“Hollywood” Jon Powers Misses Local Event. Was He Rubbing Elbows With LA Big Money Types?
I’ve never heard of the Willow Ridge Civic Association, they are located in the Buffalo area. I imagine they are decent, hard working people — some probably struggling to make ends meet. Elections are probably pretty important to them.
That’s why they planned a town hall meeting with Democratic Congressional Candidate Jon Powers, (you remember him –the former substitute teacher who uses campaign donations to pay his rent, takes money from men who exploit women, hasn’t done any mail yet, and likes to hand out Buffalo Bills schedules at veterans’ ceremonies, and oh, yea, did I mention his charity that appears to be little more than a resume builder for his congressional run?) months in advance and Jon Jon blew them off.
Here’s the transcript from the town hall:
Town Hall Host: “A couple months ago we had the idea of…to invite
political candidates to our meetings and um, and I said I’m pretty
sure Jon Powers would be willing to come to our meeting. So we gave
him two months notice and we said, ’save the date’…and we were told
Jon was gonna be here.”So where was Jon Powers?
Town Hall Host: “We just found out late last week that Jon couldn’t be
here because he’s in Los Angeles.”
Powers couldn’t meet with potential constituents because he needed to go to Los Angles? What!
Los Angeles is 2,544 miles from the Ellicott Creek Fire Company where the town hall was held. So what was Powers’ excuse? Well he wasn’t able to offer one personally, but in another example of Powers’ lack of leadership, he has his campaign manager make up an excuse.
Jon Gerken, Powers’ campaign manager on why Powers missed a town hall in Western New York: “I’m sorry that Jon couldn’t be here he had some last minute business that he got called out of town for.
Why would someone running in western New York have to go to Los Angeles? On business? If it was about that charity he created I’m sure his campaign would have announced it.
Powers claims to have the needed “hometown support.” The problem is Powers’ claim doesn’t match the facts: He’s raised 13 times more money from California, Massachusetts, New York City, Virginia and Washington, D.C. than from Western New York.
In fact he’s raised more money from California than Western New York.
I don’t know if Powers blew off meeting with a civic association so he could rub elbows with the Hollywood elites, but this looks really bad?
I hate to say it, but its usually true …..follow the money!

I’ll wait to see if the people protecting Jon Powers from mean ‘ol average voters like us respond as to what he was doing in California instead of listening to people in the district.
I’m reserving judgement for now, but it seems pretty obvious what’s going on here.
It seems like a Democratic theme this year. You can not criticize a Democrat even if is factual. Doesn’t matter whether its Powers or Obama or someone running for county clerk.
If this is true, Powers is finished. It shows that he is a true believer and practitioner in political double speak. Tell the voters that you care about them, but focus your efforts on taking money from special interests that you will be beholden to if you’re elected.
IP, I never thought he would gain much traction in the primary race anyway. Davis will outspend him in the primaries and make Powers use up all of his war-chest on fending off Konst, Kryzan and Davis. Meanwhile, Lee will simply be cashing his checks and building his support while the four amigos stay in the sandbox and kick sand in each other’s eyes.
Let Jon Powers go to Hollywood. Better than him going to Washington. He can stay and have some more drinks with the producers he loves so much.

One thing we are in agreement on is that Jon Powers is WRONG for the 26th CD. He is all about the show and the dough and this latest move proves it. Skipping a local community event to hobnob with the richies was a very bad move that will bite him in the butt come November.
Jon can keep the endorsements by the political party leaders and the Hollywood elite. Kathy Konst cares more about the support of the people! The voters matter more to Kathy. I don’t think those in Hollywood or the party bosses are having trouble making ends meet like the rest of us are.
The choice is clear. Kathy Konst for Congress!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
