DNC to Florida and Michigan: “You only count half as much as the other 48 states and some Territories that can’t vote in the general election”

Friends, I was bored yesterday afternoon so I decided to turn on MSNBC (my favorite 24 hour news station) and to my surprise I saw the Democratic National Committee’s Rules Committee deciding on the future of their presidential primary. What I saw and heard made me nauseous.

The compromise that was made was to count half of Michigan’s and Florida’s votes that occurred in the illegally moved primaries. Then based upon the half votes totals. Half the numbers of delegates were designated to respective candidates. Hil received 69 delegates in Michigan and 105 in Florida, while Obama received 59 from Michigan and 67 in Florida.

But wait, hold the phone…Barack Hussein Obama wasn’t even on the ballot in Michigan. That means not a single democratic voter in Michigan could have cast a vote for the Senator from Cook County. The man wasn’t on the ballot and yet he still receives 10 less than the woman who won 55% percent of the state while the next highest challenger on the ballot there was crazy ole Dennis Kucinich at 3.65%. If Obama wanted to Michigan vote he should have put his name on the ballot. But what do I know; I’m not a professional politician with years of experience in Democratic/Liberal/Progressive politics.

Then again, I’m also not a member of the Democratic party. Maybe they thought I wouldn’t mind that they are disenfranchising the voters of these 2 states by only counting ½ their vote. I’m almost positive its written somewhere that all people are created equal and the you can’t limit a person’s vote based on circumstance, like say the date of a vote. Hmm, the Democratic Party being anti-Democratic…who would’ve thunk it?

  1. Disenfranchized Hillary supporters are already pealing awat to support McCain. I don’t think it’s soley that they are angry that Clinton got screwed over, but more so that they know that Obama is so radical that he’ll lose the seat in 4 years IF he beats McCain… and that’s a BIG IF!

  2. I remember last time folks tried to compromise on how votes should be counted it resulted in a 3/5 compromise. For the party of progress this is shocking. Its really not fare for these voters that there not seen to mean as much as the rest of the country. Especially since they are two of the most volatile swing states in the general.

  3. So democrats in Florida and Michigan only count as one-half a voters at the convention.

Why am I not shocked at the inability of the national party to have handled this properly.

We have one democrat whose religious advisors practice hate and another who talks about her opponent being assasinated if he wins.

It’s almost as if the democrats are blowing the presidency on purpose.

  4. Uhmm..

Folks, the Republicans are doing the same thing. In fact, they’re doing it to Wyoming, New Hampshire, Michigan, Nevada, South Carolina, and Florida. They declared it before the primaries took place, as punishment for for holding elections early. The Democrats agreed on this solution of half a vote to bring thir party to a similar standard.

As for the number of delegates Obama got, that was based on the number of voters who voted “undeclared”. There was a large movement just before the primary (which you probably didn’t hear about, not being a Democrat) to vote undeclared to support Obama and/or Edwards, who had removed their names from the ballot as all democratic members except Kucinich had pledged to do before the election. Hillary, when asked why she hadn’t removed her name as pledged, said it was an oversight that she wasn’t removed. Only Kucinich kept his name on in protest, saying they should still be counted.

  5. This was probably written about the Democrats because they’re the ones whining and fighting about it. It’s a non issue for the Republicans.

Personally, I’ve loved the Obama/Clinton fight. They may have actually screwed up their primary campaign so bad that McCain takes it.

Trust me when I say that that never, ever, ever crossed my mind until these two started kicking the crap outta each other. It’s great.
