Earlier I wrote a post and did not mean to disparage day labourers. Believe it or not I am actually a plumber, my name is not Joe though. I admired the real Joe the Plumber because I did see myself in him. I have a small plumbing business that was hanging in there until the economy started to fall apart. I found a specialty in finish plumbing with high end customers who wanted to remodel bathrooms and kitchens. I pretty much throw every dollar back into the business. I have a Plumbing License and hire a journeyman, a couple of apprentices and a salesman. Every dollar that I spend not reinvesting in the business is a dollar that I could have spent that provides someone else a job. I don’t care if it’s employment, tools, supplies or maintenance on vehicles.
Klem I am sorry if you did not understand my analogy, the point I was trying to get across is that when the government decides to spread the wealth, they are taking it from hard working people like me and my crew. Many of my clients are the surgeons of the world, if they have less because they spend more in taxes they will need to decide whether they want to put a new vanity sink in or just do with what they have. I do planning as well, its based on projections of keeping my guys busy at least 4 days a week. I have no college education just an understanding of my business and the money that is available to me. I really don’t care about the states fiscal deficit, I have my own issues and want to keep my people and myself working. If the state takes an extra $3500 from me next year to pay for their poor management, I will not buy the sewer camera I wanted. Then that’s one less job I could bid on, just a little bit harder for the manufacturer and the guy in the tool shop that is trying to sell it to me. If enough of us do that, the guy at the tool shop will lose his job as well and then people who work in the factory. So people can talk about all the theory they want. In the meantime I have no work today, so here I am blogging instead of providing.
