Murder Rate Higher in Chicago than Soldiers Killed in Iraq
The below is from an article from the Chicago Tribune
Violent crime continued to rise in Chicago after a deadly July 2008 in which 62 people were killed, according to unofficial numbers provided by a police source.
That’s more deaths than the number of Soldiers killed in Iraq since May of this year. I have to ask why can’t Barrack Obama do something right in his home town of Chicago? He is suppose to be a community organizer with great skills. If he could talk murderous thugs in Iran out of doing their heinous deeds, why can’t he work with the people in Chicago to decrease their murder rate in a town that he knows so well?
It would be a phenomenal campaign event to spend a week in Chicago and show that he could stop the murders in his home town. If he went to Chicago and got all the thugs and gang members together and have them stop killing each other for just one week, I would declare him the Savior that he wants us to believe that he is and vote for him myself!

This isn’t a political response, just a factual one. There is a major hole in your argument. There are about 140,000 American troops in Iraq; there are about 3 million people in Chicago. If we use the same time frame for the 62 murders (though the time frame is longer in the Iraq example you give), an American soldier is about 21 times more likely to die in Iraq. Even with the slightly extended time frame for the 62 Iraq killings, the comparison still doesn’t work if you want to talk about murder “rates.” If you want to talk sheer numbers, which is a fairly worthless exercise, then you can use your example.
This isn’t a political or factual response, just a human one. My Comments are usually flippant sarcastic or satirical. This one was difficult to make because of the human tragedy in both Iraq and Chicago. It attempts to point out policies and beliefs like that of Obama’s are not making life better as they want to make you think.
The sad fact remains that Obama’s very own city has a terrible murder rate that is rising, despite his leadership there. A tragic fact in America is that all major cities have high murder rates that go up year after year. One thing most American cities have in common is Democrat Mayors, Democrat City councils, Democrat police chiefs and Democrat Community organizers. One exception in recent years was when Rudy Guliani became Mayor of New York, the murder and crime rates went down.
bull tinkle … I like the justification for murder. I think that you fail to get the point. It’s not the simply one to one ratio. It’s an analogy that Obama is claiming to be able to talk down terriorist, but he can’t talk down local criminals in his own town. Also, last I checked there was not a WAR going on in Chicago. Nice try though.

Thank you, that is the point sorry if I did not get it across clearly. Some unfortunate people who live in the parts of Chicago that Obama worked with may feel like its a war.
