Decemberists Really Do Start Their Concerts With Soviet Anthem — Look For Yourself!

Hats off to Sherman for his post on the “Obama Rally” in Portland. I’d never heard of the Decemberists until Sherman’s post. We’ve received a few comments on the post that linked to a Youtube video of them playing the Soviet national anthem at their concerts. Sit back and enjoy the show.

I really hope this is the way it’s gonna be all summer/fall. I can’t think of anything that matters less than the Decemberists. The revolution which these guys are referencing wasn’t even the communist rebellion, it was a rebellion against a rigid, self-centered, absolute monarchy. Nothing anti-American there.
And this whole anthem thing, I always thought it was a great piece of music and it was unfortunate that it was tied to that terrible nation.
Basically who cares. They are a bunch of hippies who are popular in the area and…I’m gonna go on a limb here…not going to influence Obama’s stances whatsoever.
Careful on that limb, Klem. Its a week one that will break.
What you have here is a pattern that is developing. It’s the pattern that questions Obama’s judgment. His judgment is what he is running on. He really has nothing else except platitudes such as “Change we can believe in” and “Yes we can”. His initial reason in running for president was that he had better judgment on the war because he opposed it while sitting in the Illinois state senate. Hillary had real facts in the US Senate an had to make a hard decision.
The problem with leftists and this kind of stuff is they don’t see the consequences of their beliefs. They don’t realize that lionizing Fidel Castro, Che Guevara or Karl Marx, is an issue. Traditional Americans don’t want to see our country move in the direction of socialism. Most Americans get in the voting booth and think they want a traditional President.
Democrats have a long tradition of ignoring things, thinking they don’t matter. Then they end up mattering and say it will never happen again. John Kerry ignored the Swift Boat vets for truth. Dukakis ignored Willie Horton, Gore was just a terrible campaigner who ignored the Clinton’s and the rules of the electoral college. in 2000 running for president and ignoring the Clinton’s was like running for pope and ignoring Jesus.
Please keep coming back and saying we are wrong. Every word you type in gets picked up by google and somewhere sites like this get another visit by someone who did not know Obama associates with communist rock groups, terrorists like William Ayers, and bigots like Jerimiah Wright. It builds up mass, then on November 5th people like Obama, Kerry and Gore say how did we lose?
Klem you sure are up on your nuanced understanding of the philosophical abstract use of a Soviet regime that was committed to the destruction of freedom and democracy.
Too bad you can’t understand an American President who is who is trying to protect us from real dictators like Saddam Hussein who gas their own people, throw their enemies in chipper shredders, and look to build nuclear weapons. Too bad you can’t understand an Iranian President who is building nuclear power plants for peaceful uses, while he funds Hammas and Hezbolah, and says that Israel should burn. How about a terrorist whose followers fly planes into our buildings? Oh I forgot Obama is going to sit down and have a little chat with these people and straighten them out. Maybe they can all listen to great music like the Decembrists together and divine the real meanings of life.
Maybe they were just tired when they started playing.
i just watched the video. if this band is not really into the whole communism thing, why play the entire 3.5 minute anthem instead of just a quick clip? it makes people (like some here and i’m sure others) think they support communism. that song is boring anyway. i fast forwarded it.
