“Station Will Make Ugly Welcome Mat”
This was an interesting letter to the editor in today’s D&C. Enjoy!
The mayor of Rochester and downtown planning and zoning commissions should think hard before allowing a property owned by Assemblyman David Gantt to become a Fastrac gas station. Especially when with a little ingenuity, this empty property on Main Street can be poised to be a gateway to the city. Perhaps someone could think outside of the box with this one and not go for the easy, convenient answer.
Of course, you can make all sorts of arguments for the convenience the station and its mini-market can offer. But what sort of convenience are you offering in a $4 roll of paper towels, and all the soda and potato chips you could ever want? In this era of rising gas prices and seriously alarming obesity rates, is this something the city really needs on that property? We should dare to hope that a state assemblyman from our area would be more forward-thinking in his private business dealings that ultimately would affect us all.

When Gantt submits the zoning ordinance, the city should answer it by saying:
“That’s for us to know and you to find out”
Mayor Duffy is very popular right now. He should stay as far away as possible from corrupt Assemblyman David Gantt. Gantt opposed Duffy’s run for mayor and wil look to undermine Bob’s tenure in elected office.
Is this corner near that street where Gantt owns all of the homes? It’s just a matter of time before Duffy and Morelle pull the plug on Gantt. Although I’ll miss him.
He’s been helping Republicans get elected around here for years!
