We Need Your Help — We Are Considering Adopting “Jackson’s Law”
We at monroerising.com need your help. We are considering adopting a policy of not allowing more than two comments per reader per post. The primary contributors are split on this proposal, named Jackson’s Law — because it is inspired by jacksonsmiles.
Some feel that all of his comments should be posted because they are so outrageous, while others feel that he frequently crosses the line and takes away from the site. We would like to solicit input from you, our loyal readers on this subject.
Please send me an e-mail at Cincinnatus@monroerising.com (or post a comment) and let me know what you think about this. This is not going to be a democratic decision — we will, however, take reader opinion into consideration before we make the final decision.

I don’t think you’ll ever prevent outrageous comments, even if you limit outrageous commenters to but two comments.
Probably the best way to police outrageous comments, however they are defined, is to appropriately moderate the “offending” comments–even if it means not printing the comment.
Comments by serious, thoughtful commenters, even if ithose comments should number more than 2 per posting, shouldn’t be curtailed as such comments can often materially add to the discussion. And I think that’s an important goal of monroerising.
If you wish, and if time permits, you could even tell the “offending” commenter to revise his comments and explain why. Outrageous is outrageous, and if s/he doesn’t understand that, then don’t allow the comment to be posted. You have that right. You warned him/her, and s/he persists, you don’t post it. You have to be in charge to ensure a quality product.
I think it’s fantastic. Although it is not a democratic decision… will you enforce the ruling across the board? Or will it be for just Jackson Smiles?
Readers of this blog already know my position. I have no issue with multiple comments. I would just like to see them spread out. When JS puts the first three comments up it dilutes other messages. I think he does it on purpose to keep as many people from reading anti Powers.
However we will only have to put up with him a few more weeks because once Powers loses to Davis I am sure the Powers Platoon member will retreat to obscurity
Wow, I cannot believe what I just read. What is this? Communist Russia? I hope you realize that Jacksonsmiles is in all likelihood the very reason many people visit and respond to many of your threads. I know I often come hear just to read the heated debates and name calling that goes on between the members of the right and Jacksonsmiles. I even tend to chime in myself when I feel the need, You enact this Jackson rule and I can guarantee your hits will go down, but at least you have the place to yourselves again. Just saying.
I would leave it go. His/her comments are often outrageously entertaining (sort of like staring at a car wreck). I surmise that Jacksonsmiles is often guilty of posting while intoxicated.
Ah let him post. I disagree with him a lot, but one thing I always rage about around here is how my comments never get on the lefty boards. We don’t want to be like them, after all one thing I agreed with jesses post about was:
** You think censorship is absolutely wrong; except when it’s applied to conservatives on college campuses or on talk radio via the fairness doctrine.
JS post as much as you want just take a deep breath sometimes. We may disagree with you but we don’t hate you.
I am starting to think goatmc, JacksonSmiles and TheExdemocrat are all the same person, with alter egos. They often post at the same time. Notice on this post the all posted at 3:49 hmmm..
Let Jackson post I kind of like the curmudgeon. But do you think you can take a shorter name. JacksonSmiles is a handful to type
Let him post all he wants. Personally, I think jacksonsmiles is secretly working for the Jack Davis campaign. Who in their right mind would defend the type of bad things Jon Powers has done and continues to do. If, after the primary, jackie comes clean, I’d admit this was one of the most brilliant dirty tricks tactics the democrats have used in a while.
Cinci,
I say let him keep goin. However, perhaps Jacksonnosense, you could connect your thoughts a bit better and insted of stringing out your comments you could just go ahead and post your thoughts all at once. I really get a kick out of reading your comments.
What I’ve always enjoyed about this blog is that people come forth with educated and well thought comments. Plus unlike the other crazy local blog, the moderator actually allows liberal readers to defend/debate on their beliefs.
So, I’m splitting my vote. I want multiple comments so long as one or more readers are engaging in a back and forth. We must also be mindful that other libs may want to dilute the content by posting multiple consecutive comments. So, we need to keep it the way it is. I can only think of a few specific instances where Jacksons repeated comments were too much.
vic- does that mean you and tiberius are the same person… you’re close to the same time… hmmm….
Hey JS,
No not related, never met the man. (assuming he is a man Vic could be short for Victoria)
I must say this was a hot post. I never thought you were so much loved around here.
For grins why don’t you comment one more time. That would violate Jacksons Law and make it as meaningless as global warming.
As annoying as it is, don’t change the rules.
I ignore most of JS comments, and I don’t care if JS is working on or against a campaign,he/she is still entitled to an opinion, no matter how poorly (crudely) expressed….. My suggestion would be …. if two “posters” are going back and forth in a heated exchange … and it becomes a distraction from the original blog, they can take it offline. What do you think Mr. Cinncinatus?
Tiberius - we do see eye to eye once in a while…
so this one’s just for you!
Third times the charm
While I haven’t posted in a while (life sometimes takes more time than I have, leaving little time for blogs), I wanted to chime in on this one. I would prefer to not see a limit on the number of posts, but I would be up for a merging of sequential comments by a single poster. Or, a method of editing posts that you own… which I suspect would be used in preference to multi-posts where it available. Even if it’s the ability to tack on to, or delete your own posts, that would be preferable.
Just my 3 cents.
