FOLLOW UP: Maybe This Is Why David Gantt Opposes Joe Robach’s Lead Poisoning Bill
Monroerising recently reported that David Gantt refused to consider supporting a better bill submitted by State Senator Joe Robach to combat lead poisoning, found mainly in older homes located with the City of Rochester. As you know, lead poisoning is a major cause of many medical conditions affecting children who grow up in these homes. I don’t have numbers, but I believe it has also been reported that this is a big problem in rental properties.
We still believe Assemblyman Gantt was helping his buddies Dave Nachbar and RICHard Dollinger by preventing this legislation from becoming law just so Nachbar and Dollinger could hold a press conference attacking Senators Jim Alesi and Joe Robach. Pretty shameful, but it’s David Gantt, Nachbar and Dollinger we’re talking about here, so there’s no real surprise.
Upon further investigation, we “shockingly” now believe Assemblyman David Gantt may have a selfish reason for opposing anti lead poisoning legislation from becoming law.
Here’s a section of the bill:
Section 7. Adds section 1378 to the public health law to authorize the
department to establish regulations for inspections for conditions
conducive to lead poisoning or lead based paint hazards.
This section affects landlords, or “slumlords” as some (not all) are referred to as. As part of an approved law, landlords will have to undertake remedial action to correct known lead poisoning hazards for these properties. Aside from any grants made available, landlords will still have to pay expenses out of their own pockets to ensure that the families living in their homes remain safe.
How does this affect Assemblyman David Gantt you might ask? Well, a quick review of City of Rochester internet files may explain why David might not be supporting his own or Joe Robach’s bill. Here’s just a portion:
Owner Name Address
1. GANTT DAVID F 310 FIRST ST
2. GANTT DAVID F 489 - 493 CENTRAL PK
3. GANTT DAVID F 241 LYNDHURST ST
4. GANTT DAVID F 237 LYNDHURST ST
5. GANTT DAVID F 275 - 277 LYNDHURST ST
6. GANTT DAVID F 251 - 255 LYNDHURST ST
7. GANTT DAVID F 250 LYNDHURST ST
8. GANTT DAVID F/GROSS ANDREW 271 - 273 LYNDHURST ST
David Gannt is a landlord for almost an entire street of homes and then some. Abiding by the regulations of an anti lead poisoning law could prove very costly to Mr. Gantt the landlord.
We’d love to ask Assemblyman Gantt if this is really why he won’t let this legislation become law, but we know what his response would be.
Typical Assemblyman David Gantt arrogance.

This is shameful! I own property in the city. Two years ago I saw this coming. I generally paint every 3 years. It is one of the things that keeps my property values up and as a result I am able to get better rent and better more happy tenants. When I painted last year I had to have a lead abatement company come in to insure the removal of lead paint. It added an extra $3K to painting costs. Even if I wasn’t an assembly member who has the ability to create laws in my favor, I would have done it. Its the right thing and the health of my tenants are good for them and my long term business.
Gantt should be ashamed of himself!
This is no surprise- take a peak at the assessments on those properties, as well. Please keep in mind…the bigger they are… the harder they fall…..
