Democrat County Legislator Carrie Andrews shouldn’t be taking her re-election for granted.  Our friends at over at Mustard Street broke some major news today.

It looks like Andrews has an opponent this year.  Big deal right?  Some republican who is going to get their butt kicked because the district is overwhelmingly loaded with registered Democrats.  Not so.

It looks like another Democrat thinks Ms. Andrews isn’t representing the people all that well and is challenging her in a primary.  Here’s a clip from Fat Tony’s post:

Mingya, this is big. County Legislator Carrie Andrews’ campaign is on life support. Someone filed petitions against her for a Democratic Primary and she didn’t know anything about it until she got a phone call from the Board of Elections — a real sign that she has very limited contact and connection with the people she represents.

Compounding Andrews’ problems is the fact that she didn’t collect as many signatures from district residents as she should have.  Either she’s lazy or voters refused to sign for some reason.  One hundred over doesn’t make her a lock.  If her opponent can show that enough are no good (the signer isn’t a Democrat, isn’t registered at all, the signature was forged, her opponent obtained the signature first, or any number of other legitimate reasons), Andrews could get booted from the ballot for not qualifying.  Wouldn’t THAT be something.

Unfortunately, in the City of Rochester this is where the real battle takes place.  Hopefully some day, City residents will make the connection between poor service and the fact that they are represented solely by Democrats.

As we learn more we’ll pass it along.  This will surely be a primary campaign to watch this year.
