Say It Ain’t So Joe — Majority Leader Bruno Announces Retirement
It really shouldn’t come as a surprise, but upstate New York’s best friend over the past few years, Senate Majority leader Joe Bruno announced he will not seek re-election this year, ending a 32 year career in elected office.
Here’s Senator Bruno’s statement:
“Today I met with my Republican colleagues in the Senate and informed them that I will not be running for re-election this November.”
“After 32 years in office, I have decided that it is time to move on with my life and to give my constituents an opportunity for new representation and my colleagues in the Senate who have supported me an opportunity for new leadership.”
“Public service has been a blessing for which I will be ever grateful. I have had the opportunity to work for and with hundreds of proud, distinguished New Yorkers. I have viewed my work not as a job but as a privilege to come here day in and day out and stand up for the people of Rensselaer and Saratoga counties and stand up for hardworking people I have come to know through the years.”
“Politics is a tough ball game. Tougher now than it has ever been. But after 32 years of many successes and a few failures, I know now more than ever, and I can say that with comfort and confidence, there is no calling greater than that of public service. There have been few more rewarding experiences in my life. But, timing in life is everything. While there may never be a good time to make these kinds of life decisions, I have decided that it is time for me to move on with my life.”
“I do so with a heavy heart, but an optimistic soul, and I will rest peaceful in the knowledge that so many great things lie ahead for the great state that I have had the honor and privilege to serve.”
If you want to see something funny, take a look at what the liberals have to say about Bruno’s retirement. Stlo7 has one of the dumbest lines I’ve ever seen on Bruno’s retirement and shows that anyone using their site for the analysis should be very careful:
My sources also tell me that Bruno’s staff have quietly moved on to other activities and have been replaced by folks tied to Guiliani.
What? That’s right, in the last hours of session all of Bruno’s people have left and Guiliani’s people are involves in final negotiations. Wow. That’s so ignorant that its scary. People should really be careful believing what they read over there!
Anyways, back to Joe Bruno. He’s done a lot for upstate and I’m going to miss him. I hope when Dean Skelos is elected Majority Leader (not Rudy Guiliani) he shares Bruno’s vision for the importance of upstate.

I read on the Radical Liberal site that they were mad that the Bruno story didn’t get better coverage compared to stories the NY Times wrote on ending violence in Zimbabwe, senior citizens that have dimentia, environmental concerns and education.
I thought Radical Liberals were very concerned about all of these issues?
Apparently, they’re not. Don’t tell me that Radical Liberals only use these causes when they are seeking political gains?
Naaawwwwww. They’re sincere in their efforts, right?
Friends, this is truly an end or an era in Albany. I think its important that Senator Bruno be applauded for his 32 years of public service as a member of New York’s upper house. Whether you agree or disagree with him and/or his policies, truly all members of the political spectrum can agree that he always had the people of New York State in his heart. I appreciate his devotion to Upstate and hopefully his sucessor will have the same focus for the continued survival of Monroe County and the rest of Western New York.
