creative with the devising of plays and most importantly he can’t be any worse.

Obama at war

While we celebrate our holidays and many look forward to the chosen one Obama taking office, Hell is breaking out in the Mid East. Israeli warplanes and combat helicopters pounded the Hamas-ruled Gaza Strip on Saturday, killing at least 155 people in the bloodiest day for Palestinians in more than 20 years of conflict. Hamas has promised to unleash Hell. Hamas Militants in the Gaza Strip responded with rocket salvoes.

The Prime Minister’s Office confirmed that Saturday’s strike was, in fact, the first step in Israel’s response to Hamas’ breach of the ceasefire:

Following Hamas’ violations of the truce agreement and the nonstop attacks on citizens in southern Israel, a decision was made on Wednesday, December 25, by the National Security Cabinet, to instruct the Israeli Defense Forces to take action in order to stop the rocket fire and terror attacks emanating form Gaza.

This will be Obama’s war. For those you who think he has Messianic powers to reign peace over us all, I sadly disagree. While I pray that you are right, I rather doubt it. Obama will be tested as his Vice President had suggested in the waning days of the campaign. President Obama will be forced to choose sides. Many Islamist’s hope that he will look towards them and support them. He can not, when push comes to shove he will choose Israel. Barack Obama at that point be forced to show the public that he understands what President Bush understood. That Islamic Militants are not our friends, and mean only to harm us.

Happy Birthday MonroeRising.com

Happy Birthday From the president electHard to believe that it has been one year we have been at MonroeRising.com. In this year we have had many interesting posts that you would have never seen in the liberal blogs, or the local newspapers.

We have rapidly grown from a few bloggers and commentors, to the many you have read over the last year. Please enjoy a piece of birthday cake with us as we look forward to the next year, and many more to come.

Excuse My Rant

I need to vent about a couple of things.

First, I have been struck by the across-the-board criticism of Gov. Paterson’s budget proposal. Don’t misunderstand me, I have many reservations about it, but most of those regard increased taxes, like the “Obesity Tax”. I think many of the spending cuts are justified. But just about every advocacy group has attacked the plan as unfair to its constituents. It seems that the only people who haven’t ripped the plan are Paterson himself and Caroline Kennedy.

Seriously, though, it’s a bit disturbing to hear criticism from all corners. “Everyone” agrees that the State Government is “too expensive”. We all “agree” that spending cuts must be made. Apparently, though, that’s where the agreement stops. Every group seems to be saying that their piece of the budget is vital and can’t be reduced. So once again we will see the battle of the special interests, vying for a bigger share of Albany’s largess. Thus, the cycle of spending continues. With the GOP gone from the Senate, there may be some different interests served, but State spending is likely to continue only moderately (if at all) abated.

The second thing that bothers me is the fact that politicians can say almost anything without fear of contradiction. Political speech has become little more than pandering and spin, yet the media simply eat it up without a whimper. President Bush announces the auto bail-out by saying that bankruptcy would be “disorderly”. He further says that if the auto companies don’t make real changes by March, they will face bankruptcy. Sure they will! Everyone in the room knows that the next Congress and President will never force the UAW to make concessions, thus after March 31st, more money will be forthcoming from the Treasury. The media report Bush’s story with total credulity. Amazing.

This is commonplace today. I’m sure we have all seen or heard examples of this phenomenon. If the media like the story (or the story-teller), they will report it unadulterated and without question or criticism. Facts that are contrary to the story-line are simply ignored. This is a failure of grave proportion. The media is supposed to be the source of information that allows citizens to make rational choices and decisions about their government. Instead of challenging our leaders when they make statements which strain credibility, make promises which can’t (or won’t) be kept, or which obviously place political considerations ahead of policy concerns, the media has become an accomplice, abetting this malfeasance by putting window-dressing around it.

The Founding Fathers would be dismayed.

Public Employee Unions Balk At Having Members Pay Their Fair Share

The New York Times had an interesting piece on the Governor’s proposal to change New York State’s pension system — one of the most generous in the nation, in response to the current budget crisis.

From that piece:

Under the proposals the governor made last week, nonuniformed state and local government workers hired after the legislation was passed would, generally, pay 3 percent from the day they were hired until the day they retired. They would have to be at least age 62 to draw pension benefits.

The governor also offered separate provisions for uniformed New York City workers, who were not covered by the 1976 changes.

Uniformed workers — police officers, firefighters, correction officers and sanitation workers — hired in the future would have to work for 25 years and be 50 to qualify for full pensions. They can now retire with full pensions after 20 years, regardless of age.

And new city uniformed employees would have to contribute 5 percent of their salaries until they have 25 years of service — a significant increase above what current workers pay.

Mr. Paterson said the changes were essential. “We’ve made too many promises and asked for too few sacrifices,” he said.

The defined benefit pension plan went the way of the horse and buggy in every sector of employment, except for government.  In New York, public employees are paid more than their private sector counterparts, (who also happen to be the people footingthe bill for their generous pension plan) and need to realize it is time for them to realize that somethings gotta give.

Take the example of the uniformed employee (police and fire).  Someone hired at 20 can work for 20 years, retire with half pay, make no contribution to their pension, have their employer pay their health insurance for the next 40 years, and start a second career.

Let’s hope the Governor is able to force some changes and bring some sanity to a system that is out of control!

Ahnold for President? JDelaney is on to something.

I have read every one of the 1002 entries in this blog (congrats to Monroerising.com) and one of my favorite posters is JDelaney. He has been driving home the fact that President Elect Barack Hussein Obama has never produced his birth certificate. In his last post on the subject, Tiberius made a comment that this could set a precedent and give us President Ahnold. Well it looks like that could become a movement. Sunday on 60 minutes Arnold said he would like to be President. Tiberius had it right, why bother trying to change the constitution, just claim that it was an error and he was never really born in Austria. Then refuse to produce his birth certificate and accuse anyone who asks for it of wearing tinfoil hats and dismiss them as conspiracy theory nuts. He could say he was young at the time, doesn’t remember and believes he was born in America, then moved to Austria.  Obama excused his involvement with William Ayers by saying he was only 8 years old at the time. Somehow this excused his involvement with a man who trampled on the American flag and said he did not bomb enough when Obama was 40 years old.

1001 Posts and Goin’ Strong!

Just a quick note to congratulate Monroerising and its participants for the milestone 1001 posts! No small feat, for sure. A stupendous achievement, indeed!

But, I also want to thank Monroerising for continuing to provide a reliable refuge for those who still cherish conservative American values and viewpoints.

In the short time I’ve been posting here and reading others’ posts, I’ve learned much and, in the process, have been buoyed by the  knowledge that there are still bedrock Americans out there doing what they can to keep both our community and country safe, productive and on an even keel. You all deserve a great deal of credit for that!

Thanks to all of you who have contributed so much time and effort to bringing clarity, integrity and objectivity to the issues before us. Please keep up the good fight!

Finally, I want to wish all of you a very Merry Christmas and a productive New Year of peace, good health and happiness.

Someone Is Violating The Law

Boy, I’ll bet you are just waiting on the edge of your seat eagerly anticipating just who I could possibly be talking about.  Well guess what…

It’s probably you.

An avid reader passed this along.  It’s good to know that people are able to make careers out of quelling the celebrations of people of faith.  Remember, only CERTAIN people are allowed to openly express themselves.  People of faith are excluded.  I don’t care what faith celebrate you observe, this affects ALL of them.  Btw, where do I get one of those Diversity and Inclusion jobs?

CHRISTMAS IN THE WORKPLACE

“Cindy Wigglesworth, founder of Conscious Pursuits, says Christmas represents a ‘challenge’ to employers. The so-called challenge is how to have ‘an enthused workforce and be faith-friendly and faith-neutral and not violate any laws.’ She does not say what laws might be violated, but apparently she wants to guard against the prospect of someone calling 911. In any event, she has a mind of her own: ‘We’d much rather bring your child to work than bring your faith to work. We have not had a safe way to talk about faith.’ But what if your child comes to work and tells everyone ‘Merry Christmas’? Isn’t that dangerous?

“Dawn Frazier-Bohnert works at a global consulting firm, and she advises employers not to hold a Christmas party-call it a ‘year-end’ bash, instead. She recommends ‘vegetarian alternatives’ at the dinner, ‘and be conscious that serving alcohol at parties might make some employees uncomfortable.’ There’s the rub: those who want to booze it up will also feel uncomfortable if the purists prevail. Flasks might work.

“Simma Lieberman specializes in ‘Diversity and Inclusion,’ and it shows: she wants us to celebrate ‘Diwali,’ along with non-Hindu holidays. But, she cautions, ‘Make sure your holiday party isn’t a Christmas party in disguise.’ Good idea. However, she does not say what to do if some smart aleck asks what holiday is being celebrated at Christmastime.

“Sondra Thiederman is another ‘Diversity’ expert, and she warns against Christmas decorations, recommending instead ‘flowers, balloons, candles and snowflakes.’ She also counsels against Christmas songs, suggesting ‘historical music, the big bands and the sounds of the ‘40s.’ No rap or heavy metal?

“Viacom has the best house rule: ‘Live trees solely for the purpose of a holiday decoration are not permitted.’ Those fake ones are okay.

Catholic League president Bill Donohue makes this valid point:

“So this is what our troops are defending in Iraq-the right of Anti-Christmas Czars to promote thought control in America.”

Apparently.
