Sorry, Think, I just don't buy that. And I certainly don't defend the GOP party-first strategists for cutting such a deal either. I say Principle and Country First come what may. Call me a foolish idealist, but ultimately that's the only way America's greatness can be restored. I'll honor and respect principle over party politics any day. Scozaffava is a good example of party politics screwing things up. No thanks. No more. Is Cao a better choice than a Democrat? Who knows. If his Democratic opponent in 2010 is a Conservative Democrat--a rare breed these days--I'd give him a fair hearing no matter what the party machine tells me. Principle, my man. We've got to get back to principle, the Constitution and the Country First! But, I do respect and understand your viewpoint, of course.

Jim

Don't be so hard on Steven (Anh) Cao. He was ready to vote against it and would have if his vote made a difference. He had an agreement with the party to hold his vote out until Pelosi got 218. (in fact he was vote number 219) I am fine with this guy getting re-elected in a district that is 75% democrat (William Jeffersons district). As long as we have a political system you are never going to remove politics.

Other area reps voted as such

Eric Massa Voted No, thank you Mr. Massa

Dan Maffei Votes Yes, lets vote him out now its possible

Louise Slaughter Yes, Would Like to vote her out but little chance

Bill Owens Voted Yes, just last week won his district promising he would vote against any bill with a public option.

Scott Murphy Voted No thank you Mr Murphy.

It is obvious Mr Massa and Mr Murphy are democrats that want to get re-elected. They are in Republican districts. Mr. Owens sold his soul fast, all it took was one visit with Obama.

My Guess is when the redistrict they will attempt to help Owens and will carve up Murphy's and Massas's

Excellent and informative post, Jesse. Yes, I too am impressed with Mr. Lee. But being the wary cynic I am, I do pray that Mr. Lee continues to resist that me-first politics to which so many of his congressional colleagues have succumbed. Not an easy challenge for any man these days.

I guess you heard that Congressman Anh Cao, a Viet-American from Louisiana, was the only Republican who voted for the measure. My Asian-American friends here are equally offended. Faced with a heavily Democratic district, Mr. Cao's the type of me-first politician the country no longer needs in these perilous times. So very disappointing, and so much for duty, honor and country.
