When you political Godfather is setting records for lowest popularity ratings in history and your appointment is a big reason why, it’s only natural that people would considering running against you.
According to the New York Times:
ALBANY — In a sign that Kirsten E. Gillibrand, the newly appointed United States senator, has yet to win over her party’s base downstate, the Manhattan borough president said Wednesday that he was considering challenging her in the Democratic primary next year.
Scott M. Stringer, the Manhattan borough president, said he has been talking with political advisers about whether to take on Ms. Gillibrand, a former congresswoman from the Albany area.

Several members of the state’s delegation in the House are considering bids, though they would have to take the risk of giving up their seats to run. Representative Carolyn B. Maloney, a Manhattan Democrat, said Wednesday that she was “seriously considering it,” adding, “Many people have called me and asked me to run.”
Representative Carolyn McCarthy, a Long Island Democrat, also said she might run, citing her disagreements with Ms. Gillibrand’s views on guns. And Representative Steve Israel is said to be considering a run. Ms. Maloney and Mr. Israel were considered but passed over by the governor in the Senate selection process.

Douglas A. Muzzio, professor of public affairs at Baruch College, said Ms. Gillibrand “has a lot of work to do because her political profile certainly doesn’t match the downstate profile.” But he added that she was a determined campaigner who could benefit if several liberal candidates from New York City split the downstate vote.
“My gut tells me that running a statewide campaign from the Manhattan borough president’s office would be extraordinarily difficult,” he said. “How does he appeal to people in Plattsburgh, Kingston, Jamestown?”
On the other hand, Lee M. Miringoff, director of the Marist polling institute, said, “New York City and the suburbs are not her strength, and that’s where the lion’s share of the Democratic primary vote comes from.”
Well, you can always count on the Democrat to keep things interesting!
