This Guy Opposes Gay Marriage And He Needs To Go!

I know this is risky because someone is going to say that I hate GLBTs (which for the record, I don’t.  I can’t believe I have to say that, but just watch the accusations fly), but this really is just me pointing out a statement about Governor Paterson’s decision to have state government recognize same-sex marriage that was NOT made by a member of the republican party.  You see, local Democrat/Liberal/Progressives have been saying that all republicans need to be thrown out of elected office because they all don’t support gay marriage.

OK, but what are you gonna do with this guy?  Check the funny little capital letter listed after his name.

“I am very disappointed with Governor Paterson’s decision to recognize same sex marriages from other states. I believe that Governor Paterson has joined many judges from throughout the nation that have taken the position to legislate against the will of the people. New York State legislators have not approved homosexual marriages and I believe that it will never happen as long as the Republican Party controls the majority in the New York State Senate. Furthermore, even if we Democrats get to the majority next year, I will not vote for it based on my religion and beliefs.”

-Sen. Rev. Ruben Diaz, D-Bronx

I’ll bet you thought it was an evil, right wing, religious right, neocon.  So, will the Democrat/Liberal/Progressives be working to unseat Mr. Diaz because he vehemently opposes gay marriage?

Absolutely not and everyone knows it.  Because the party of the hypocrites will never oppose someone with a “D” after their name, even if they refuse to bow to their will.  Even if they break the law.  Even if they get sweetheart plea deals that you and I don’t.  Even if they give jobs out to the daughters of financial contributors.  Even if they don’t file campaign finance reports on time.  Even if they send out illegal political attack mailers.  Even if they commit 3 felony crimes.  Even if they demean the deaths of innocent shooting victims.  Even if they only pander to women and minorities.  Even if they insult fallen war heroes.

And now… even if they oppose gay marriage.

Although I, too, should be allowed the benefits of free speech, I feel that I am forced to add the following:

Disclaimer:  Please note that in this post I have not taken any stance in opposition or support of gay/lesbian or heterosexual marriage.  My sole intent is to point out the continued hypocrisy of the Democrat/Liberal/Progressive party which threatens to remove all elected officials who do not agree with their stance on this topic and many others…

Unless that person is a Democrat.

Then that person gets a pass.

  1. IP,

    I understand what you are saying. I personally will not initiate another post that has anything to do with sex oriented politics. Earlier comments that were made on this blog were distorted by commenter’s then the comments were associated with me.

    As long as the people decide this issue I am alright with it. What I think is wrong is when it is decided by a court of a few and then implemented by executive order. (so under 10 people decided this law) This is how Liberals have gotten many issues into law (i.e. abortion) and then it creates decades of divisive social and political issues. Put it on the ballot, if the people of New York vote yes, then that is the will of the people and it will be accepted.

  2. The gay marriage issue will look just as silly in 50 years as the interracial one looks to most people now. In 10 years, it will pass, in 20 it will be common place, in 30 it will be as accepted as interracial marriage is now. (So the south will still have pockets where there will still be issues…)

    That said:

    @IP:
    Good article. And I don’t think you’re anti-marriage or anti-gay.

    I do think you’re under a false assumption though that all democrats are liberal. They’re not. There are conservative democrats (like Diaz) and liberal republicans (like Lieberman ;). Diaz is in a region thats highly conservative, and was on the conservative ticket when being elected. If he were in my region, I’d vote against him, but sadly he’s not.

    Really, it depends on district and the lean more than on party. Just as all republicans aren’t hard-core conservatives that want to make government small enough to drown in the tub, not all democrats are liberals that want to abolish guns and allow people to marry household pets. Life isn’t that simple, why would you assume politics is?

    @tiberius:
    Courts are also how “liberals” got laws that allow unions to form, women to vote, and interracial marriage allowed. Do you think the Lovings would have been able to pass a reform ballot in their county to allow their marriage? Do you think any of those rights would exist today if individual counties or states were allowed to vote on if it were allowed?

    Democracy isn’t majority-rule, that called anarchy. Majority rule is essentially “might makes right”, which is rule by mob mentality. Democracy is about fairness, equality, and freedom for all. Reality is most of the things you enjoy today (fair wages, consumer safety standards, 40-hour work weeks) all came from “liberal” judges, leveling what the factory bosses though were unfair restraints against their industry.

    It’s easy to claim things you don’t like are being implemented by “left leaning liberal judges”. But take a second and look at some of the things done, and you’ll see it is a pretty balanced system. If abortion were that big of an issue, there would be such an uprising that law makers would have to make an amendment to override the court. (Think it can’t happen? Look at prohibition… It happened then.)

  3. Actually Woody, I only think the Liberal/Progressive/Democrat/Activists (I forgot activists before) are liberal. I’m pretty sure Diaz is not conservative though. I think he says it’s because of his religion and beliefs that he opposes gay marriage.

    And Sheldon Silver may have flip flopped, but I think he was opposed to gay marriage also. He wouldn’t come out and say it, but he always avoided the topic. And he’s the biggest crazy liberal of them all!

    My point is that, in this instance, Liberal/Progressive/Democrat/Activists are being complete hypocrites. They’ll fight against all who oppose this very important issue, except other Democrats.

    Republican kinda do it, but they’re more apt to cut their own loose.

    Look at NOW and NARAL, they are the biggest hypocrites out there right now. I just thought the LGBT movement was above the BS, but you gotta admit that you’re really not (you meaning collectively). Few are though, on both sides.
