As we watch and wait to see exactly what health care “reform” will finally eek its way out of the hallowed halls of government we can be sure that whatever the final result the government will have its hands all over it.

Will we see another big and useless bureaucracy? Probably.

Will we lose the freedom of choice in who we want to be our provider? Some will most likely.

Will we end up hitting the taxpayers with yet another welfare program that we cannot afford in the form of a public option for health insurance? You betcha!

Will the level of care we have in this nation decrease because of it? YES!

What can we do? Turn to the Free Market and ask our Reps. to do the same. The free market has solutions for the health care problem that if implemented would put us on the road toward real reform in health care.

So if we…

1. Eliminate all licensing requirements for medical schools, hospitals, pharmacies, and medical doctors and other health care personnel.

2. Eliminate all government restrictions on the production and sale of pharmaceutical products and medical devices. (end the FDA)

3. Deregulate the health insurance industry.

4. Eliminate all subsidies to the sick or unhealthy.

…we would begin to see the light at the end of the tunnel that leads us into more freedom, more choice, better care, less government, lower taxes and ultimately a more secure future for the health of our nation.

The entire article that originally posted these solutions to the problem is on the web at the Mises Institute the article which was written for the Free Market in April of 1993 lays out paragraph by paragraph what each of the above listed points would mean for health care in the USA if we were brave enough to return to the core of who we are and let market principles guide us into the future.
