New York Times Calls For David Gantt’s Removal As Chair Of Assembly Transportation Committee

Does it get any worse than this for a liberal Democrat — the New York Times — the bastion of liberalism calling for your removal?  Well, our old friend Assemblyman was the subject of just such an editorial in yesterday’s paper.

Here’s part of that editorial:

Mr. Gantt is a Democratic assemblyman from Rochester. That’s the Rochester that is 333 miles from Times Square. He has long controlled the State Assembly’s Transportation Committee with an iron fist, micromanaging New York City’s traffic from afar and for bewildering reasons. At one point this year, when journalists asked him why he was blocking a particular city traffic bill, he said: “That’s for me to know and you to find out.” So much for transparency in Albany.

(snip)

It makes no sense for one upstate legislator to strangle progress — and safety — in New York City. This should be a matter decided by New York’s mayor and City Council. Since it is not, Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver and his Democratic majority should replace committee chairmen like Mr. Gantt who have clearly been there too long. If he won’t, the voters should.

The Times actually take it easy on Gantt.  They fail to mention their previous piece on lobbyist Robert Gaddy’s role in Gantt’s apparent partial change of heart. Here’s another piece they had on the subject.

We’ve written before about the outrageous lack of coverage on this subject by the Democrat and Chronicle. Also their lack of outrage over Gantt’s comments about shooting some damn body.  Take a look at the Youtube piece here.

Maybe I’m all wrong, but I believe Gantt is the only local politician who could get away with this and not be taken to task by Jim Lawrence and the crew at the Democrat and Chronicle.  Clearly, they are holding Gantt to a different standard than everyone else.  I an idea as to why this is the case but I better keep it to myself.

  1. I notice they repeated his now famous response to reporters when asked about it:

“That’s for me to know and you to find out.”

  2. It’s about time. We at Monroerising said it first that Gantt is nothing but an albatross to this community and to Dem Chairman Joe Morelle.

Morelle needs to do something about Gantt soon, or he’ll be to blame for allowing Gantt to ruin our and other’s communities.
