I’m beginning to wonder if State Senate Democrats are doing this on purpose.
In a desperate effort to find some kind of support from anyone in New York, Governor David Paterson added gay marriage to the list of things he wanted the senate to consider in addition to yet another deficit reduction plan to once again close the state’s budget deficit.
It’s bad enough that the Democrat leadership in this state can’t actually govern and find a way to get our financial house in order.
Now, when state government should be focusing on how to in fact do that, Paterson throws gay marriage into the mix. You tell me. What has been getting more play in the media since he brought it up? What the hell are our priorities for God’s sake!
Well true to form the State Senate Dems have failed to even get gay marriage on the docket. Liz Benjamin at The Daily Politics is reporting that Senate Democrats will not be bringing gay marriage to the floor for a vote as part of today’s session. Her update says they’re “talking about it” behind closed doors. I swear that’s all Democrat electeds do is “talk” and prove time and time again that they are incapable of actually governing.
It looks like Empire State Pride Agenda is getting pissed. From Liz’s post:
Another wrinkle is the tension between Duane and Empire State Pride Agenda Executive Director Alan Van Capelle, who called Duane out and threatened primaries in retaliation for inaction on marriage during a fiery speech at the organization’s annual dinner.
Van Capelle and his cadre of lobbyists and allies are still working feverishly in hopes of pushing this long-awaited measure over the finish line – or, at hte very least, getting it to the floor.
Senate Democrats still don’t have the votes necessary to pass gay marriage, something pro-traditional marriage supporters are very happy about. The Dems tried desperately to lay the blame for this at the door of Senate Republicans, which is perhaps the stupidest thing that I’ve ever heard. The GOP didn’t promise the gay community that they’d deliver gay marriage – the Senate Dems did. The GOP didn’t take huge amounts of gay lobby money in exchange for the promise of delivering gay marriage – the Senate Dems did. The GOP didn’t promise the LGBT community that they’d bring it to the floor for a vote – the Senate Dems did.
Although now, the GOP has advocated that the bill be brought forward for an up or down vote. Senate GOP leader Dean Skelos has even openly stated GOP members are free to vote their conscience on the matter. Heck, it looks like the Senate GOP is the only side being honest with people on both sides of this issue.
The Senate Democrats continue to break 2008 election year promises. Remember when they said they wouldn’t raise fees and taxes on middle class taxpayers? How’s that one working out right now?
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. Senate Democrats have no intention of bringing gay marriage up for a vote. If they do and it fails then they’ve shown themselves to be what we here already know they are – liars. That and they’ll have really pissed of a major source of campaign funds going into next year’s elections. If they bring it to the floor and it passes, then there’s no reason for the gay lobby to pump millions in campaign funds into democrat coffers for next year’s elections.
No, what the Senate democrats are hoping is to continue to string the gay lobby along into next year claiming that if they get enough money from them to pick up a few more seats with professed “gay marriage” candidates, then gay marriage will pass smoothly… in 2011.
If that doesn’t work out, then rinse and repeat.
The gay lobby and the LGBT community are being played for a bunch of suckers by the State Senate Democrats.
The real question now is, how long will they allow this to continue?
