Governor Paterson Has A New Press Aide

Gentle Reader:

It seems as though our good Governor, David Paterson has a new press aide.  According to Liz Benjamin of the Daily News:

Marissa Shorenstein, daughter of big-time Democratic donors Stuart and Janice Shorenstein, has been hired as Gov. David Paterson’s new deputy communications director- a move that has rankled some insiders in a big way, DN Capitol Bureau Chief Ken Lovett reports.

One source close to Paterson said Shorenstein’s parents have been lobbying the governor for weeks to hire their daughter and deemed the administration’s decision to comply with their wishes “the grossest example of politics of (pay to) play to come into the chamber.”

It has added insult to injury that Shorenstein was not only hired, but also given a senior position in an already-established press shop headed by Paterson Communications Director Risa Heller, a veteran of US Sen. Chuck Schumer’s media operation, whose last job was with the Spitzer/Paterson consulting firm, Global Strategy Group.

This, with Occam’s post on Denny Ferrell yesterday, will make it harder for Democrats to use reform as their mantra.

  1. Democrat corruption and political favors in NY State government. The Dems don’t even control the entire state and look at their arrogance!

These positions for the Governor pay up to $175,000 a year. She looks like she’s in her 20’s.

My question to the public is: How are YOU doing compared to the young daughter of a political campaign contributer to?

  2. Is this what the Democrat and Chronicle is talking about when they call for reform in state government?

If we had the fictitious “Clean Elections” in place, would the Shorenstein’s still have been able to buy this job for their daughter?

  3. I’m in my 40’s and my wife and I combined make around $80,000.

That is just sickening that this person who looks less than thirty years old will make that much money, paid for by us, because her parents give campaign contributions to the Governor.

I read constantly about this clean money and elections stuff and this just provesthat it’s just a bunch of bull.

Why do they give of taxpayers so little credit for being more intelligent than that?

  4. Her job before this was being a spokesman…sorry, spokeswoman, for the New York Jets and she’s also a Harvard grad.
I wish my parents would’ve been able to bribe a influential poltician into giving me a job, but hey I’ll take what I’ve got.
