Golisano is a Wildman
Earlier this week, Cincy reportedthat billionaire Tom Golisano will be supporting a number of democratic candidates for the Senate. That could be bad for republican Senators like Joe Robach and Jim Alesi. Moreover, that could bad for all of us because it could enable the democrats could take over the Senate.
Doesn’t Golisano have more important things to do? Like maybe signing key members of his Buffalo Sabres hockey club to long term deals?
That news made me so mad that I drove out to Buffalo and hit (Buffalo Sabres star goalie) Ryan Miller in the face repeatedly with a copy of the New York State Tax Law. As I walked away, he gasped, “Who are you?”
“Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver,” I replied.
Not really.
But it is an entertaining way to set up this bit of news: According to the New York Sun, Golisano ”is considering bankrolling an effort to topple Mr. Silver, the longest-serving Democratic speaker in state history.”
That would be money well spent. My only concern would be that some downstate liberal democrat would happily take Silver place as speaker, and we would be no farther ahead. Of course, things couldn’t get much worse in the Assembly, so more power to Mr. Golisano on that front.
Unfortunately, it seems more likely that Mr. Golisano’s money could tip the Senate in favor of the democrats than that his efforts could help take down Shelly Silver. I guess we will all have to wait and see what comes of the news conference next week.
