Independence Party Considered Contacting The District Attorney About Colon’s Payment

I wonder if anyone at the Democrat and Chronicle is embarrassed?  They should be.  Here is a link to the story they had about the resignation of Independence Party Chairman Rafael Colon.  The Buffalo News had a much better story on the subject.  Here’s some of it:

The chairman of the Monroe County Independence Party has resigned after his wife accepted $5,000 in what party officials call “bribe money” from the campaign of Democratic congressional candidate Jack Davis.

Rafael Colon, a Rochester resident who works in a Batavia factory, quit his local and state positions after Monroe County Independence Party officials confronted him over the payment, according to Walter Schiemann, interim chairman.

“It’s all about what we call the bribe money from Jack Davis,” Schiemann said. “I’m not going to let this party fall into hands like that.”

(snip)

“It’s too much of a mess out there,“ Orsini said last month, referring to the three-way Democratic race. “We don’t know who is going to win the Democratic primary.”

Schiemann, however, said Monday that he has no intention of collaborating with Orsini to replace Fumerelle. That could allow Fumerelle to draw votes away from the Democratic or Republican candidates and diminish the importance the third line on the ballot was expected to hold in this year’s congressional election. I Wonder If Bob Lonsberry Picked Up On RICHard Dollinger’s Nazi Innuendo?

Friends, while hosting Bob Lonsberry’s show on Friday, RICHard Dollinger made a proclamation in his opening statement about how he was leaving Bob a gift. The gift he left was a red Barack Hussein Obama for President hat. I’ll quote/paraphrase what he said after announcing what the gift was:

“I know I’m in the Eagle’s Nest, but Bob, if you’re listening, I know you’re on the other side of this issue, but I think Obama will be the next President of the United States of America…I wanted to leave this gift as a thank you for letting me host and I know that you may not want the hat but I’m sure you’ll be able to think of a creative way to do something with this hat.”

What does Dollinger mean by “The Eagle’s Nest?” Since Rick is an educated man, I’m sure he knows this, however some of you may not. The “Eagle’s Nest” is also known as Kehlsteinhaus. The Eagle’s Nest was a place built for Hitler as a 50th birthday present by his colleagues in the Third Reich. It was meant to serve as a place to entertain visiting diplomats during his terrible reign. It was termed the Eagle’s Nest due to the fact that it was built on the top of a mountain and was home to the “Eagle” (Hitler). It’s predominantly featured in one of the episodes of the HBO miniseries “Band of Brothers.” More information can be found at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kehlsteinhaus,  http://www.kehlsteinhaus.de/en/index.php, http://www.letsgo-europe.com/Germany/eagles_nest/.

It is sad how some toss around the “You’re a Nazi!” attack at any and every disagreement you have with them.  Even our site has been accused of Hitler-esque activities by the radical liberals who disagree with the way we moderate comments in order to protect readers from aggressive and indecent language or how our viewpoint of current events and area politics isn’t lockstep with that of our radical liberal colleagues.

To hear RICHard Dollinger himself compare Bob Lonsberry’s desk as a nest for Fascist views, while claiming Lonsberry is a personal friend, is amazing.  I don’t agree with a lot of what Bob Lonsberry says, but Dollinger is going way over the edge here to attack the guy who let him host his radio program for the day. I wonder if Lonsberry picked up on the swipe at his character from his friend RICHard.

With friends like RICHard Dollinger…

An Interesting Website!

I looked at the Drudge Report this morning and saw an ad for “The Real Jon Powers.”  I took a look and it went to this website.

It looks just like Powers’ official campaign website except it points out a number of issues on which Powers has flip flopped.  If you look closely at the fine print, the site is paid for by Jack Davis’ campaign.

One thing caught me eye: they promise an upcoming piece on “The Real Story on War Kids Relief.”  We’ll keep you posted on this.

BREAKING NEWS — Independence Party Chairman Asked To Resign

The Democrat and Chronicle just reported this:

The Independence Party of Monroe County has asked for the resignation of Rafael Colon from his chairman’s post and he has agreed, interim chairman Walter Schiemann said today.

The executive committee of the county party asked for the resignation of Colon and his wife, Blanca, after reports surfaced that Jack Davis, a Democratic congressional candidate in the 26th District, paid Blanca Colon $5,000 in consulting fees.

The goal of the payments was to help build relationships with Independence Party members, said Davis’ campaign manager, Luke Vaughn.

The party has not endorsed Davis.

Colon will also be asked tonight to sign a statement that bars him from being a member of the Independence Party’s state executive committee forever. Colon has resigned his post on the state committee as well, Schiemann said.

A new party chairman will be elected after the primary.

Bloomberg To Back Senate Republicans?

Liz Benjamin of the Daily News is reporting that NYC Mayor Michael Bloomberg will be getting involved in the battle for the state Senate.

The fight for control of the state Senate could morph into a battle of the billionaires.

Aides to Mayor Bloomberg have quietly discussed the possibility that he will launch an independent spending spree to help the Republicans maintain their majority this fall, a high-level Senate Republican confirmed.

That could come in the form of a political committee that would have no spending limits - but wouldn’t legally be able to coordinate with candidates.

(snip)

Although he’s now an independent, Bloomberg has made it clear he supports the two-party system, and believes maintaining a balance of power in Albany is important.

Finally, a billionaire who gets it!

Take A Look At Mustardstreet — More Of What We’ve Come To Expect!

With all due respect to our team here at monroerising.com, mustardstreet.blogspot.com has some of the best post I’ve ever seen.

Their last two posts are a must read. Here’s the link.   My favorite is the new design for Democratic Headquarters and the latest one about leftist media are classics.  I know Philbrick and Miss Lucy subscribe to the motto of quality over quantity but we find ourselves checking out their site regularly looking for new post.

Keep up the great work folks!

Mexico Gives Kennedy its Highest Honor

Mexico has given Sen. Ted Kennedy its highest honor for his work in protecting the rights of immigrants while in the Senate.  Kennedy was presented with the “Aztec Eagle.”

“He has denounced injustices suffered by immigrants,” and “promoted initiatives to promote full political participation and increased access to health and education services for the Mexican-American community,” the official announcement said.

The veteran Massachusetts senator fought for an immigration reform bill in Congress that failed to pass last year.

Kennedy has been a vocal critic of Republican President George W. Bush and actively campaigned for Barack Obama in his bid to become the Democratic nominee in the November presidential election.

Protecting the right of immigrants?  I think they should reword that by saying assisting illegal aliens who should not be here by law.  I do have to give credit to the media on this one.  They have done such a great job of painting the picture of Kennedy being a great leader and representative of this country, that people are actually believing it and giving him awards.

Congress protecting us from loud commercials…seriously

Eshoo is looking out for youCalifornia Democratic Representative Anna Eshoo has introduced legislation to regulate the loudness of TV commercials. The bill, which I promise you is real, is called the Commercial Advertisement Loudness Mitigation Act, or CALM. Read more about it here.

This is the kind of thing where you expect Ashton Kutcher to run onto the house floor in his mesh trucker hat, jumping around and wildly hugging all of the representatives who have been sitting there with their mouths agape since Eshoo introduced this bill and declaring into the CSPAN cameras that we have all been Punk’d. However, that would be too much like reality; this is the United States House of Representatives. I would delve into the ridulousness of this legislation, like the practical impossibility of regulating something like this or the possibility of maybe spending congressional energy on real issues, but it all kind of makes me feel like I’m arguing with my two-year-old.

Next up from Eshoo, watch for bills that will:

  • Make pickle jars easier to open
  • Keep shoelaces from fraying
  • Stop your shower from instantly getting extremely hot or cold when you barely touch the controls
  • Make it a misdemeanor to leave the toilet seat up

Go ahead and leave some comments with more ideas to legislate away all of the minor annoyances in American life. I bet yours won’t be as ridiculous as the real thing.

20 Years Later And Paul Haney’s Still Lying To The Public!

I have a confession.  I’m really confused by the back and forth over the medicaid intercept.  I think I understand the Republican position — they enacted the intercept because of the belief that medicaid cost will increase by more than the amount of growth the county would received in sales tax money.

Monroe County’s sales tax growth for the past 10 years is one of the lowest in the state.  Maggie Brooks’ and the Republican majority’s decision makes sense.  The Democrat and Chronicle had an article yesterday that confused most readers.  I’m not being critical of the D&C (this time only) — the topic is very complex.

What I found absolutely fascinating was the following:

Republicans attacked Legislator Paul Haney, D-Rochester, who is the Democratic caucus’ chief fiscal expert, saying his financial expertise cannot be trusted.

(snip)

Haney, a former budget director under County Executive Tom Frey, could not be reached to comment.

“Instead of smearing another legislator, they should be admitting the intercept is costing taxpayers money,” said Minority Leader Harry Bronson, D-Rochester.

What?! Now I know why there’s such confusion.  Haney is the Democrats’ chief fiscal expert?  This is quite an admission on the part of Democrats and an indication of the sorry state of their caucus.

As Taxin’ Tom Frey’s budget director, Haney was a part of the team that raised property taxes by almost 35% and still left taxpayers holding the bag with a $40 million budget deficit that they intentionally “cooked the books” to hide that deficit from the public — 180% difference from the way Brooks has handled the current crisis. This is what prompted Majority Leader Dan Quatro to say:

“He’s either inept or he’s being disingenuous,” said Majority Leader Dan Quatro, R-Webster.

I’d vote for disingenuous. The current crisis is being caused by the same factors that led to Haney’s hidden deficit –structural problems in the county budget, namely medicaid cost growth outpacing the growth in county revenue.

And now the Democrats are relying on him as their “chief fiscal expert”?  I’d trust Steven Eckel’s, Glenn Gamble’s, or Calvin Lee’s numbers before I trust Paul Haney’s calculations.  Geesh, Carrie Andrews or Ted O’Brien could probably do a better job “crunching the numbers.”

I’d love to see someone in the Democratic caucus admit they appointed Haney their fiscal expert.  Harry Bronson should be admitting that the Democrats in the County Legislature are in pretty rough shape and their data and research can’t be trusted.

Democrat Politicians not paying gas tax at DNC convention in Denver.

Democrats in Congress did not act on Sen. John McCain’s proposal for a summer gas tax holiday, however that hasn’t stopped the Democratic National Convention from getting tax-free gas courtesy of the citizens of Denver, reports the Denver Post

Since March, staffers working on the Democratic National Convention have been using the city of Denver’s Municipal (for police and fire use) tax-free gas pumps to fill up their cars - and using its car washes.

(snip)

Councilwoman Jeanne Faatz reacted sharply.

She said she didn’t think it was fair that local host-committee employees, as well as those with the Democratic National Convention Committee (DNCC) who use those cars, are driving around on tax-free fuel.

“It didn’t sit well,” she said. “I pay taxes on my fuel when I fill up my own car.”

(snip)

Denver Mayor John Hickenlooper told council members that Minneapolis had a similar deal with the Republicans.

That isn’t true, said Teresa McFarland, spokeswoman for the local host committee for the Republican National Convention.

“We pay for fuel like everyone else does,” she said.

Later in the day, the camp of GOP presidential hopeful John McCain issued a statement saying that Sen. Barack Obama, the presumptive Democratic nominee, was “for a gas-tax holiday — as long as it benefits him and his political party.”

It is against the Colorado Department of Revenue’s rules for any nonprofit, private business or government contractor to receive tax-free fuel, which is reserved for local and state governments.

These are the same people who said a gas tax holiday for the summer would not help the little people.

Can you see Nancy Pelosi saying “Let them eat cake”?
