Assuming the truth of what you said, woody14619, if such private schools cost less on average and provide greater parent and student satisfaction, then private schools are a win. What public schools should be doing is becoming more productive by creating schools for <a href="http://www.myshortpencil.com/schooltalk/cgi-bin/show.cgi?tpc=2&post=6026#POST6026" rel="nofollow">The

I find lots of fault finding here, but no suggestions for solutions. What would you do (besides the generic "privatizing" of education) to help this situation?

If schools are privatized, how do you regulate the schools to make sure they're teaching the kids appropriately? Do you know how those numbers break down (national ranking) for public schooled vs private schooled? If there was good evidence that private schooling did better, I'd say go for it. But the last reports I saw were that they were both almost the exact same for private vs public school when it came to grades and SAT scores.

Perfectly summarized. But, you're right, the legislators will most likely do nothing about it, and the apathetic electorate will continue to whine but do nothing to force their hand. Back to square one. Very frustrating, indeed! What will it take?
