(Buffalo) – Disgusted by what he calls “an unprecedented level of arrogance” from some state elected officials, community activist Rus Thompson is planning to protest a fundraiser for the New York State Democratic Senate Campaign Committee outside of one of Buffalo’s most prominent restaurants to express his contempt.

“For five weeks, state government was brought to a grinding halt because our state ‘leaders’ squabbled like 8 year-olds in a school yard. Actually, I take that back – it’s an insult to 8 year-olds. Now they have the audacity to come into Buffalo and hold a $5,000 per person event? Who on God’s green earth would even think of rewarding these people for their actions by attending such an affair?”

The fundraiser, scheduled for Friday at noon at the Buffalo Chophouse, is being sponsored by Buffalo-area Senators Antoine Thompson and William Stachowski. Scheduled guests include Senator Malcolm Smith, Senate Temporary President and Senator John Sampson, the Democratic Conference Leader.

“The two special guests alone shows how beholden to New York City interests Bill Stachowski and Antoine Thompson are”, said Thompson. “There aren’t any decent guests from Western New York they can invite as guest? It’s so disappointing that they have to reach all the way into the gutters of New York City to find people to come to Buffalo so they can raise money.”

Thompson noted several pieces of legislation that both Stachowski and Thompson have supported that have been damaging to Western New York. “These two have conspired to pass the MTA tax, cancel the STAR rebate check, support a staggering increase in the utility tax and voted yes on the convenience store tax. All of these actions directly or indirectly lead to increased expenses for the homeowners and business of our region.”

Thompson went on to state that volunteers will be videotaping attendees of the fundraiser. “If people think they will be able to come and go without being noticed, they’re wrong. We plan to have multiple video cameras stationed around the event, and will then pout that footage on Youtube. If you attend this event, which means you support the actions of these four individuals, you should hang your head in shame”, said Thompson.

Volunteers are asked to be at the Chophouse, located at 282 Franklin Street, by 11:30AM on Friday morning.
