I guess they call it the Democrat and Chronicle for a reason.  This morning’s editorial endorsements continue the anti-Republican theme of their newspaper coverage.  I’ll point out my concerns starting with the most offensive first.

In Penfield the endorsed Margaret Travett over Tony LaFountain for Supervisor. Travett has lived in Penfield for 5 years and was a portfolio manager for JP Morgan Chase (LaFountain has underwear that has lived in Penfield longer than that).

They had this to say about her:

People who know her said she is highly ethical, open to new ideas and inclusive. She has pledged to work for reform of the state government pension system and promises to decline her pension if elected. She also promises an exhaustive review of the budget to find expense savings.

People who know her, right.  This isn’t a big deal, I’m sure LaFountain is going to win big, but wow, talk about being off base.

Then how about Gates?  They picked Mark McInteeover Mark Assini for Supervisor.  McIntee, the former lumber salesman for 84 Lumber who has now moved on to a sales position at Morse Sash and Door, impressed the editorial board with innovative ideas like this:

asking department heads to come up with cost-saving ideas.

McIntee also expressed concern about town employee salaries; he voted against raises for certain workers.

Wow, asking department heads to come up with cost savings — I bet that hasn’t been done before.  And the salaries he voted against, they failed to point out that the Supervisor’s raise wasn’t one of them.

I wonder why he didn’t vote against that.  Hey wait, maybe it was because he was running for the position and he wanted more money for himself!

Much like Penfield, I don’t think their endorsement in Gates matters much.  Assini, like LaFountain should win this one without a problem.

But boy, I’m starting to think the Republican’s made a tactical mistake participating in this sham of a process.  Where to you think they are going to come down in the races for county legislator?  I’m betting that the Democrats running in any competitive seat get the endorsement and favorable quotes that will coming to a mail box near you very soon.
