Rick Dollinger Insulted my Intelligence Today

New Senate Majority Leader Dean Skelos visited the area today, and democratic senate candidate Rick Dollinger had some strong words to impart:

 Dean Skelos, the newly elected majority leader of the Senate, is a product of the GOP machine that nearly bankrupted Nassau County, and as Senator he has voted for billions of dollars in increased spending, unfunded mandates which drive up our property taxes, and, with his Republican colleagues, has failed to help the upstate economy. We don’t need his Nassau-style politics here; what we need is a new Senate majority that will actually do something about our out-of-control property taxes and the sky rocketing cost of doing business in New York.

Yes.  When we think about out-of-control property taxes and the business climate in Western New York, we yearn for the leadership of Senate Minority Leader Malcolm Smith. (If the democrats take control of the Senate, he becomes the Majority Leader).  He seems like just the guy to turn the ship around.

Or perhaps not.  A sample of the legislation that Senator Smith has introduced this session gives me little confidence.  In fact, just a cursory review of his legislation demonstrates that he is a typical downstate, big city, liberal democrat.  He has introduced the following:

  • a bill to create a temporary state commission on the use of excessive force by law enforcement (S.4388);
  • a bill to create a system of public financing of state elections (S.4434);
  • a bill that appropriates $15 Million dollars to create “Street Law Programs” that “aim  to  provide  students  with  a  greater understanding  of  and  sensitivity  toward  the legal problems of urban residents, people of color, gays, lesbians, bi-sexual person,  transgender persons, young people, and schools.” (S.8003).

In fact, the only bill I could find that would have anything to do with Western New York is S.7205, which creates the University at Buffalo Institute for African American Studies.

Do not insult my intelligence and pretend that a democratic majority is going to bring this area unbridled prosperity.  If it ever happens, this area is going to be in big trouble.

But maybe I am being too pessimistic.  Perhaps upstate will thrive when the state is controlled by a Manhattan trial lawyer, a liberal from Queens, and a liberal from Harlem.  Rick Dollinger sure seems to think so.

  1. What do we know about RICHard Dollinger so far:

    1. He abandoned his constituents by quitting the Senate in 2002.

    2. He’s made it clear that he’d rather be a judge than a Senator.

    3. He relates to voters by flipping hotdogs in a suit while quoting Shakespeare.

    4. He supports flooding our mailboxes with illegal campaign mailers that misrepresent the truth (also called lying).

    5. He supports making people angry with aggressive robo-calls disrupting people’s family time just to spread lies about his opponent.

    6. If true, he’ll take a million dollars in pure campaign cash, going back on his support of Clean Money, Clean Elections. Who knew calling him RICHard was so appropriate?

    7. He has no grassroots, community support.

    8. He like to send out attacking press releases instead of letting the people know what he’ll do for us.

    9. He likes to announce that he’s running, over and over and over again.

    I’m sure the list will get longer as the campaign moves forward.

  2. Occam — I almost wish we accepted advertising revenue so we could pay you to do this full time.
    Great post — God Bless America!

  3. Mr Pea:
    Your comments are right on — you do however fail to point out that he ran for judge 4 times and ran for Democratic Party Chair so he could change his mind and quit 4 weeks into his term.
    Also, I have many friends who were reared in Brighton and they all barbaque in suits and quote Shakespeare — “To run and what to run for — that really is the question!”
