Unable to find real people to back up their charges, Monroe County Democrats actually sent out mailings using stock photos available on the internet and claimed they were real Monroe County Republicans fed up with the local GOP.

Guess what?  They were found unfair.  From the Democrat and Chronicle:

The problem the committee had was with the quotes, which suggested the women were local Republicans. Use of stock images in campaign advertising is a common practice in both parties.

“We have removed the punctuation marks, which we respectfully disagree with them on, and are resending the piece,” said county Democratic Chairman Joseph Morelle.

(snip)

The rulings were decided Wednesday by the committee, a nonpartisan organization organized by the League of Women Voters and the Interfaith Alliance of Rochester:

The mailer with the stock photos was found to be in violation of the part of the pledge that says quotations or images will not be taken out of context or be used to misrepresent the other candidate or the other candidate’s message.

“They couldn’t find one Republican to attribute those statements to,” said county Republican Chairman William Reilich.

Almost 20 years in Albany is influenced Morelle’s sense of right and wrong.  He disagree’s that made up quotes and attributing them to people that don’t exist is wrong.  Over the top tactics like this might work in Albany, but I’m betting that they back fire here in Monroe County.

My prediction — all the mud thrown by Morelle and Company help local Republicans keep the majority.
