Why do I keep praying for the day that separating New York City and Upstate NY becomes a reality?
Here’s the story from Liz Benjamin in The Daily Politics about Democrat NYC Councilman Miguel Martinez resigning his seat as a result of the probe into the City Council’s slush fund scandal.
In March, a nonprofit connection to Martinez – the Upper Manhattan Council Assisting Neighbors – was raided by the DOI. Martinez’s sister, Maria Martinez, is a member of UCAN’s board.
The organization has been allocated more than $1 million worth of taxpayer funds since 2006 – much of which was directed by Martinez – although the Council yanked its funding in April as the DOI investigation intensified.
I pulled this snippet from a March Daily News story which describes the corruption:
The city Department of Investigation is probing the City Council slush fund scandal, which centers around funds assigned to fictional nonprofits that held money for later distribution to real groups.
And finally, here’s a very accurate blog comment on this story:
UCAN……..ACORN, both cut from the same cloth. I bet if anyone had questioned UCAN a year ago they would have been labeled racist, right wing nut jobs. These crooked community organizations are used as fronts for political and financial gain.
True. True.
It’s the latest tactic from the left – don’t debate or defend the validity of the claim against you… just aggressively attack the person and the comment and then label them as racist and hateful.
We get that all the time. It doesn’t bother us. We just laugh at those who seem to be filled with so much anger who go and label someone else a hater. We also know that to be so aggressively attacked, we must be doing something right or else the liberal/progressive/radicals would just ignore us.
