Palin stunts and reverses Obama’s short lived bump

John McCain may be old but he is proving to be wise. His pick of Sara Palin caught everyone off guard and completely obliterated an Obama bounce. All everyone in talking about is Sara Palin.

Pollster John Zogby has McCain up 47% to 45% just hours after the Gallup rolling average had Obama with a decent bounce. Problem is that it was a dead cat bounce. The Zogby Poll was a flash poll taken completely after Obama’s Acceptance speech and the Palin Announcement.

New York - Republican John McCain’s surprise announcement Friday of Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin as his running mate - some 16 hours after Democrat Barack Obama’s historic speech accepting his party’s presidential nomination - has possibly stunted any Obama convention bump, the latest Zogby Interactive flash poll of the race shows.

Dennis Rasmussen has his daily tracking poll at Obama 47% McCain 43%. Showing Obama’s dead cat bounce just about erased. This week the republicans have their convention and we will see what happens there with a bounce for McCain.

Sarah Palin Viewed More Favorably Than The Guy With All Of The Experience — Joe Biden

Rasmussen Reports did a phone survey and Sarah Palin is viewed favorably by 53% of the country, compared to 43% who have a favorable impression of Joe Biden.

After her debut in Dayton and a rush of media coverage, a new Rasmussen Reports telephone survey finds that 53% now have a favorable opinion of Palin while just 26% offer a less flattering assessment.

Palin earns positive reviews from 78% of Republicans, 26% of Democratsand 63% of unaffiliated voters. Obviously, these numbers will be subject to change as voters learn more about her in the coming weeks. Among all voters, 29% have a Very Favorable opinion of Palin while 9% hold a Very Unfavorable view.

By way of comparison, on the day he was selected as Barack Obama’s running mate, Delaware Senator Joseph Biden was viewed favorably by 43% of voters.

(snip)

In the new survey, 35% of voters say the selection of Palin makes them more likely to vote for McCain while 33% say they are less likely to do so. Most Republicanssay they are more likely to vote for Palin and most Democrats say the opposite. As for voters not affiliated with either major party, 37% are more likely to vote for McCain and 28% less likely to do so. Those numbers are a bit more positive than initial reaction to Biden.

I think this was a wise move for McCain.  I’m actually looking forward to watching the Republican Convention now!

Important Reminder From Local Obama Campaign — Just Because You’re A Felon Doesn’t Mean You Can’t Vote!

Channel 13 did a story on the local Obama campaign registering voters and (could it be?) singing religious songs Thursday when Obama gave his speech last week.  At about the 1:30 minute mark, an Obama volunteer implores everyone to register and gives and important reminder that even if you’re a convicted felon you can vote.  Only being incarcerated or in a supervised probation program would prohibit you from being able to vote!

I Glad I Don’t Have To Vote In The Democrat Primary For 26th CD

The gloves are off in the final days of the Democrat Primary for NY 26 Congressional race.  Here are Jack Davis’ and Jon Powers’ hard hitting commercials. The sad part is that both look fair and accurate to me.

To top it off City Newspaper had this to say about the third candidate Alice Kryzan:

A troubling aspect of Kryzan’s background is that, early in her career, she represented Occidental Chemical in litigation brought by Love Canal residents. She ultimately helped settle the lawsuit.

Here are the commercials:

McCain Shows His Class — Congratulates Obama

I have to admit that John McCain wasn’t my first choice as the Republican candidate, but after his pick for VP (Sarah Palin) and the following commercial that ran last night, he is showing his class and why he is the right man for the Republican Party at the right time.

Take a look at the following.  67 days to go and I’m feeling better every day!

Wow — Sarah Palin, What A Great Pick!

I just finished watching Sarah Palin’s speech at the rally with John McCain.  What a stroke of brilliance.  She provides the perfect contrast to the Democrats.

She has a record of achievement.  She has reformed government.  She will appeal to reasonable woman who are upset that Hillary got the shaft.  She is a family person.  Having a 4 month old with Downs Syndrome, 5 kids, one serving his country in the Army — how do you not respect this woman?  The more people get to know her the more they will like her. And she’s had two more years executive experience than the Democratic ticket combined.

And I get the sense that she would be proud to be an American even if she wasn’t the pick!

McCain Picks Alaska Governor Sarah Palin for VP

If people really want change, John McCain has given it to them.  He has picked Alaska Governor Sara Palin to be his choice for VP:

In choosing Ms. Palin — a 44-year-old conservative Christian and self-described “hockey mom” who has been governor for less than two years — the McCain campaign reached far outside the Washington Beltway in an election in which the Democratic nominee, Senator Barack Obama, is running on a platform of change.

Ms. Palin, a former mayor of the small town of Wasilla and beauty pageant queen, first rose to prominence as a whistle-blower uncovering ethical misconduct in state government.

(snip)

Moreover, the choice of Ms. Palin is in stark contrast to the recent selection of the Democratic vice presidential nominee Senator Joseph R. Biden Jr. of Delaware, a veteran lawmaker who is chairman of Foreign Relations Committee.

But Ms. Palin ran as a change agent when she was elected as governor of Alaska in 2006, and in a move that might have appealed to Mr. McCain, she took intense criticism from members of her own party for turning the spotlight on the failures of Alaska Republicans, some of whom had been beset by corruption scandals.

Great choice!

More Questionable Activity by David Gantt??

“That’s for me to know, and for you to find out.” Those were the words spoken by David Gantt to Rachel Barnhardt when she questioned him about why he would sponsor a bill he doesn’t support.

Well, it seems like the Dean of the Rochester Delegation of Corrupt Assembly Democrats has given us another thing to “find out”. You all remember the last time Assemblyman Gantt broke the law.

Well, a reader sent me an e-mail pointing me to a local newspaper called The Minority Reporter. In at least their last few issues, Assemblyman Gantt and Councilwoman Lovely Warren, have run an ad about the importance of registering to vote. You can see the ad here (Just scroll down to bottom of page).

The ad reads: THE UPCOMING ELECTION IS VERY IMPORTANT. PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU ARE REGISTERED TO VOTE. IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO HELP WITH VOTER REGISTRATION CALL DAVID GANTT’S OFFICE AT 454-3670.

Sounds pretty benign and frankly good politicking. But, wait… check out that number. That’s David’s Assembly Office phone number! I’m no attorney, but it is highly questionable to run a Voter Registration Drive out of a government office.

Telling people how to contact your office if they want to register to vote is one thing. Soliciting volunteers to engage in political activities through a government office is quite another.

Democrats Nervous about “Celebrity-Like” Speech Tonight

As tonight’s acceptance speechfor the Democratic nomination draws closer, Senior Democratic officials are expressing serious concerns about the political risks posed by Barack Obama’s acceptance speech at Invesco Field.

Between the setting of an 80,000 seat stadium, and the “Ancient Greece” pillars which we set the background for tonight’s speech, many democrats just do not feel a move like this will help target the “middle American” audience which Obama needs for this election.

“We already know he is a rock star, we already know he can bring 85,000 people together in a stadium. He has done it multiple times. He needs to talk to people who haven’t made up their minds yet,” said Tennessee Gov. Phil Bredesen.

This is also a key opportunity for the GOP to reaffirm the idea that Obama is an “elitist, and Celebrity” candidate.

The McCain campaign Wednesday released a memo mockingly titled, “Proper Attire for the Temple of Obama (The Barackopolis),” a reference to the classical stage design in place for his speech.

“It’s only appropriate that Barack Obama would descend down from the heavens and spend a little time with us mere mortals when accepting the Democratic nomination,” said Republican National Committee spokesman Danny Diaz

Barack Obama stands on his stage.

Yesterday’s D&C Story On the 26th CD — What A Joke!

I must admit, I got excited yesterday when I saw the story on the front page of the D&C on Chris Lee and the 26th CD.  That was until I actually read the article.

With the Democratic Primary less than two weeks away, we have commented on how bad their coverage has been.  At least 150,000 people in Monroe County live in that district, but if you want to know what’s going on, you have to read the Buffalo News.

Jack Davis (or that Davis Kid as Congresswoman Slaughter has been overheard calling him) makes a comment about how we are on the verge of a civil war because of all the Mexicans living in this country and no one in Monroe County knows about it.  Jon Powers was arrested your years ago for an obscenity laden tirade against a police officer and there are all kinds of questions about the centerpiece of his experience, his resume building War Kids Relief that provided him with more money than the Iraqi children Jon was so concerned about and you didn’t read about any of these things in the D&C.

But the professional team over at the D&C were able to cover the non-story of Chris Lee’s father selling the family business.  From the D&C:

The company Lee helped manage and his father founded was sold for $395 million less than a year after the buyer, an international conglomerate, pleaded guilty to two felony charges related to sensitive defense technology that had been sent to China, Britain, Singapore and Japan. The conglomerate, ITT, also paid $100 million in fines.

The Lee campaign maintains that International Motion Control, an engineering and technology company founded by Patrick Lee, was sold to a division of ITT that was separate from ITT’s defense operations, which incurred the charges and fines.

And that low life John Gerkin, he’s the guy who took money from Jack Davis 2 years ago and trashes him all the time — well now he’s taking money from Jon Powers — can’t buy his loyalty or services, look at what he had to  say:

“As a combat veteran, Jon Powers is deeply troubled by anyone who profited from a company that gave our national security secrets to the Chinese,” said John Gerken, Powers’ campaign manager.

What about the people your boy duped out of all that money — how do you feel about them?  All that money for some soccer balls and backbacks — I know Jon needed to make a living but come on!

Republican Chairman Bill Reilich summed it all up very nicely:

Monroe County Republican Chairman Bill Reilich said if this is the worst Lee’s political enemies could come up with, he feels good about Lee’s chances in November.

“This to me is the biggest story of nothing I’ve ever seen,” Reilich said.

Welcome to political life Mr. Lee.  That story was non-sense and a geat example of how bad Rochester’s daily newspaper is on reporting information.  If your interested in social networking they are the place to go to though.

He’s to hoping that Jill Tereri and the D&C go back to sleep and ignore this race again.  We’ll do our best to pick up the slack!
