Remembrance of D-Day

On this day we remember the Greatest Generation some who sacrificed all in the name of Liberty and Freedom. On this day June 6, 1944 was D-Day many Brave Americans invaded the beaches of Normandy France. President Franklin Roosevelt offered a prayer, in it he said:

For these men are lately drawn from the ways of peace. They fight not for the lust of conquest. They fight to end conquest. They fight to liberate. They fight to let justice arise, and tolerance and goodwill among all Thy people. They yearn but for the end of battle, for their return to the haven of home.

These people’s lives were much different than those living today. Many did not have cars, there were no government education or health programs. The New Deal had yet sunk in. Most people considered a good job one that kept a roof over their head and their families fed. Yet they were willing to go off and sacrifice their lives, for something that they considered more valuable than life itself, that was the American way. Freedom and Liberty meant something to people who knew the tyranny of Adolph Hitler. Hitler was a ruthless person who murdered and enslaved many groups of people from Jew’s to Gypsies to Homosexuals. The Great Generation knew he must be stopped if they wanted to preserve America for future generations. This generation needs to learn that history lesson.

  1. Nice Post Tiberius, Like it that you help us remember such a great achievement by Americans.

I think every American needs to take a moment and appreciate what these brave people did. On D-Day we lost 2500 G.I.’s and 2600 paratroopers. More on that one day than we have lost in Iraq. The Canadians and British took heavy losses as well. President Roosevelt was a great leader. You never heard anyone in Congress or Senate declaring the war lost or playing politics with it and demanding we retreat.

Today we face an evil just as terrible in the face of an enemy who wishes to destroy us just as Hitler desired. You never heard Roosevelt saying he wanted to talk with Hitler. He wanted to defeat him.

  2. May God Bless the families of our brave soldiers, and May God Bless America.
