Barack Obama’s march to the right is pleasing conservatives and confusing liberals.

Obama’s victory was predicated on painting Bush as a Hoover/Nixon redux. He may do more for Bush’s reputation that anyone ever imagined. And the Mumbai mess will only emphasize all this, as groups of old 9/11-era experts who used to warn us about radical Islam, then, in the subsequent peace at home, screamed that Bush fabricated a war against terror. Now in a new manifestation are paraded once more out to warn us about? Why, yes, radical Islam!

With a new threat of scary terrorist’s and what appears to be Joe Biden’s prophecy of being tested in the first 6 months will Obama want to shut down Gitmo? Will listening in on terrorist phone calls suddenly be a proper thing to do?

Obama is a smart man and has a brilliant strategy that Machiavelli himself would be proud of. By co-opting centrist and conservatives in his cabinet, he can advance a leftist agenda much more effectively and fend off attacks from the conservatives.

Review what Obama actually promised and you will learn he actually ran a centrist campaign; the problem is that too many liberals simply projected their own agendas on him, and saw what they wished rather than what was there.

The end result will be a much more conservative country than the liberals wanted and a much more liberal country than the conservatives hoped for.
