Our readers are great.  We received an e-mail from an avid reader (maybe a future author?) regarding Jon Powers’ hypocrisy on free trade.

In another glaring example of his failure of leadership, Jon Powers has abandoned the people of Western New York for the money of Washington, D.C.

According to Powers’ own website:

Too often, our government has made trade deals that benefit the large multinational corporations at the expense of the American family. It has also become clear that many trade deals have failed to live up to their promise of new jobs. According to a recent independent study NAFTA has displaced over a million American jobs. It is time for a leader to step forward and lead by example.

One day after unceremoniously attacking his opponents, Powers is flying to Washington to partake in a lobbyist driven fundraiser with Speaker Nancy Pelosi, who voted in favor of the North American Free Trade Agreement. (Source — Congressional Record, 11/03/1993)

It seems Jon Powers is continually failing his ‘leadership by example’ motto week after week.  One week he’s illegally paying his rent out of his campaign account, another week he is taking thousands of dollars from an ethically challenged Congressman, and now he is going to a fundraiser headlined by the NAFTA-supporting Speaker, Nancy Pelosi.

Again it’s another case of Jon Powers saying one thing in Western New York and doing another in Washington.  Western New Yorkers demand more, and they deserve better.

We couldn’t have said it better ourself.  Thanks and keep those ideas coming!
