The Liberals Better Be Careful With Sarah Palin
The Politico has a great piece on Sarah Palin’s selection as John McCain’s running mate. Liberal hypocrites are all over this woman for being human. If they aren’t careful, their hatred for Republicans will backfire during this campaign.
So far — and it is hard to tell what the future may hold for Palin’s unexpected national candidacy — the travails of the Palin family probably seem awfully familiar to many average Americans. It is this averageness that makes her such a politically promising running mate for John McCain — and such a dangerous opponent for Democrats. Many voters will find it easy to identify with her family’s struggles — a significant advantage in an election where the voting calculus is so unusually and intensely personal.
(snip)
Unlike running mates from both parties, dating back decades, the Palin family isn’t part of the moneyed elite or the governing class. Neither wife nor husband is the scion of a well-connected family. Sarah Palin attended a state school, and her brushes with the law are of the same nettlesome kind that drive recreational fishermen crazy in all 50 states.
(snip)
Even the governor’s own Trooper-gate scandal, in which Palin is alleged to have exerted undue pressure to fire a state trooper, is suffused with an element that many families can identify with: one sister stepping in on behalf of another in an acrimonious dispute with a brother-in-law.
Powerful media organizations are beginning to pour resources into this story, so much more damaging twists and turns may await. But assuming the accusations don’t grow more serious, it is of a considerably different nature as an abuse of power than the last Trooper-gate scandal to rock the political world — the one in which Bill Clinton was alleged to use his state troopers in Arkansas to procure women as sex partners. That wouldn’t excuse Palin’s actions, of course, but it would frame them in such a way that could limit the political damage.
(snip)
With a pregnant teenage daughter and an infant with Down syndrome, the Palins, it seems, have been caught up in the same struggles of everyday life that confront many American families. And it poses a difficult challenge for Democrats because she will be juxtaposed against Biden, a United States senator with 35 years of experience.
Biden has his own compelling narrative; he commuted back to Wilmington, Del., daily for years to be with his young sons after his wife and infant daughter died in an automobile accident. But it is revealing that the first round of tough stories after his nomination explored conflicts of interest between Biden family members and one of the nation’s biggest asbestos litigation law firms. That’s a long way from fishing license violations.
I must say, the more I hear about Sarah Palin, the more she intrigues me. This pick makes me more comfortable with John McCain and his ability to win this race.

I realize that this is a conservative blog, but how can you keep up these naive headlines with a straight face.
Why not have Maggie Brooks run with John McCain. She has more executive experience that Palin in a political region with more people. And she was fired from her job as a television broadcaster, surely Americans will sympathize with someone who was fired in their lives.
All the Palin selection proves is that McCain is willing to bow to political pressure when making vastly important decisions. In an effort to woo female Dems, McCain chose the most politically transparent way to further that goal. This insult is doubled when you step back and understand that McCain is tacitly comparing Hillary to Sarah Palin, a comparison that will cause most Clintonites to puke in their mouthes.
But none of that should be most concerning for you Republicans. The worst part is Sarah Palin takes experience off the table. If Obama isn’t qualified, as many Republicans contend, then what is Sarah Palin? A political neophyte who was essentially Mayor of Brockport until 2 years ago. Obama not being experienced was certianly a line of argument the right could have played out for a long while, but now it can be easily defused with one name: Sarah Palin.
I know conservatives bristle when anyone brings it up, but lets face it folks, he’s a 72 year old cancer survivor and as unfortunate as it may be, we might have to rely on his Vice President to take the reigns of power of the most powerful country on earth. And to pick someone with not just “no experience” in the way you Republicans mean it, but honestly, no experience AT ALL, proves that John McCain is willing to put the the politics of image head of the politics of substance and responsibility.
And no Mr. McCain, that’s not change we can believe in.
Klem
Lets wait to hear from her at the convention tomorrow night. Is that asking too much?
The reason we get jazzed about the McCain age comments is because they are so unfair. Black people suffer a much higher rate of strokes and kidney diseases than white people do, almost double so should we consider the fact that Obama is black means he may have a stroke in office? Sounds pretty ridiculous doesn’t it. The democrats dusted Biden off pretty quick in the primaries, with good reason. I don’t want to see Biden be president anymore than you want to see Palin be president. Heck Delaware is a state with less people in it than Monroe County. Does that mean Bob Duffy is more qualified?
But yet we get ridiculous cavalier comments about McCain being older and dying in office and that the population of a state somehow mean something.
I like Maggie Brooks, but Maggie Brooks never stood down an Oil company.
The problem with all the nabobs that are criticizing Palin is you are comparing apples and oranges. The same comparisons can be made for Obama the community organizer. Biden is from a state that is almost as small as Alaska in population. But it has no where near the natural resources that need to be managed like Alaska, I agree with Tiberius, lets see what she has to say.
In three weeks either Palin will stand down all the namby pamby hypocrites and prove to be a great one or will fade in history. In football terms, McCain has gambled and thrown the long ball. Sometimes they get dropped and sometimes they get caught for spectacular results. Democrats fear that spectacular result and are doing their best to stop it, even if it takes a pass interference penalty.
Experience is a double edged sword. It re-asks the question: is Obama experienced enough? After all what experience level are they comparing her to? Obama is now saying he has more experience. Don’t you think the democrats would rather not have to make that claim?
