Air America, the progressive radio network, has been dropped by WROC-AM (950) in favor of programming supplied by ESPN sports talk.

Air America features liberal talk shows hosted by Thom Hartmann, Rachel Maddow and Lockport native Stephanie Miller, who held down the morning slot. WROC also used some non-Air America personalities, such as noon to 3 p.m. host Ed Schultz.

“It was strictly a ratings-revenue move for us. We felt it would align more with our goals here in Rochester,” he said. While progressive radio in some markets has drawn better ratings than some of its conservative counterparts, particularly Schultz’s show, in Rochester “it didn’t deliver the revenue ratings to keep it alive,” said John Thomas, operations manager at Entercom Rochester.

This should not come as a shock to many people in my opinion.  As this happens, there have been reports from the House and Senate about the Fair Doctrine, which would basically silence the Republican and Conversative talk shows on the radio.

As for John Thomas’ quote, “it was strictly a ratings-revenue move for us,” I find it funny that conservative talk shows such as Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity have some of the highest ratings on talk radio.  On the flip side of it all, there have been reports that The New York Times is losing roughly $1million dollars a day due to lack of sales.  They claim it is technology like the Internet and 24 hour news channels pushing them out the door.  Maybe it is the far-left journalism that is being pushed from the very top of the organization that is driving people away.
