So Much for Loyalty…
Friends, it’s not often I take pot-shots at Republican members of Congress because they’re inevitably an endangered species, according to the national news media, but Senator Gordon Smith of Oregon needs to be taken behind the woodshed. I do it, because as a fair site here at monroerising.com, we’re not against criticizing a member of any party.
According to the AP and Newsday, Smith who is up for re-election this year, has put out a campaign televison ad in which he uses a quote from Cook County, Illinois Senator and Democratic Presidential nomminee Barack Hussien Obama that states:
“Gordon Smith led the fight for better gas mileage and a cleaner environment.”
Members of Obama’s staff have stated that the good Senator from Chicago never said that. Instead the Obama campaign repsonded that the Illinois senator appreciated that Smith’s “record of bipartisan achievement is respected by his Democratic and Republican colleagues.”
Smith is one of the few remaining GOP members of Congress, and the only Republican Senator in the Northwest and is looking to survival in an increasingly poachable state for the Democrats/Liberal/Progressive/Socialists. With that being said there is still no excuse for using the poster child for American socialism in a Republican campaign ad. Especially when Obama has already stated he’s supporting Smith’s opponent, the former Speaker of the Oregon House.
An independant pollster out of Portland stated that, with these ads, “Smith runs the risk of alienating GOP voters, but that he apparently has concluded the greater risk is to be seen as a steadfast conservative.” The reason I question Smith’s loyalty is that he has already endorsed John McCain.
I realize that he’s trying to keep his job for another six years, but there is no excuse for his actions. My father always told me that “you dance with the girl who brung ya,” Barack Hussien Obama didn’t help Smith win his election six years ago, his state and national party did. Its about time Senator Smith dance with the party that brought him to relevance.

What do you expect he is running in the peoples republic of Oregon? They have communist bands opening for obama. Smith has long been a Republican in name only (RINO). He has never been helpful in any conservative legislation, and usually criticizes the President. Ignore him, let him do what he needs to do to keep another republican in the senate. Focus on some of the local people who effect our area.
