Friends, I know its been awhile since I last posted here on MR, but I felt it was important to log back on a share a few post election thoughts.

On a national level, I cannot believe how badly the Republican party once again screwed up a New York Congressional Election.  On June 30th, I wrote that we need to not make the mistakes this time around.  Low and behold, unsurprisingly this didn’t happen, in fact we found a way to make even more, disgustingly stupid mistakes.  The Republican party used to be a big tent apparatus.  We welcomed a broad array of individuals to be members of the Grand Ole Party and united under the banner of being Republican and the need for smaller, responsible government and the ideals of liberty.  However, the far-Right once again screwed over moderation.  I’m all for conservative values, however, we need to tout the candidates who can win.  While Dede Scozzafava may have been on the closer or left of center, she was still a Republican, and a Republican in a state where there are too few in the Congressional delegation.  Doug Hoffman did little to inspire the confidence of being a federal representative.  The Republican Party should be ashamed of the performance in the 23rd and the spinelessness of deserting Scozzafava when she faced adversity is shameful.  While she didn’t exactly help herself, she certainly didn’t deserve to be thrown under the bus while she was still in the race.

In both New Jersey and Virgina, the voters there showed that they are fed up with the era of big government that is the trademark of President Obama and his cohorts.  By winning by nearly 20%, the Virgina Governor-Elect Bob McDonnell showed that once again Virgina will not fall victim to being preyed upon by Liberal idealogues who believe that government control over all facets of life is proper. The voters in our neighbor to the south, New Jersey showed that they know what it takes to throw off the yoke of corrupt rule by the Democrats, led by soon to be former Governor Corzine.  Chris Christie will bring sensible and honorable governance to a state that sadly needs it.
On a local level, one of the best public officials to serve our county was reelected.  The residents of Monroe County once again chose Sheriff O’Flynn to direct the county police force.  As has been shown time and time again in races recently, proven performance overcame a vengeful Democratic candidate who selfishly sought public office for themselves rather then to serve the people.  Republicans took control of the Town of Irondequoit, kept the Legislature and had all their judicial candidates elected, ensuring adequate justice for those criminals who continually strike fear into our communities, especially within the city limits.  But strikingly, the Town of Greece, will remain in Republican hands.  The Greece Democrats assembled what may have been the most unqualified ticket in local election history during a time when they had a real, honest to goodness chance at winning the Supervisor position and a couple town board seats.  The plight of this doomed tickets had been followed here on MR so I don’t need to elaborate but to show how out of touch this ticket was even with their own base.  Clearly, “a clean sweep” it was not.
