Assemblyman David Gantt’s Latest “Undermining of the Democratic Process” Featured In NY Times Blog

I’m not sure what we, the writers at monroerising.com, are going to do when the legislative session in Albany winds down next week. Our old pal David Gantt has given us plenty to write about and we expect this to taper off once the session is over.

The latest Gantt flare-up was featured in the June 19, 2008 NY Times reporter’s blog. Assemblyman David F. Gantt, a Rochester Democrat, has been flexing his political muscle — but his unusual behavior has attracted attention recently from reporters around the state.

This morning, The Times reported on Mr. Gantt’s move to stop a proposal by the Bloomberg administration aimed at keeping cars out of special lanes that will be reserved for a new class of high-speed buses.

Mr. Gantt is the chairman of the Assembly’s Transportation Committee, and his opposition led six of the bill’s sponsors, all fellow Democrats, to vote with him not to advance the bill out of his committee.

The Bloomberg administration was enraged, saying Mr. Gantt’s approach “undermines the Democratic process.”

Robert Scott Gaddy, Gantt’s favorite lobbyist must have a client opposed to Mayor Bloomberg’s proposal.

Gantt also gave the Times another great, typical quote that ranks right up there with “that’s for me to know and you to find out,”:

Asked if he had influenced other sponsors of the New York City bill to vote against it, he told The Times, “What do you think, I go around breaking people’s arms?”

It’s too bad Jim Lawrence and his faithful lackey Tommy T, haven’t been able to bring themselves to criticize their self appointed hero from the Public Defender fiasco on his conduct in Albany. Again, you wouldn’t know it from reading the Democrat and Chronicle, (you would from reading the Buffalo News, The New York Daily News, Newsday, The New York Post and now the New York Times) but Gantt is becoming the poster child across New York State for the dysfunction of Albany and how the pay to play culture is not serving the citizens of New York State.

Nice jobs D&C — I really enjoy you social networking stuff. How else would I know how my neighbor’s softball team is doing? Keep up the good work!

  1. David Gantt epitomizes typical Democrat arrogance. Especially the arrogance that permeates the Democrat-controlled Assembly. Remember, this is what we get if the democrats take over everything. If they’ll act like this owning 2 outta 3, immagine what it’ll be like if they take control of it all.

I can’t believe Gantt actually said this:

He actually admits that he introduced the bill as a political favor to his crony friend.

This response in the NY Times blog by a Rochesterian sums the entire issue up nicely:

Nice job Lucy. Maybe someday Rochesterians who oppose David Gantt and Democrat political corruption will have a chance to respond to it in our local newspaper… maybe someday.

  2. I liked how on theNYT blog someone how dosen’t want the majority of Rochesterians to be forgottenlinks back to this fine website and its story on David Gantt’s corruption.

  3. Assemblyman David Gantt’s political corruption will help ensure that Senators Jim Alesi and Joe Robach get re-elected this year.

I can’t believe he wasn’t smart enough to coverup his corrupt activities until after the election. That, or he’s so darn arrogant that he doesn’t even care to hide it.

    Either way, thanks Dave!
