Friends, the NY Daily News reported yesterday, that before St. Patrick’s Day, President Obama tried to entice Long Island GOP Congressman Peter King into abandoning his constituents and take the job as the administrations Ambassador to Ireland. Of course, the job has since been filled by Pittsburgh Steelers owner Dan Rooney (maybe why their ceremony got preferential treatment over li’l kids who just wanted a tour of the White House).

By turning down this position, King surprised many who believe that he “loves Ireland almost as much as he loves America.”  King was a key part of negotiating a peace treaty between the Catholics and Protestants during the bloody conflict in Northern Ireland.  As a frequent visitor to the Emerald Isle, many people, including WH Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel, believed that King would jump at a shot to take the diplomatic positing rather than right for his political life in 2010 re-election.

Yet, according to Congressman King, he is thinking very seriously of not seeking re-election anyways. Instead, he has his sights set on running and beating appointed junior Senator, Kirsten Gillibrand.  As a fiery moderate, in state the does have many, King would have a legitimate shot a knocking off the darling of the Democratic establishment off her high horse.

This once again shows that President Obama will not stop at nothing to eliminate moderates from the Republican fold.  By trying to indoctirinate them into buying the myth of the B.O. , the White House and its political hacks are seeking to eliminate a faction of elected moderates.  Thankfully, Congressman King rebuffed them and remains committed to his constituents.  However, Congressman Chris Lee, shouldn’t get too comfortable, I’m sure an offer from the administration will coming soon…
