Democrat Elected Official Dodges Felony DWI Conviction. Was Councilman Lightfoot Given Special Treatment?

I don’t wish him ill, but this is ridiculous.  Democrat elected City Councilman John Lightfoot got caught (’got caught’ is the key here) for the third time and charged with Felony DWI, pretty serious.  He blew twice the legal limit and he’s a pretty big guy.  Here’s the D&C story.  This time he slammed into another vehicle, injuring the other driver.  However, Lightfoot was allowed to plea down from felony DWI to misdemeanor drunken driving, even though he has committed his third DWI offense.

And it is ridiculous to see the reporter search diligently to help find some stat from the office that gave Lightfoot the deal that “helps prove” that it wasn’t special treatment.  Are you kidding?  What did you expect the Democrat District Attorney’s staff to say?  “Oh ya, we gave him special treatment because he’s a fellow Democrat.”  C’mon guys.  Really?  On the other hand, the District Attorney’s office says they allow 100-110 felony drunk drivers to plea down to misdemeanors each year?  Maximum 1 year in jail and an up to $1000 fine (if I’m remembering correctly).  Are you people serious?

And for his third DWI, which is now a mandatory felony charge, along with a crash that injured and very well could have killed the other person, Democrat Councilman Lightfoot’s severe punishment is this:

Lightfoot will be required to participate in eight additional weekends of outpatient treatment, meet with a panel of family members and others affected by drunken drivers, do two work weekend programs with the jail and stay alcohol-free for three years while on probation.

Poor Mr. “felony level DWI Democrat politician who crashed into another car and injured the driver because he was plowed outta his mind” Lightfoot.  Treatment, meet with people, two work weekends and don’t drink for 3 years.   And the media considers this case closed.  What?

This continued “protect Democrats at all costs” reporting is really getting so darn frustrating.  Did anyone think to interview MADD or SADD to see what THEY think about plea these deals for our local Democrat elected officials?  Ummm, nope.  Remember Democrat Assemblywoman Susan John’s break she was given?  Does the regular public REALLY get these nice cushy breaks?  Oh heck no.

All the Democrat’s need to do is say, “I have learned from my mistake and this will help me be a better elected official.” and the media grants them their personal blessing through half-assed reporting.

For goodness sake.  Just set Mr. Lightfoot free and don’t give him any punishment at all.  At least then I could respect you people for not treating us sheep like we’re a bunch of idiots.

  1. This is a travesty of justice. Lightfoot needs to resign. He can come back once he gets his life in order, but allowing him to get away with this just enables the behavior.

At what point will he be held accountable for his actions?

  2. Hey, was anyone aware that Mike Green’s brother was arrested for Felony DWI in Greece a couple of years before Mike became DA. I believe he received a similar plea deal anyone work in the Courts, who could find out more about this?

  3. Sounds like you may have it pretty covered from what you apparently know already, if that’s true dbl. I personally don’t know if it is or if it’s not.

I don’t know and probably won’t ask around or look much into it.

I’m not gonna screw with the D.A. or his family. And don’t expect the media to help you out at all. Even if you provide them with 90% of the work already.

They simply ignore it if it pertains to Democrats (who, again for the record, we don’t hate).

Besides, we try to stay away from the many rumors that people share with us that are personal or can’t be verified.

I don’t mind reading them, but don’t expect me to place them up folks. Sorry.

  4. You know what’s most alarming about this plea bargain is that if they’ve done this for 100-110 other three-time drunk drivers, there’s possibly, at least, 300-330 drunk driving incidents where justice is not being served. And I’m willing to bet that of these hundred plus plea bargain recipients, some have more than three offenses on their record. This is staggering to me also, Lightfoot could have, under the misdemeanor charge received 355 days in prison and then his fine, but yet he did not.
