Someone Ought To Ask Dollinger And Nachbar About This

The New York Post had an interesting article this weekend concerning the possible consequences of a Democratic takeover of the state Senate. According to Fred Dicker:

Top Democratic and Republican strategists told The Post that a Democratic Senate victory would, in fact, trigger one of the fiercest political fights ever and produce a sustained period of even more than the usual Albany chaos.

The main reason is that after 44 years of being out of power, Senate Democrats don’t have the knowledge, skill or talent to be an effective majority. And many Democrats - including some close to Gov. Paterson - agree.

Senate Democrats are also so liberal and so disproportionately from New York City that some of Paterson’s aides fear a Democratic majority will refuse to join the governor in his effort to cut state spending, cap skyrocketing property taxes and improve the state’s harsh business climate.

Someone ought to ask the guy who wants to be a judge, and the guy who needs a job (Nachbar), why people in Monroe County should vote for them.

FOLLOW UP: Maybe This Is Why David Gantt Opposes Joe Robach’s Lead Poisoning Bill

Monroerising recently reported that David Gantt refused to consider supporting a better bill submitted by State Senator Joe Robach to combat lead poisoning, found mainly in older homes located with the City of Rochester.  As you know, lead poisoning is a major cause of many medical conditions affecting children who grow up in these homes.  I don’t have numbers, but I believe it has also been reported that this is a big problem in rental properties.

We still believe Assemblyman Gantt was helping his buddies Dave Nachbar and RICHard Dollinger by preventing this legislation from becoming law just so Nachbar and Dollinger could hold a press conference attacking Senators Jim Alesi and Joe Robach.  Pretty shameful, but it’s David Gantt, Nachbar and Dollinger we’re talking about here, so there’s no real surprise.

Upon further investigation, we “shockingly” now believe Assemblyman David Gantt may have a selfish reason for opposing anti lead poisoning legislation from becoming law. [Read more →]

MR Weekly Rant: Whoever Thinks Steve Minarik Is Going To Be The Interim MCC President…

…Is a complete and utter idiot.

We’re a little early with the Rant but this is so necessary.

First off, sorry for calling many of you liberal bloggers out there idiots, but for those of you saying this, you really are.

I can’t even come up with an eloquent way of explaining my point right now because this is so preposterous.

A number of Liberal Radical blogsites/blog posters out there living in crazy conspiracy theorist internet la la land are flooding the internet waves trying to convincedupe normal people into believing that County Executive Maggie Brooks requested Steve Minarik’s resignation as part of a political stunt, and has every intention of placing him in the role of interim president of Monroe Community College on Monday.  As if this could even, ever happen without anyone on the planet ever finding out about it! I Guess We All Know Maggie Brooks Is In Charge Now

Who would have believed it?  Maggie Brooks took the bull by the horns and asked Republican Party Chairman Steve Minarik to step down on Friday, sending shock waves through the local GOP.

What is even more shocking is the way it was done.  Very public. Very open.  Republicans typically don’t operate this way.  When someone is dismissed in Republican circles, the reason given most times is the ever popular “I plan on spending more time with my family.”

But not this time.  Maggie went out of her way to say this was her call — her decision — her’s alone.  Citing a need to have a party leadership that more reflects her style — citing a need to build bridges.

We at monroerising.com have a tremendous respect for Steve Minarik.  His 16 year record as party chairman is unbelievable.  Even Democratic Party Chariman Joe Morelle acknowledged that Minarik rebuilt the Republican Party.  Keeping it in power for almost 20 years is a feat not to be equaled anytime soon.

But, Steve Minarik certainly isn’t a “bridge builder.”  In the end this may be the best decision for all of those involved.  Times have definitely changed for Republicans.  The methods that Minarik used very well may not be the best in the new world order.  Brook’s decision lets Minarik goes out while the local party is on top and allows her to get a fresh start.  A chance to make the party over in her image.

Local Democrats may actually be motivated to focus on legislative issues.  Steve Minarik was always the boogeyman they focused on.  He personified ”a closed process” — and we all know how important processes are to Democrats.

It will be very interesting to see who Maggie Brooks picks as the new party chair.  Make no mistake — the next party chair will be her choice.  After 16 years of Minarik rule, it will be difficult for her to pick someone who is viewed solely as her person.  All of the party operatives and most of the elected officials of the party have deep ties to Minarik.

Republicans will face tremendous challenges in the times ahead.  This change, however painful, is necessary.  Hopefully it will help turn what has been a negative tide for the local GOP.

Hello, Hello Democrats, there is no oil there!

We keep hearing form the democrats that there are 68 million acres that the oil companies have leases for and should drill there before they get leases to more land.  Someone needs to tell the Democrats the problem is there is no oil there! The Wall Street Journal writes:

The majority of these unexploited acres are currently inaccessible by pipeline and much of the land has dubious production value. Nationally, only about a quarter of federal leased lands are being tapped for crude or natural gas.

Remember these are the same people led by Maxine Waters who want to socialize.. er Nationalize.. er … well just take control of your companies.  If these people run the oil companies it would be a disaster, get used to walking.

Chris Lee and Jack Davis At Barnard Parade — Jon Powers Is A No-Show

The Barnard Fire Department holds one of western New York’s biggest parades and carnivals.  They been doing it since the 1920’s.  Thousands of people lined Dewey Avenue Thursday night.  It’s interesting that Chris Lee and Jack Davis both found the time to meet and greet these voters — almost all of them live in the 26th CD.

Where was Jon Powers?  Was he in Hollywood? Aren’t the people at the Barnard Parade entitled to receive his Buffalo Bills schedules? (Maybe they were a special run for Memorial Day).

If you read some of the left wing, extremist blogs, you would think Jon Jon is the second coming — the guy we need in Congress to turn things around. Yet this guy couldn’t find the time to meet thousands of Greece voters.

This would be a little easier to understand if Powers had done mailings, but he hasn’t, or if he had been on TV, but he hasn’t done that yet either. Jack Davis even has his own campaign jingle — I didn’t hear it, but I’ve heard it’s very catchy.

Powers campaign appears to be in shambles.  Tom Reynolds’ withdrawal from the race really hurts his chances.  It’s pretty obvious that they planned on dumping on Reynolds and trying to tap into the anti-Republican climate.  Unfortunately for Jon Jon, Reynolds’ withdrawal has encouraged several more qualified Democrats to seek the nomination.  Not to mention Republican Chris Lee is a fresh face and will run strongly after the Democrats fight it out in September.

BREAKING — REPUBLICAN CHAIRMAN STEVE MINARIK RESIGNING TODAY!

Channel 13 is reporting Republican Chariman Steve Minarik is resiging today. According to WHAM-TV:

Monroe County GOP Chairman Steve Minarik

Monroe County GOP Chairman Steve Minarik

Monroe County Republican Committee Chairman Steve Minarik is resigning today.

Minarik has been the local GOP chairman since 1991. He led a huge period of growth for the party, during which the party took control of the Monroe County executive’s office, legislature, and most suburban towns and town boards.

We will have more later.

MR Weekly Rant: David Gantt Chooses Politics Over Preventing Lead Poisoning

I couldn’t find Joseph Spector’s article in the online version of the D&C McPaper, so I can’t link to it, but a day or two ago Spector wrote a story on how a lead poisoning bill that passed the State Senate didn’t pass the Democrat controlled State Assembly.  The Senate Bill was sponsored by Senator Joe Robach and the Assembly’s version was sponsored by David Gantt.

Spector’s article pointed out that David Gantt opposed the Senate version.  When reading the story Gantt was pretty aggressive in refusing to even consider Robach’s bill.  He claimed he wasn’t going to play politics (cue hysterical laughter!).

But the article pointed out that a major difference between the bills that would help rid our city neighborhoods of lead poisoning was that Gantt’s wasn’t going to be effective until January 2009.

Robach’s was effective immediately.

Call me crazy, but isn’t now better than later when it comes to helping to prevent children from getting sick? [Read more →]

What Else Has Shelly Swept Under The Rug?

Friends, according to a story in the New York Daily News,  in 2001, a staffer of an Upstate Assembly member accused one of Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver’s top aides of rape.

Elizabeth Crothers, 32, brought up an internal Assembly complaint shortly after the accused rape took place by then-Silver counsel Michael Boxley.  She and her Assembly boss met with Silver himself, and he took the meeting so seriously he ate pretzels while they spoke.  Crothers allowed her complaint to be in place for 15 days, and an Assembly investigation was inconclusive.  Because it was his top aide, Silver released statements in Boxley’s defense.  Apparently then Boxley and Crothers declared the matter closed and she did not file a criminal complaint.

But wait, “several years” later, another legislative aide accused Boxley of rape.  This time it resulted in Boxley being led out of his Capitol office in handcuffs.  He was charged with felony rape, which was pleaded down to a misdemeanor sexual assault.  He also lost his law license.

After the events, Crothers then moved to California and became a political consultant…until now.  She has now since begun working for Paul Newell, a New York City Democrat who is one of three Democrats looking for the nomination in the 64th Assembly district, currently held by one Sheldon Silver.  That’s right, Silver aggravated her so much that Crothers, a Republican, is working for a New York City Democrat.  To this day she still believes Silver swept her accusations under the rug in an effort to protect himself and the Assembly.

Silver says:

“I was wrong about Michael Boxley, and as a father and a grandfather, I have tremendous anguish about what Elizabeth Crothers went through. I am deeply dedicated to ensuring that every woman in this state feels safe, and have devoted much of my career to protecting the rights of victims of sexual abuse, strengthening laws against rape and sexual violence, and providing resources for the treatment of survivors.”

Silver says he’s dedicated to every women in the state feeling safe.  Where was that concern in 2001 when Crothers accused Boxley of rape?  Too bad cronyism got in the way of justice (allegedly).
