Congress Needs To Sue Themselves
Last week Congress passed a bill that would allow the United States to sue OPEC for disrupting the supply of oil.
“This bill guarantees that oil prices will reflect supply and demand economic rules, instead of wildly speculative and perhaps illegal activities,” said Democratic Rep. Steve Kagen of Wisconsin, who sponsored the legislation.
The bill specifically states that it is illegal:
(1) to limit the production or distribution of oil, natural gas, or any other petroleum product;
(2) to set or maintain the price of oil, natural gas, or any petroleum product; or
(3) to otherwise take any action in restraint of trade for oil, natural gas, or any petroleum product;
Democrats in Congress, the exact same people sponsoring this bill, just last week voted to continue an effective moratorium on US oil shale development. No country is doing less to develop oil reserves than the US.
If this bill passes the Senate with the veto proof majority that it did in Congress, I think the oil companies or some corporation who has been hurt by high energy costs can sue the United States using this bill on the grounds that we are not “guarantying that oil prices will reflect supply and demand economic rules”. The Congress is limiting the production or distribution of oil, natural gas, and any other petroleum product, by not allowing drilling in ANWAR or off the shores of New Jersey, Florida or California. This is all while the Chinese are drilling in international waters just off the coast of Florida and the Canadians are Drilling just their side of the border of ANWAR.

This is exactly why I started coming here to your site. We don’t get information like this from the liberal press. We would never hear about something like this in our local or mainstream media.
Keep up the good work.
I also have a question. You people have run stories about:
1. Democrat County Legislator Dick Beebe not reporting his campaign contributions and expenses when he was supposed to
2. Democrat Congressional candidate Jon Powers claiming to run a non-profit for Iraqi kids that doesn’t appear to exist
3. Democrats buying government jobs for their kids
4. Democrat City Council member John Lightfoot getting a slap on the wrist for felony DWI
5. Democrat Assemblyman Sheldon Silver letting a union member fudge the cost impacts their legislation will have on taxpayers
6. Another Democrat Assemblyman who appears to be breaking campaign finance laws
7. Democrat Assemblyman David Gantt getting his charges dropped because he helped get the judge elected
8. The fact that the school districts lied and never had to raise our taxes because of the fair plan.
9. State Democrats refusing to cut taxes, and
10. Our Democrat Governor eliminating the job of the person who’s supposed to help the Upstate economy
I was wondering. Has the media followed up on any of this newsworthy information?
Or is there truly a double standard in this area. You know, one set of rules for Republicans and one set of rules for Democrats?
there is aboslutley a double standard. when i found this site, i couldnt believe how much is not reported in the d and c and on the news. im thankful at least someone is reporting liberal/progressive screwups. i read enough about the gop elsewhere
Thanks for the comments TallLady and lmjp54. Television news around here isn’t that bad. They are all pretty fair when it comes to reporting the good and bad from both sides of the aisle.
As far as the D&C, Messenger Post and City Newspaper goes, forget it. City is most likely written by Monroe County Democrat committee staff. Messenger Post used to be fair, but they changed to about 80-20 favoring the Democrats.
The D&C is more like 90-10 favoring Democrats, which is pretty sad for the areas largest, but dwidling, print media. You’ll see stories that they’ll say are fair, but they blantantly slant favoring Democrats.
Read some political stories. If a Democrat is attacking a republican, the democrat gets 100% billing. If a republican goes after a democrat, the papers will find 2 or 3 democrat supporters to over balance or provide political covverage.
Seriously, read some stories for yourself and you’ll see exactly what I’m talking about. It will scare you how they don’t even try to hide it.
A number of our readers and contributors tried getting things submitted in the paper, but they would either say they didn’t have the room and would put it in months later when the “hot topic” was no longer hot or they wouldn’t print it at all.
Write a letter attacking the president or supporting Louise Slaughter for some goofy thing she did and it’ll get in within 2 days. Attack Louise or praise Bush and watch how long it takes. It’s hysterical.
That’s kinda why we satrted this site. Out of frustration that the D&C had finally stopped even trying to give the appearance that they were fair.
Thank you for your great comments.
lmjp54: No to all. The media hasn’t followed up on anything we’ve sent them. Remember, they only follow up on Democrat requests.
